NCT ID: NCT05982847 Recruiting - Hypertension Clinical Trials

National Blood Pressure Screening in Children to Improve Paediatric Healthcare in South Africa

Start date: April 1, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The Childhood Hypertension Consortium of South Africa (CHCSA) was established to foster relationships between the healthcare sector and schools through community engagement and outreach as well as contributing to the decolonization of normative paediatric blood pressure reference values. To date, there has been no nation-wide project in South Africa to determine nationally representative normal blood pressure reference values, nor to estimate the true prevalence of hypertension in the paediatric population of the country. This study will provide critical information on the understanding of blood pressure and hypertension in children, especially of African ancestry. Not only will this effort contribute to the development of the first nationally representative normal reference values of blood pressure but will also benefit healthcare providers in the sector with a clear guideline on the management of high blood pressure in children as developed by experts working with these challenges daily.

NCT ID: NCT05977348 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

Increasing Food Literacy in Preschoolers to Reduce Obesity Risk

Start date: October 3, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the effects of a nutrition education program on preschool children's food literacy and food acceptance, and to examine the added influence of a healthy eating curriculum and parent education on children's food knowledge and healthful food choices. The project will be evaluated with 450 children ages 3 to 5 years in center-based childcare programs serving predominantly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-eligible families in Pennsylvania. Outcomes for children who receive the added healthy eating curriculum will be compared to children in classrooms that only receive the nutrition education program.

NCT ID: NCT05950620 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

Bringing Weight Management Into the Primary Care Pediatric Practice

Start date: July 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This project aims to move what is currently a specialty-care model for the management of obesity of children and adolescents into the primary care setting.

NCT ID: NCT05858580 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

The Bennett Kids PowerUP Project

Start date: March 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study proposes a randomized pilot and feasibility study of a lifestyle modification program to promote healthy diet and activity in rural-dwelling children to reduce Type 2 Diabetes risks. Intervention participants will receive 6 months of programming to include: - 16 activity packs; - 9 health coach sessions; - unlimited access to a resource toolbox. Control participants will receive 6 activity packs promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning and 6 check-in calls to support retention.

NCT ID: NCT05847478 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

Effects of Auricular Acupressure Versus Intermittent Dietary Restriction in Children With Gastric Heat and Dampness Obstruction

Start date: June 7, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a three-month randomized controlled trial to investigate the effects of auricular acupressure versus Intermittent carbohydrate restriction on cardiometabolic risk in obese children with gastric heat and dampness obstruction.

NCT ID: NCT05783765 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

Food Genetics Behavior Study

FOODIE
Start date: July 17, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study examines the interplay between genotype and phenotype and assesses if energy balance behaviors in the context of the family environment, alone or in combination, can modify behavioral and genetic predispositions to childhood obesity. The research aims to prospectively evaluate the extent to which associations of a heightened drive to eat (HDE) on 1-year changes in weight and adiposity outcomes are independent or additive to those of a genetic risk for obesity among children. In addition, the study aims to prospectively examine risk-modifying energy balance behaviors in areas of diet, physical activity, and sleep that may mitigate the detrimental impact of a HDE or high genetic risk on weight and adiposity outcomes and test whether these factors differ for HDE versus a high genetic risk of obesity on those outcomes. Lastly, the research aims to examine the impact of family-level influences in areas of family functioning and parent feeding on risk-modifying energy balance behaviors in children.

NCT ID: NCT05780008 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

Eat My ABCs Project

Start date: January 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Evaluate the effects of the "Eat My ABCs" program on improving Head Start preschoolers' eating behavior and anthropometric properties (BMI, percent body fat).

NCT ID: NCT05756361 Recruiting - Overweight Clinical Trials

Family-Based Treatment for Type 1 Diabetes

FBT for T1D
Start date: April 26, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Type 1 Diabetes carries high burden for affected youth and their families. Advances in insulin therapy and technology have been associated with increased obesity with 1/3 adolescents being overweight/obese. Since obesity runs in families and carries risk for poor outcomes psychologically and medically, the investigators are adapting our successful evidence-based Family Based Treatment for hybrid delivery to improve obesity and metabolic control in the affected youth and improve obesity and related co-morbidities in their parents.

NCT ID: NCT05747976 Recruiting - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials
