Preoperative Mindfulness In Musculoskeletal Tumor

Psychosocial distress is common in patients with an oncologic diagnosis, with anxiety being present in almost 20-30% of the patients.[1, 2, 10] Mindfulness exercises have shown to reduce this distress.[4, 5] Recently, the implementation of a 60-second mindfulness-based intervention has shown to have momentary effects on pain, anxiety, depression and anger in orthopaedic upper extremity patients.[9] However, its lasting effect after the single intervention was not evaluated. Nonetheless, because the intervention is not time consuming and is easy to implement it may benefit orthopaedic oncology patients in their pre-operative coping. The implementation of a 60-second mindfulness-based intervention has shown to have momentary effects on pain, anxiety, depression and anger in orthopaedic upper extremity participants. This early phase I trial studies how well transcranial direct current stimulation works in reducing pain in cancer patients with chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy. Transcranial direct current stimulation is used for patients with brain injuries such as strokes as well as for mental health issues such as depression and may help to control pain in cancer patients with chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy.

Stereotactic Radiation Therapy Before Surgery for the Treatment of Resectable Brain Metastases

This trial studies how well stereotactic radiation therapy before surgery works in treating patients with cancer that has spread to the brain (brain metastases) and can be removed by surgery (resectable). Stereotactic radiation therapy is a specialized radiation therapy that delivers a single, high dose of radiation directly to the tumor, and may cause less damage to normal tissue. Giving stereotactic radiation therapy before surgery may make the return of brain metastases less likely and help patients live longer compared to surgery followed by radiation therapy.

Dual PD-1 and JAK2 Inhibition in Hematological Malignancies

Pembrolizumab will have significant clinical activity in patients with Intermediate and high risk MF, advanced PV who have been resistant, failed or are intolerant to JAK2 inhibitor therapy and the activity may be enhanced in combination with JAK2 inhibition by Ruxolitinib; similarly MDS/MPN and CMML patients for who no standard therapies are available will exhibit responses to PD-1 or dual JAK2 and PD-1 treatment. Adding JAK2 inhibitor Ruxolitinib to Pembrolizumab will have significant activity in patients with advanced, progressive HL who failed single agent PD-1 inhibition.

The purpose of this study is to test whether treatment with EBV-specific cytotoxic T cells (EBV-CTLs) is effective, and to test any good and bad effects of treatment with EBV-CTLs. EBV-CTLs are a special immune cells that may attack abnormal cells. EBV-CTLs are made by taking cells from a healthy person, growing them in a laboratory for several weeks to educate them to recognize and destroy EBV infected cells, and then storing them in a freezer until they are required for treatment.

GSK525762C and entinostat may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. This study may help doctors find out if giving the combination of GSK525762C and entinostat is better or worse than the usual approach for treating solid tumors or lymphomas.

HS-201, an HSP90 Inhibitor-linked Verteporfin for Detection of Solid Malignancies

HS-201 is Verteporfin-tethered HSP90 inhibitor for clinical imaging of selective tumor binding. HS-201 consists of a HSP90 inhibitor that binds competitively to the Hsp90 ATP binding domain connected by a linker to a photosensitizing agent (verteporfin) that can be used for imaging. HS-201 can freely enter tumor cells to selectively bind Hsp90. Due to the the verteporfin, HS-201 accumulation in the malignant cells allows for specific visualization of tumors within the body and verteporfin may allow for photodynamic therapy of tumors.
