Filter by:The aim of the study is to investigate the feasibility of in vivo single volume MR spectroscopy in evaluation of treatment response in patients with brain metastases, using 3T MR instrument. In order to optimize and avoid ineffective treatment of patients with brain metastases, in vivo MR spectroscopy can be an useful tool.
The purpose is to characterize tumour biological markers in brain metastases tissue from patients with different primary tumour by using ex vivo techniques as high-resolution magic angle spinning MR spectroscopy and micro array.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the combination of surgery, conventional chemotherapy, sequential high-dose chemotherapy with peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and reduced dose radiation therapy in high-risk PNET brain tumors.
Treatment on this study combines two drugs: Thalomidâ„¢ (thalidomide) and carboplatin. Thalidomide has been available for many years and has been used to treat many different illnesses. Carboplatin is an effective medicine in killing cancer cells. Thalidomide works by blocking angiogenesis (the process of new blood vessel formation). If a tumor does not have blood vessels providing oxygen and nutrients, it will not be able to grow. This research will look at how combining the effects of thalidomide (preventing tumor growth) with the tumor killing effect of carboplatin effects the long-term outlook for patients with these tumors. This study will try to find out how well Thalomidâ„¢ and carboplatin combined with radiation therapy works in treating children newly diagnosed with brain stem glioma. This study will look at how well Thalomid â„¢ and carboplatin work in patients with recurrent brain stem glioma. This study will also look at any side effects of these treatments.
The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of transplantation of high doses of peripheral blood stem cells (stem cells are special cells found in the blood and bone marrow that produce new blood cells) after treatment with non-myeloablative chemotherapy (not toxic to the bone marrow). In addition, this study will assess the side effects of the transplant.
The purpose of this study is to find out if Mind-Body groups can help improve the physical and emotional well-being of people facing cancer or its treatment.
Thermal therapy (hyperthermia of heat) can increase the effect of chemotherapy treatments. By itself, thermal therapy can also kill cancer cells. By using thermal therapy to treat the whole body, the investigators can treat cancer cells wherever they are throughout the entire body. In this study, the investigators are testing the combination of thermal therapy combined with chemotherapy to see: 1. if it improves the effect of the chemotherapy drugs, 2. if it helps the body fight the cancer cells, and 3. if this treatment is safe for the patient. This study does not offer heat treatment alone. Any patient with advanced or metastatic breast, or endometrial cancer resistant to standard treatment may be treated with the phase II protocol therapy; however, the patient will need to undergo some medical tests to make sure this treatment would be safe for them.
The purpose of this research is to evaluate an automated, laser-based technique for measuring DNA damge resulting from radiation. We want to use controlled exposure on cancer patients to help develop a measurement to test people who may have been accidentally exposed to radiation.
A study is being conducted by the University of Rochester Cancer Center (URCC) in which patients with liver cancer will be treated with high dose conformal radiation therapy. This type of radiation uses new techniques which aim the radiation to the sites of disease allowing the tumor to receive a high dose and the surrounding normal liver tissue to receive a low enough dose that the normal tissue should remain free from injury. The purpose of the study is to determine if the conformal radiation therapy is safe, tolerable and effective in treating liver cancer and to determine the side effects caused by this treatment. A second objective is to determine if the levels of a special type of protein (called cytokines) found in the blood are related to this treatment.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether dietary lycopene supplementation lowers serum prostate specific antigen(PSA) in men with high grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN).
