A Multicenter Phase 2 Study of CI-1040 in Patients With Advanced Nonsmall-Cell Lung, Breast, Colon and Pancreatic Cancer

CI-1040 is an experimental drug that is being tested in patients who have advanced colorectal and lung cancer who failed no more than one prior chemotherapy regimen, breast cancer who have failed no more than 2 prior regimens and in patients with pancreatic cancer who have received no prior chemotherapy. CI-1040 is taken orally twice daily with meals. Patients are required to have blood tests periodically while receiving treatment and will be monitored closely throughout the trial for possible side effects and for response.

L-carnitine is a supplement (type of vitamin) that has been suggested to be decreased in patients with cancer. We will identify patients that have terminal cancer and fatigue. The purpose of this study is to determine if L-carnitine replacement improves fatigue in cancer patients with L-carnitine deficiency.

Study of Noni in Cancer Patients

The purpose of this Phase 1 study is to: 1. determine the maximum tolerated dose of capsules containing 500mg of freeze dried noni fruit extract, 2. define toxicities associated with the ingestion of noni, 3. collect preliminary information on the efficacy of noni in respect to anti-tumor and symptom control properties to help select specific patients for subsequent Phase 2 studies, 4. identify chemical constituents of the extract that can be used to characterize the bioavailability and pharmacokinetics of noni food supplement.
