Filter by:The Nutritarian Women's Health Study (NWHS) is a long-term hybrid effectiveness-implementation study on the effect of the Nutritarian Diet on the occurrence, recurrence, and progression of chronic diseases (including all forms of cancer and cardiometabolic risk factors).
Base on enriched resources from the Metabolic Syndrome cohort in children, a long-term prospective cohort study will be carried out. This cohort is a unique biochemical and genetic database of Chinese population with large number of subjects in the world. By collecting information of disease history and lifestyle, measuring clinical and metabolic parameters, especially biomarkers which can reflect the underlying mechanism of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, we intend to sort out some unique biochemical and genetic markers for Chinese population.
Internal medicine resident physicians were provided an ipod with the EN application to assist them in choosing EN formulas for patients during their ICU rotation. The primary outcome was improved initiation of EN within 24 hours of admission. Secondary outcomes include, time to initiate EN, goal calories reached, infections rates, length of stay, mortality, and concordance with clinical guidelines.
The outlook of a community-based intervention targeting nutrition and lifestyle behaviour modification among adults with metabolic syndrome (MetS) has not been fully explored. The primary aim of this study (PERSUADE) is to evaluate the effect of the peer support intervention on the clinical outcomes MetS components followed by improvements in the participants' dietary practices, physical activity levels and lifestyle behaviours. The program constructed using information obtained from the published clinical and dietary guideline in Malaysia.
To test the hypothesis that GLP1 can exert favourable effects on multiple aspects of brain function. To this purpose, the investigator determine whether chronic increase in GLP1 concentration as it occurs after bariatric surgery (Roux-en- Y Gastric Bypass) is associated with improvement in: - cognitive function measured by Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Mental Deterioration Battery(MDB). - brain glucose metabolism measured by FDG-CT/PET - neuroplasticity measure by binocular rivalry and saccadic adaptation tests in morbid obese subjects. In order to discern the effect of GLP1 irrespective of changes in the metabolic milieu the investigator will test whether short-term GLP-1 infusion can modulate the same parameters in healthy subjects.
Many adults who are overweight have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) which disrupts sleep and makes it difficult to breath during the night. OSA increases the risk for a person to become insulin resistant and diabetic. It is not known why OSA causes this problem, i.e., whether it is disrupted sleep or lack of oxygen., which can change how the body handles glucose in adipose tissue, muscle tissue and liver. The purpose of this research study is to determine the key issues and mechanisms responsible for dysregulated glucose metabolism in people with OSA. The investigators will do this by comparing glucose metabolism in people who have OSA, and those who do not, and by evaluating the effect of treating OSA by providing continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or simply oxygen during the night. The proposed study will evaluate the primary causes(s) (hypoxia, sleep fragmentation, or both) and pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for the OSA-associated metabolic abnormalities. Knowing the primary cause of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for the OSA-associated metabolic abnormalities could help develop potentially novel therapeutic strategies to provide treatment for adults in improving OSA and associated comorbidities.

Study of ORL-1G in Patients With Glycogen Storage Disease Type 14
The trial aims to evaluate role of metabolic factors including systemic 25-OH D and diabetes in the adaptive immune response (haemagluttination inhibition titer) to influenza vaccine in the elderly. The influenza vaccine administered in this study will be licensed trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine. Elderly who are age above 65 including those with co-morbidities such as diabetes mellitus will be included. The study has its inclusion and exclusion criteria to determine eligibility for participation.
