NCT ID: NCT04922424 Withdrawn - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Mechanisms and Interventions to Address Cardiovascular Risk of Gender-affirming Hormone Therapy in Trans Men

Start date: September 30, 2022
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Gender-identity differences are becoming increasingly diagnosed in the US and treatment with gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) is associated with improved mental health outcomes. However, GAHT has been associated with cardiovascular risk in adult transgender patients, although mechanisms and treatments have not been explored. Understanding the cardiovascular effects and exploring the potential of a lipid sensitive statin as a potential treatment is important to optimizing safe treatment strategies for transgender men in mitigating this modifiable risk factor, and designing and implementing effective interventions.

NCT ID: NCT02947334 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Primary Hyperlipidemia or Mixed Dyslipidemia

Efficacy And Safety Of Bococizumab For Lipid Lowering In Asian Hypercholesterolemia Subjects

SPIRE-ASIA
Start date: October 31, 2016
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study is a Phase 3, double blind, placebo controlled, randomized, stratified, parallel group, multi-center clinical trial designed to compare the efficacy and safety of bococizumab 150 mg SC Q2wks to placebo for LDL-C lowering in subjects with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia at high or very high risk for CV events. The study will enroll a total of approximately 750 subjects from 4 - 5 Asian countries/areas (including China mainland); of which approximately 600 subjects will be from sites in China. Subjects will be randomized into a bococizumab treatment arm and a placebo arm in a 1:1 ratio.

NCT ID: NCT02799758 Withdrawn - Dyslipidemia Clinical Trials

Efficacy & Long-term Safety Comparison Study of NK-104-CR & Livalo® IR With Primary Hyperlipidemia or Mixed Dyslipidemia

Start date: February 2016
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the superior efficacy of NK-104-CR 8 mg daily compared to Livalo® IR 4 mg daily on fasting serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) reduction and to evaluate the comparative safety of NK-104-CR 8 mg daily to Livalo® IR 4 mg daily after long-term treatment

NCT ID: NCT02670434 Withdrawn - Dyslipidemia Clinical Trials

Safety and Efficacy Comparison Study of NK-104-CR (Controled Release) in Patients With Primary Hyperlipidemia or Mixed Dyslipidemia

Start date: January 2016
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of NK-104-CR with Placebo and Livalo® on the reduction of LDL-C and to evaluate the safety of NK-104-CR in patients with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia

NCT ID: NCT02019680 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Disease

Study of the Effects of Blackcurrant Extract and Omega-3 Fats on the Health of the Heart and Blood Vessels

Start date: December 10, 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Background: - Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Eating fruits and vegetables with chemicals called flavonoids may protect against heart disease and improve blood flow to the heart. They are found in blackcurrant berries. Oils found in fish and mussels called omega-3 fats have also been shown to protect the heart. Researchers want to know if blackcurrant extract and omega-3 fats can improve blood flow, which may increase blood to the heart. They also want to learn about the health of blood vessels and how the heart works. Objective: - To learn if blackcurrant extract and omega-3 fats will improve blood flow and make the heart beat stronger. Eligibility: - Healthy adults 55 to 75 years old. Design: - Participants will be screened with medical history, physical exam, and blood tests. - Visit 1 will take 6 7 hours. - Participants will have physical exam and blood and urine tests. - A small device like a microphone will be placed on their arm to take pictures of blood vessels. A blood pressure cuff will be tightened on their arm and more pictures will be taken. - Blood pressure cuffs will be placed on their arms and legs. They will be tightened at the same time and blood pressure will be measured. - Participants will answer questions about their eating and exercise. - Every 8 weeks, participants switch from taking blackcurrant and/or omega-3 tablets to a placebo to no tablets. <TAB> - Every 8 weeks, they will have another shorter clinic visit that will repeat most of visit 1.

NCT ID: NCT01569854 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Hypercholesterolemia

Genetic Influence on Statin Pharmacodynamics

Start date: March 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The study intends to investigate whether genetics influence how individuals respond to statins (clinical outcomes and changes in carotid intimal media thickness)

NCT ID: NCT01274104 Withdrawn - Hyperlipidemia Clinical Trials

A Pilot Study on the Effect of Vitamin D Treatment in Patients With Statin-Associated Myalgia

Start date: October 2010
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to measure the effect vitamin D has in alleviating muscle pain or aches that may be caused by taking certain medications for treating high cholesterol.

NCT ID: NCT00738985 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Efficacy of Ezetimibe/Simvastatin 10/20 mg and MK0524A (1-2 g/Day) in Mixed Hyperlipidemia and Two or More Risk Factors

Start date: November 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

To measure the percentage of patients who achieve all the treatment lipid goals being treated with ezetimibe/simvastatin 10/20 with or without MK0524A (1-2 g/day).

NCT ID: NCT00572429 Withdrawn - HIV Infections Clinical Trials

Effects of Mixed Exercise Regime and L-Carnitine Supplementation in HIV Patients on HAART

HIV
Start date: July 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

HIV patients treated with Highly Active AntiRetroviral Therapy (HAART) show significant metabolic symptoms, such as lipodystrophy, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance. A possible contribution to these symptoms in HIV/HAART is a decrease in mitochondrial function, resulting in a decreased fatty acid oxidation. A combined regime of aerobic and resistance training has been demonstrated to increase lean body mass and reduce overall fat and truncal fat and the levels of triglyceride and LDL cholesterol.

NCT ID: NCT00064688 Withdrawn - Obesity Clinical Trials

Start date: July 2003
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To search for the genetic cause of the metabolic syndrome, a lipid disorder that poses a major risk for coronary heart disease.
