Filter by:The purpose of this study is to determine the proportion of newly diagnosed participants with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 (naive participants) with virologic response at Week 48-defined as HIV-1 Ribonucleic acid (RNA) less than (<) 50 copies/milliliter (mL) (Food And Drug Administration snapshot) - after the implementation of the Test & Treat model of care and in a historical cohort.
To assess the safety of combination immune therapy in HIV-infected participants whose HIV is controlled with ART, by determining the incidence and severity of adverse events.
The investigators are studying whether metabolic abnormalities in calf (leg) muscle in older people with and others without HIV are associated with decreased abilities to exercise.
This study evaluates whether the Potlako+ intervention of community education, clinical provider support, and patient navigation can improve access to cancer case for patients presenting with symptoms of cancer. Half of communities will receive the Potlako+ intervention, while the other communities will continue to receive standard programs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that emergency departments (EDs) and other health care facilities conduct HIV and HCV screening to identify and link to care those with undiagnosed infections. Screening for both infections in EDs is preferable due to: the shared overlap of some risk behaviors for HIV and HCV acquisition (e.g., drug use) the relatively high co-occurrence of these infections in some populations the more complex medical needs and worse sequelae for those co-infected, and efficiency. Although some EDs have experimented with dual HIV and HCV screening, best practices on how to conduct screening so as to maximize patient screening uptake have yet to be identified. In this pilot RCT, the investigators will examine the efficacy of the persuasive health communication intervention in convincing adult ED patients who decline rapid HIV/HCV screening to be tested for these infections. Adult ED patients who decline rapid HIV/HCV screening will be randomly assigned to the ED medical staff arm or the HIV/HCV counselor arm. Within each arm, participants further will be randomly assigned to receive the persuasive health communication intervention or to watch a CDC HIV/HCV testing brochures-based video. Following the intervention or control condition, all participants will be offered rapid HIV/HCV testing again.
The overall objective of this study is to evaluate whether the addition of secondary distribution HIV self-test kits to existing partner notification guidelines increases the proportion of male partners who access facility-based HIV testing services, when compared to the partner notification strategy alone
The ENHANCED -SPS study is a before and after cluster randomized trial that will be conducted in 14 public health facilities providing HIV care in Southwestern Uganda. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of a multi-component intervention package that targets barriers to achieving optimal viral suppression among pregnant and postpartum women infected with HIV. This will be in two phases; In Phase 1 ("Before"), all 14 clinics will have a baseline assessment of standard of care VL procedures and assess the barriers and facilitators to viral suppression for a period of 3 months. In Phase 2 ("After"), 7 clinics randomized to control arm will continue to experience standard of care counseling procedures, and 7 clinics randomized to intervention will initiate the ENHANCE-PS intervention. The Phase 2 ("After") phase I will last at least 12 months.
TB-Speed HIV is a prospective multicentre management study evaluating the safety and feasibility of the recently proposed PAANTHER TB treatment decision algorithm for HIV-infected children with presumptive TB. It will be conducted in four countries with high and very high TB (Tuberculosis) incidence (Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, Mozambique, and Zambia) which have not participated in the study that developed the PAATHER algorithm.
The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate an innovative behavioral HIV prevention videogame intervention to bolster motivation and provide skill-building opportunities to improve Black adolescent girls' ability to negotiate around risk including advocating for partner HIV/sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, increasing their knowledge and awareness of HIV/STIs, and for reducing sexual risk-taking behaviors.
HIV prevalence among men with have sex with men (MSM) in Ghana is at least eight times higher than that of the general population (2%). MSM in Ghana face high levels of stigma due to HIV status (actual or perceived), same-sex behavior, and gender non-conformity. These stigmas are documented barriers to HIV prevention and treatment. In our preliminary work in Ghana (N=137), one-third of MSM had never been tested for HIV. This study is a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and estimate effect size of a multi-component, multi-level (organizational, interpersonal, and intrapersonal-level) intersectional stigma-reduction intervention to increase HIV testing frequency among MSM in Ghana where HIV, same-sex behavior and gender non-conformity are highly stigmatized. To date, stigma-reduction interventions in Ghana have focused on uni-level targets (e.g., health care facilities (HCFs)) and addressed one type of stigma (e.g., HIV), without engaging the intersectional character of the multiple stigmas that MSM encounter. Our specific aims are: 1. to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a novel multi-component, multi-level intervention to address intersectional stigma. 2. to estimate effect size of the intervention for scale up to a definitive efficacy trial. Our primary endpoint are: For MSM: HIV testing, intervention feasibility and acceptability For HCFs: intervention feasibility, acceptability and appropriateness Our secondary endpoints are: MSM: Intersectional stigma reduction HCF: Intersectional stigma reduction This study will combine three theory-based interventions that were previously implemented separately in Ghana for reducing stigma at HCF-level, increasing HIV testing at the peer group-level, and increasing peer social support at the individual-level. Convergence Framework will be used for combining interventions. The ADAPT-ITT framework guides our approach to enhancing the interventions' content on intersectional stigma. To achieve these aims a systematic adaptation that will be used to refine the individually developed HCF, peer- and individual-level interventions to produce a comprehensive multi-level intersectional stigma reduction intervention.
