Filter by:All patients eligible for TIPS (Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) procedure will be considered for inclusion. After written inform consent, psychometric tests in order to calculate the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy (PHES) score, the gold standard for the diagnosis of minimal encephalopathy and critical flicker frequency (CFF) will be performed before the TIPS procedure. After TIPS, patients will be followed during one year and the psychometric test and CFF will be performed every 3 months. 30 patients will be included. The main endpoint is the success rate of CFF. The secondary end points are - Correlation between CFF and PHES score - Performance of CFF and PHES score to predict the occurrence of overt encephalopathy after TIPS procedure - A sample collection during TIPS procedure is also performed for validation of biomarkers
Recently, early biomarkers of renal interstitial fibrosis have been identified, amongst them de novo expression of vimentin by tubular epithelial cells, which is an intermediate filament, and the translocation of beta-catenin into their cytoplasm. These markers, when present, suggest that the epithelial cell undergoes a phenomenon well known as "epithelial to mesenchymal transition" (EMT) and could behaves like a myo-fibroblast. EMT is highly instrumental in several models of tissue fibrosis, including in the kidney. Actually, it has not only been demonstrated that these markers are detectable in the renal graft at an early time point post-transplant (i.e. as soon as three months), but also that the intensity of their expression correlates with the progression of interstitial fibrosis of the graft between 3 and 12 months
This is a pilot study. The purpose of the study is to facilitate the development of a new biomarker of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) function using rectal tissue.
Early diagnosis of liver fibrosis is useful for the follow-up and treatment of chronic liver disease. At present, the unique validated method to evaluate the liver fibrosis in children, is the liver biopsy which is an invasive method. If the elastometry method is proved to be a good method to evaluate the fibrosis in children, a numerous liver biopsy could be avoided.
For some years, the investigators observe an increase of the arisen of diabetes in cystic fibrosis patients However, this diabetes may be reversible. The investigators speak about " Cystic fibrosis related diabetes.". The objective of this project, is to know better what facilitates the appearance and the reversibility of the diabetes, such as the genetic mutations, the respiratory state and the lung infections. Theses knowledges should allow to adapt the screening of diabetes, and its treatment, for the patients affected by cystic fibrosis.
Study purpose: The disease course of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is variable. During the course of the disease some patients will get better, some will stay the same, and others will get worse. Currently doctors do not have any way to predict an individual patients disease course. The purpose of this study is to determine if 'biomarkers' such as proteins or genes isolated at the time of diagnosis can be used to predict the disease course. These 'biomarkers' will be obtained from samples of blood, from a procedure call a bronchoscopy, and in some patients from extra tissue obtained by a surgical lung biopsy.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common lethal, inherited disorder among Caucasians. Choline is an essential vitamin and as a methyl donor is critically needed to support the normal metabolism. Our previous studies have demonstrated that children with CF have depleted levels of choline. The purpose of this study is to supply a choline supplement to children with CF to see if their nutrition and methyl status can be improved.
The purpose of this study is to see if the study drug called spironolactone reduces fibrous (stiffening) in heart muscle tissue and improves heart function. Subjects from the study titled "Heart Failure in Congenital Heart Disease: the role of myocardial fibrosis" who have evidence of heart dysfunction and/or evidence of fibrosis (stiffening) in the heart muscle will be asked to take part in this study.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a frequent complication of cirrhosis. Occurrence of HCC could be linked with multiple functional region of genome. The determining of a genomic mapping of " single nucleotide polymorphisms " (SNPs) permit to perform some genetic link studies with pathologies without clear hereditary disposition. In this study, the investigators will identify predictives genetic polymorphism of HCC.
The purpose of this research study was to determine if an experimental drug called Aztreonam for Inhalation Solution (AZLI) was safe and effective to treat Burkholderia lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Spirometry was used to assess pulmonary function, and the revised Cystic Fibrosis Questionnaire (CFQ-R) was used to assess quality of life. The CFQ-R is a validated, patient-reported outcome tool used to measure health-related quality of life for children and adults with CF. The study consisted of a 24-week randomized phase, and a 24-week open-label phase. Primary and secondary efficacy analyses were conducted for the 24-week randomized phase only. Safety data were collected for both the randomized and open-label phases.
