Filter by:Muscle fatigue is caused by biochemical changes that modify the mechanics of muscle contraction, which result in negative changes in the performance of the contraction. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of LLLT on brachial biceps muscle fatigue in healthy individuals and individuals with spastic hemiparesis. The study will consist of three groups (Control Group, Placebo Group and LLLT Group) and all individuals will go through all groups, following the criteria of randomization. The protocol consists of LLLT application in the dominant side brachialis muscle in healthy subjects and on the hemiparetic side of post-stroke individuals, prior to performing the Isometric Maximum Voluntary Contraction (IMVC) for 50 seconds in the isokinetic dynamometer. Will be evaluated pain, myoelectric activity associated with muscular torque, local temperature and blood lactate concentration.
Among the symptoms referred by cancer patients, cancer related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most disabling symptom with a relevant impact on the quality of life. CRF can occur before, during and after anti-cancer treatment. The aim of the present study is to verify the efficacy of American Ginseng in preventing or reducing the intensity of moderate-severe CRF in breast cancer women receiving adjuvant chemotherapy with anthracyclines plus cyclophosphamide after surgery.
This study evaluates the correlation between the 6-min walking test (6MWT) with gases measurement, and the peak cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) using incremental cycling with gases and workload measurement, in order to determine if the 6MWT detects impairment in exercise tolerance and if it avoids the post-exertional malaise that the peak CPET causes on decreasing levels of physical activity, in participants affected by chronic fatigue syndrome/ myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME). Physical activity level at baseline (usual activity, the parcipant will not be given any directions) will be recorded during 7 days, 24 hours/day. Afterwards, the 6MWT will be performed. After this test, the physical activity level will be collected again during 7 days, 24 hours/day. Peak CPET will be carried out 14 days after 6MWT to make sure that the basal levels are recovered, and finally, physical activity level will be collected again during 7 days, 24 hours/day.
Fatigue is the most common symptom and the most disabling symptom of Multiple Sclerosis, and its inefficient management can be a source of multiple consultations (increase in health costs) and a reduction in productivity (work stoppages). Hence the need to define the most effective therapeutic strategy to reduce fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis. One of the aims of this project is to provide clinical indicators that can serve as evaluation criteria for determining the most effective fatigue management strategy in Multiple Sclerosis. The primary objective of the study is to determine the Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID) and the Patient Acceptable Symptomatic State (PASS) for fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis. The source population consists of all people with Multiple Sclerosis living in Lorraine and registered in the Lorraine Registry of Multiple Sclerosis (RelSEP).

The main aim of the project is to evaluate a novel upper body exoskeleton during simulated industrial work. In this stage of the project, a study analysing the physical and mental load during occupational work will be carried out. High risk tasks will be identified in the field and simulated in lab-setting to analyse physical and mental load using physiological and biomechanical data.These will include, but will not be limited to, non-ergonomic postures, for example performing operations above the head or reaching in front of, to the side of, or behind the body; flexing the arms for extended periods of time; and bending or twisting the torso to lift an object from low or distant locations. Important items to assess in this task are the frequency and duration of tasks and activities, lifting characteristics, perceived physical effort and work-induced fatigue.

In hospitals, the improvement of working conditions is often considered secondarily to patient satisfaction. Previous studies, showing statistically significant relationships, suggested the impact of hospital departments' organization (staff / patient ratio, bed distribution, caregiver's assignment), of the work environment, and the working conditions on the infectious risk at the hospital departments. In addition, organizational hospital constraints and the organization of care could equally have a major impact on the physical and psychological health of care workers (stress, fatigue, job satisfaction). To date, available data suggest that determinants of occupational stress and fatigue are multifactorial. This research aims to develop an interdisciplinary approach to link two phenomena that are often studied independently while they are closely intertwined: working conditions and infectious risk in hospitals departments. Their main objective is to study the relationship between stress and caregiver fatigue at the work, organizational determinants and infectious risk for patients (healthcare-associated infections: HAIs) and for caregivers (blood exposure accidents: BEAs). The secondary objective is to analyze how the individual characteristics of the staff, the characteristics of their employment, and the overall organization in the hospital departments where they work interact to explain their physical and psychological state of health, on the one hand, and their behavior face to work (absenteeism, turnover and hand hygiene) on the other hand. The ultimate goal of this research is to be able to propose organizational strategies aimed at both reducing the probability of occurrence of healthcare-associated infections and preventing occupational risks for caregivers.
Placebo controlled trial study of efficacy of Kinetic Oscillation Stimulation (KOS) in nasal cavity will be conducted in patients with myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). The outcome of the treatment will be assessed with clinical evaluation of patients, cognitive tests, structural and functional MRI of the brain.
