NCT ID: NCT03163771 Recruiting - Diagnoses Disease Clinical Trials

Evaluation of a New Strategy for the Diagnosis of Peroxisomal Diseases

PEROXY4G
Start date: December 17, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The principal aim of the study is to avoid the diagnostic wanderings of patients suffering from a peroxisomal disorder. For this purpose, a new diagnostic strategy is proposed. It rests on functional metabolic explorations and gene studies directly connected to a first-line enlarged physico-chemical detection of metabolites from peroxisomal origin in clinically suspect patients.

NCT ID: NCT03160274 Recruiting - Pheochromocytoma Clinical Trials

Genetic Analysis of Pheochromocytomas, Paragangliomas and Associated Conditions

Start date: October 19, 2005
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas are neural crest-derived tumors of the nervous system that are often inherited and genetically heterogeneous. Genetic screening is recommended for patients and their relatives, and can guide clinical decisions. However, a mutation is not found in all cases. The aims of this proposal are to: 1) to map gene(s) involved in pheochromocytoma, and 2) identify genotype-phenotype correlations in patients with pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma of various genetic origins.

NCT ID: NCT03156959 Recruiting - Eating Disorder Clinical Trials

CBT-Eb Plus EMDR Versus CBT-Eb in Patients With Eating Disorders

TREAT-EMDR
Start date: June 19, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Enhanced CBT (CBT-E) is an effective treatment for the majority of outpatients with an eating disorder; however in about 30% of patients remission is made difficult. This may be due to the concomitant presence of trauma. Therefore we expect that a combination of CBT-E and EMDR, which is the evidence based treatment for PTSD disorder, would enhance the remission probability. This trial has a parallel group randomized controlled design. All patients who will enter in contact with the Regional Reference Centre for Eating Disorders in Verona and will satisfy inclusion criteria will be randomized to the broad form of CBT-E (CBT-Eb) plus EMDR or CBT-Eb alone. Patients will be evaluated before the treatment, at the end of treatment and after 6 months post-treatment with a set of standardized measure to assess eating disorder symptoms and other possible predisposing and moderating factors. The efficacy of CBT-E vs CBT-E + EMDR will be evaluated at the end of the treatment and after 6 months in terms of global score of the Eating Disorder Examination. Moreover the changes in other secondary outcomes will be considered. This explorative study may suggest new hypothesis for larger RCTs in order to increase the knowledge on ED.

NCT ID: NCT03152175 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Adjustment Disorders

Posttraumatic Stress Disorders in Police, Correctional Service Officers, and 911 Operators

Start date: March 30, 2017
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Police officers, correctional service officers, and 911-operators are at increased risk for suffering from trauma-related disorders due to their direct and indirect exposure to life-threatening events, such as shootings, violent assaults, or car accidents, among others. Typical treatments for post-traumatic stress disorders include psychotherapy and pharmacological therapies (i.e., antidepressants). Although these interventions are effective for many sufferers, they all have limitations. Thus, the investigators propose to explore the usefulness of a new therapeutic technique, reconsolidation blockade, which involves reactivating the trauma memory while under the influence of propranolol. Objectives and hypotheses: To explore the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of reconsolidation blockade therapy as an adjunct treatment for trauma- and stressor-related disorders as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Mental Disorders-5. The investigators hypothesize that, compared to the control group, 5 weekly trauma-memory reactivations under propranolol treatment will confer a significant reduction in trauma-related symptoms and significantly more health-related economic benefits. Stress symptoms and health-related costs will be assessed at 7, 26 and 52 weeks after study inclusion. In this study, the investigators will also explore the effects of reconsolidation blockade with propranolol on various neuropsychological functions.

NCT ID: NCT03146130 Recruiting - Parkinson Clinical Trials

Study of the Efficacy of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on Impulse Control Disorders

NoISE-PD
Start date: July 5, 2018
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Impulse control disorders encountered in Parkinson's disease (PD) are induced by dopaminergic medications and their frequency is estimated to be nearly 20%, mainly under dopaminergic agonists (AD).

NCT ID: NCT03131869 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Deglutition Disorders

Development of Novel, Biophysically Designed Fluids for Swallowing Disorders

Start date: February 22, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

People suffering from swallowing disorders (dysphagia) have a hard time swallowing liquids that are too thin (like water or coffee) or too thick, correctly. They can have health problems, such as chest infections and malnutrition because when they try to drink, some of the liquid "goes down the wrong pipe" and into the lungs. To help people with dysphagia, Swallow Solutions is developing thickened liquids that have added nutrition, taste good, and quench thirst, but are still easy and safe to swallow.

NCT ID: NCT03118011 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Substance Use Disorders

Substance Use Disorders and Tobacco Habits

Start date: April 10, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In the department for substance use disorders at Uppsala University Hospital there are two wards. One that is locked, where the patients that are emitted can not go out to smoke and another ward where there is a possibility to go out and smoke during the day. The smoking habits on those two floors will be compared and how they feel about smoking will be evaluated when they are admitted to the ward, at discharge, after 1 mont and after 6 months.

NCT ID: NCT03114423 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Substance Use Disorders

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

Start date: April 7, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this clinical study is to examine the established, therapeutic EMDR intervention for patients with substance use disorders (SUD). The EMDR method is an integrative and structured therapeutic method which assumes that memories which have been dysfunctionally stored can lead to harmful behavior. The EMDR protocol used for this clinical trials has been specifically developed for patients with SUD - the results should be compared with traditional therapy. For the assessment of the EMDR treatment some questionnaires are given at several times.

NCT ID: NCT03114007 Recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Integrated Prevention and Collaborative Care for Youth Mental Health

Start date: April 24, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Mental health problems affect 10-20% of children and adolescents worldwide, with half of affected youth experiencing problems by the age of 14. Despite the early onset of mental health problems, evidence-based prevention and early intervention programs remain scarce. If left untreated, early-onset mental health problems can progress to become severe or chronic conditions, and incur significant medical and societal costs. The current project proposes an integrated screening and intervention model that was developed involving active youth, family and community engagement. This project, known as Inter-Venture, focuses on reducing barriers to youth mental health care and promoting early screening and intervention by fostering collaboration between school and community-based services providers. The Inter-Venture project is being conducted in the Montreal area (Canada), and consists of three intervention modalities. Namely, 1) systematic school-based screening and personality-targeted interventions for students most at risk of mental health problems and substance misuse (the Preventure program); 2) a parent program designed to strengthen parenting skills and to improve the management of child behavior problems (Cope/EQUIPE program); 3) integrated services provided by a multidisciplinary team of professionals (referred to as Inter-Action) for youth with significant symptoms of mental health problems, substance misuse and/or psychosocial difficulties. The intervention model involves knowledge transfer to boost capacity-building and improve the provision and sustainability of evidence-based interventions in community settings. The primary goal of the Inter-Venture trial is to assess the potential effect of the school-based targeted interventions and collaborative care in the prevention, early detection and reduction of mental health problems, substance misuse and psychosocial difficulties among young people. The secondary goal is to assess the effect of interventions on school performance and whether the interventions can protect cognitive functions that may be negatively affected by early-onset substance use and mental health problems, and promote cognitive development through the prevention of these difficulties.
