The Unified Protocol for the Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Spanish Public Mental Health System

The present randomized, controlled trial will compare the cost-efficacy and acceptability of the Unified Protocol in group format against traditional individual Cognitive Behavioral Treatment in a sample of patients with emotional disorders. Ultimately, the goal of the current study is to explore whether the Unified Protocol in group format can be a cost-effective psychological intervention for emotional disorders in the Spanish National Health System, that is, one that generates long-lasting changes in symptoms, while reducing both direct and indirect economic costs associated with the treatment of emotional disorders.

Nitric Oxide Supplementation on Neurocognitive Functions in Patients With ASLD

This is a study involving a dietary supplement. Patients with argininosuccinate lyase deficiency (ASLD) will be randomly assigned to receive either a nitric oxide dietary supplement or placebo for 24 weeks, and then crossed-over to receive the other treatment for 24 weeks. The investigators will assess the effects of the supplement in domains of general cognition, memory, executive functioning, and fine motor functioning in individuals with ASLD.

The Gut Microbiota of Bipolar and Depression

Background: The gut microbiome is emerging as an important factor in regulating mental health yet it remains unclear what the target should be for psychiatric treatment. Investigators aim at elucidating the complement of the gut microbiome community for individuals with Major Depressive disorder (MDD) and Bipolar disorder (BD) relative to controls, and test for relationships with symptoms. Methods: Investigators prospect to recruit subjects including patients and controls amount to 240. All subjects will be collected for blood and stool samples,assessed by clinical scales. Finally, analyzing the correlation among the metabolon in blood, microbiota in stool and clinical scales to obtain the possible interaction between diseases and gut microbiota.

Clonazepam Effects on Brain Oscillations and Cognition in Schizophrenia

Cognitive deficits are some of the most prominent and disabling symptoms of schizophrenia. Evidence suggests that schizophrenia involves alterations to the functioning of a neural system under the control of a brain chemical called GABA. The present project will compare the effects of low-dose clonazepam (at a sub-sedating dose) to placebo, for effects on GABA- modulated brain activity measured by EEG, and associated cognitive processes in people who have schizophrenia.

Alcohol dependence is among the most common and costly public health problems affecting the nation. Among individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD), those with (vs. without) a co-occurring anxiety disorder (AnxD) are as much as twice as likely to relapse in the months following AUD treatment. Dysregulation of biological stress-mood systems predict and correlate with AUD relapse and AnxD symptomatology. In contrast, stress system re-regulation correlates with improved AUD treatment outcomes but has not been examined with respect to AUD recovery and relapse in co-occurring AUD+AnxD.

Stop&Go: an Intervention Program to Promote Healthy and Active Lifestyles Among Patients With Substance Use Disorders

Stop&Go is an intervention program aimed at promoting a healthy and physically active lifestyle for patients requiring inpatient detoxification treatment. The program includes two different phases. Phase I is aimed at understanding the variables related with adherence to healthy lifestyle interventions. Phase II will use the knowledge obtained in Phase I to develop and evaluate an intervention based on Self-determination theory to promote healthy and physically active lifestyles for patients admitted to an inpatient detoxification centre. The Stop&Go intervention is hypothesized to help patients move towards a healthy lifestyle and thus, may bring about changes in patients' (1) knowledge acquired, (2) indicators of healthy habits (e.g., exercise motivation) and (3) psychological well-being and ill-being.
