Filter by:Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors reduce plasma glucose and haemoglobin A1c(HbA1c) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by increasing urinary glucose excretion in a non-insulin-dependent fashion. However, in some situations lead to a diminished number of functional glomeruli with a consequent hyperfiltration in the remaining ones. This fact may be where the use of SGLT2 inhibitor could attenuate the renal damage. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the impact of using dapagliflozin on the renal functional deterioration of renal transplanted patients diabetics or not. This is a prospective, randomized, single-blinded, double-center, controlled trial. Patients will be randomized to add either Dapagliflozin 10 mg or Placebo to their treatment. Study drug will be administered by once-daily orallly. The first dose MUST be started within 1 and 7 days after randomization. The subsequent doses will be administered 24 ± 4 hours after the previous dose.
The main aim of this study is to identify the underlying mechanisms of Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors which are associated to better outcomes in patients with Diabetes mellitus type 2 and Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction.
The PREDICT 3 study will build on previous research in over 2,000 individuals to further refine machine learning models that predict individual responses to foods, with the aim of advancing precision nutrition science and individualized dietary advice. The study incorporates both standardized and controlled dietary intervention, for the purpose of testing postprandial responses to specific mixed meals, in addition to a free-living period with a dietary record for measuring responses to a large variety of meals consumed in a realistic context, where the role of external factors (e.g. exercise, sleep, time of day) on postprandial responses may be determined. For the first time this PREDICT study is built on top of a commercial product which will allow access to a much larger group of participants who are already collecting large amounts of data through digital and biochemical devices that can contribute to science.
Validation of the exendin-based beta cell imaging technique in patients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes is a major co-morbidity in pancreatic insufficient cystic fibrosis (PI-CF) and associated with worse outcomes. While reduced β-cell mass contributes to the insulin secretory defects that characterizes cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD), other modifiable determinants appear operative in the emergence and progression of abnormal glucose tolerance towards diabetes. Identifying interventions to preserve β-cell function are crucial for delaying and potentially preventing CFRD development. In this study, we hypothesize that weekly administration of the long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist dulaglutide will improve defective early-phase insulin secretion and improve glucose tolerance during a mixed-meal tolerance test.
An open-label, three-centers, controlled, randomized, and crossover study containing 14 days of baseline period with standard of care (SOC) therapy followed by two-sessions of 4-weeks home study phase with Diabeloop closed-loop (CL) system comparing the declaration of meals and the non-declaration of meals.

To compare and evaluate the effects of LDL-C and Triglyceride (TG) control on the first dose Ezetimibe/Statin (Rosuvastatin 5 mg/Ezetimibe 10 mg) combination therapy compared to the average dose Statin (Rosuvastatin 10 mg) monotherapy in patients with Type 2 diabetes with hypertriglyceridemia (TG > 200 mg/dL).
This study will assess changes in glycemic control in 40 patients with diabetes who undergo per-oral pyloromyotomy (POP) for medically refractory gastroparesis.
It is known that COVID-19 has a more negative clinical course and causes higher degrees of morbidity and mortality in case of COVID-19 in diabetic patients. However, the contribution of COVID-19 to hyperglycemia and its effect on glycemic parameters are uncertain. However, it is important to investigate homocysteine and lipid profile levels, respectively, and free radical levels known to be effective in the development of cardiovascular disease and diabetes due to oxidative stress, which can provide information about the identification and diagnosis of cardiovascular complications in the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, as the decrease in physical activity levels of individuals in the COVID-19 pandemic may cause possible secondary complications such as an increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease, determining the physical activity levels of individuals and encouraging them to physical activity is another important parameter to minimize the negative effects of the process. Patients who applied to Izmir Bakircay University Cigli Training and Research Hospital (Cigli Regional Education Hospital) and hospitalized in the COVID-19 service and healthy controls are planning to include in this study. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 will be included in Group I (n: 20), patients diagnosed with both Type II Diabetes Mellitus and COVID-19 will be included in Group II (n: 20) and healthy controls will be included in Group III (n:20). Hemoglobin A1c levels, lipid profiles, homocysteine, free radical levels and physical activity levels will be compared between groups. In addition, the change in the relevant variables before and after COVID-19 treatment will be determined by in-group comparisons in Group I and Group II. This study, which has a prospective and randomized controlled research plan, is planned to be carried out between January and February 2021. Research data will be obtained from blood samples taken from participants. In addition, data on physical activity levels will be collected through a questionnaire. After analyzing the data obtained from the research with appropriate statistical methods, the data will be evaluated.
