Filter by:This study aims to compare the efficacy and satisfaction of blood glucose management between continuous glucose monitoring versus traditional self blood glucose measurement in diabetic patients after pancreatectomy.
Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycaemia, causing microvascular and macrovascular complications. The latter lead to various disabilities: blindness, end-stage renal failure, nerve damage, formation of leg ulcers, and atherosclerosis. In people with type 2 diabetes, the probability of these atherosclerosis associated complications is twice as high as in people without diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases are also the main cause of mortality in people with diabetes. Preventive measures are therefore crucial. In people with type 2 diabetes, in addition to good glycaemic control, the choice of antidiabetic drugs is also important. Large-scale research has shown that certain glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) receptor agonists, in addition to improving the regulation of diabetes, also have a significant effect on reducing the macrovascular complications. It is now possible to use semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, in the tablet form. Semaglutide lowers blood sugar only when the blood sugar value rises, due to food in the digestive tract, Thus, not increasing the risk of hypoglycaemia. In addition, semaglutide has a significant effect on weight loss and very beneficial, protective effects on the cardiovascular system. Large studies have shown that in its injectable form, it significantly reduces the incidence of cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to examine how semaglutide provides protective effects on the cardiovascular system and reduces the risk of diabetes type 2 associated complications. The present study will include 100 people with type 2 diabetes and last for 12 months. The subjects will receive a semaglutide oral tablet daily in addition to their current treatment (combination of metformin and a sulphonyl urea). At the beginning of the study, after 6 months and at the end of the study (after 12 months of treatment), a detailed clinical examination will be performed and blood will be taken for laboratory parameters. In addition to basic blood tests, inflammatory and oxidative stress parameters, as well as lipid fractions parameters will also be assessed. Ultrasound examination of the changes in the carotid arteries and measures of additional properties of the arteries will also be performed. The confidentiality of the data of the participants in the research will be ensured, as the data obtained during the investigation will be encrypted before processing.
This randomized, cross-over study compares pasta produced with three different wheat varieties (Senatore Cappelli, Korasan, Claudio). Patients with type 2 diabetes with no pharmacological treatment will be randomized to three different sequences, and asked to eat a standard portion of pasta on three different occasions, four days apart. 3-hour post-prandial interstitial glucose profiles will be recorded using trans-cutaneous sensors.
Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) have changes in blood vessel health that can lead to a higher chance of developing heart attacks or strokes. New medications for T2DM including dapagliflozin, which is a Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2) inhibitor, may help protect the heart and blood vessels. The overarching objective of this mechanistic study is to learn how a Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 (SGT2) inhibitor, dapagliflozin, impacts vascular health in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The investigators will compare the changes in vascular health to changes in endothelial cell (EC) phenotype including non-coding RNA (ncRNA) to develop evidence supporting the mechanism of cardiovascular benefit of SGLT2 inhibitors. This study will provide novel information regarding the mechanism of effects of novel treatments for endothelial function and vascular health in patients with T2DM to reduce cardiovascular (CV) risk. The research aims to assess the: - effects of dapagliflozin on EC phenotype. - impact of dapagliflozin on vasodilator function and additional measures of vascular health including arterial stiffness and circulating markers of vascular health.
Diabetes is a leading social and economic burden in the world. It is the main reason of macrovascular disease incidence and mortality. Prospective studies have demonstrated that high glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events in a population of diabetic patients without a history of coronary artery disease. Further, the predictive value of high preprocedural glycemia levels has been reported in diabetic patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The aim of the present study was to assess the predictive value of preprocedural HbA1C levels for cardiovascular complications in a large population of diabetic patients undergoing PCI with stent implantation. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) reflects the average blood sugar level in the past 2-3 months. As glycosylated hemoglobin has been clinically tested and standardized internationally, increasing evidence is recommended for routine monitoring in diabetes care. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) suggested that in the treatment of diabetes, blood sugar control should control HbA1c level below 6.5%. Although,there is evidence that controlling blood glucose can reduce the incidence of microvascular complications, in the past three trials, intensive glycemic control did not significantly reduce adverse CV events in patients with onger duration of diabetes.Therefore, most primary and secondary prevention guidelines recommend HbA1c below 6.5% or 7% to prevent adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes mellitus. The optimal target level of glycosylated hemoglobin is still hotly debated. In addition, there is still lack of evidence for the level of HbA1c in patients with major vascular disease history in secondary prevention of recurrence cardiovascular events. Therefore, to explore and determine the optimal level of blood glucose control is the focus of controversy in preventing recurrence cardiovascular events in diabetic patients. Investigator will combine epidemiology and metabolomics to study the effect of glycosylated hemoglobin on secondary cardiovascular events, and further determine whether to strengthen hypoglycemic treatment after PCI.
A single centered, prospective, double blinded study enrolling 12 Type I diabetic patients (+ up to 4 replacements) in two cohorts. Patients will wear multiple FiberSense CGM systems for 28 days, with total duration of the participation up to 8 weeks (screening + active phase + follow up). The primary aims of the study are assessment of the safety and tolerability of the FiberSense CGM system during the wearing time together with characterization of the system performance when compared to capillary blood samples.
Study is an interventional clinical trial. children (aged 6-18 years) diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease will be recruited conveniently from Endocrinology pediatric clinic at Prince Hamzah Hospital. Amman, Jordan. A sample of 45 diagnosed children, who will meet the inclusion criteria and will be agreed to participate will be centrally randomized to follow carbohydrate counting with GFD dietary intervention, carbohydrate counting with GFD and DASH dietary intervention, and control dietary intervention.
A Prospective, Multicenter Evaluation of Accuracy and Safety of the Eversense CGM System with Enhanced Features. The purpose of this clinical investigation is to evaluate the accuracy of the Eversense 524 Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (Eversense 524 CGM System) and ROME CGM System with next generation feature enhancements compared to reference glucose measurements in adults 18 years of age and older with diabetes. The investigation will also evaluate safety of the Eversense 524 CGM System and ROME CGM System usage. Additionally, the safety and accuracy of the Eversense 524 CGM System will be evaluated in the pediatric population ages 14-17 with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.
