Filter by:Approximately 250,000 people worldwide are currently being treated with an insulin pump. This number is growing dramatically as these devices become smaller and more user-friendly. Insulin pumps allow for tight metabolic control and lifestyle flexibility while minimizing the number of hypoglycemic events. The NiliMedix ADI Insulin Pump is an ambulatory, battery operated, rate programmable micro- infusion pump, designed for continuous delivery of insulin. A custom reservoir is driven by the pressure of insulin within it to deliver preset basal profiles and patient programmed bolus of insulin through custom infusion sets, into subcutaneous tissue. This type of device requires extensive user interaction and education in order to ensure its safety. This study was designed to test the independent home-use of the NiliMedix ADI Insulin Pump, and to evaluate user's satisfaction.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance of the meter system in the hands of subjects and healthcare professionals (HCPs). It also evaluated the product user guides in the hands of untrained subjects.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance of the blood glucose monitoring system when used with samples taken from the palm and forearm for alternative site testing (AST).
Compare the glycemic and insulinemic responses of a standard nutritional product with two diabetes-specific nutritional products in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This trial is conducted in Europe. The aim of this clinical trial is to compare the change in trunk fat mass, assessed by Double Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) after 26 weeks of treatment with insulin detemir or insulin NPH (Neutral Protamine Hagedorn) (both combined with insulin aspart at the main meals) in overweight and obese subjects with type 2 diabetes.
We will evaluate the combination of quinapril and alpha lipoic acid in patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension. We will determine whether the combination of quinapril and lipoic acid as compared to quinapril and placebo provides benefit on systemic blood pressure and proteinuria.
The investigators are testing whether a written protocol or a computerized program can more effectively control blood glucose after surgery.
Despite formal recommendations, evidence of efficacy of aspirin in individuals with diabetes is scant and controversial. While the efficacy of aspirin versus placebo in patients with diabetes is currently under investigation in big randomized controlled trials, the putative additive effects of aspirin and statins in this population remain to be investigated. Moreover there are no data examining the pathophysiologic means by which aspirin with or without statins affects thrombosis in diabetic patients. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy of low-dose aspirin (100 mg/daily), statins, both or neither for the reduction of thrombin generation. These preventive strategies will be evaluated on the top of the other strategies aimed at optimizing the care of diabetic patients in terms of metabolic control and control of the other cardiovascular risk factors.
Metabolic Syndrome is a highly prevalent condition that is comprised of several major clustering factors that increase the risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy is a non-invasively measure can show changes in the microvasculature of human. Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy measures the optical absorption and scattering properties of near-infrared light in tissues such as muscle in order to quantify the absolute concentration of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin, water, and lipids. It provides quantitative and functional information on the microvasculature related to tissue perfusion, metabolic changes, and indicators of tissue damage.
Background: - Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare, poorly understood and particularly aggressive form of breast cancer. - Three characteristics of IBC tumors their rapid progression, their extensive formation of new blood vessels, and the fact that these characteristics are present from the inception of the tumor make it an ideal model for studying factors associated with tumor aggressiveness. - This study is a collaboration among several institutions in the United States and North Africa that have extensive epidemiological experience and experience with IBC. Objectives: - To understand what causes certain types of breast conditions, including IBC. Eligibility: - Women 18 years of age and older with IBC and non-IBC and healthy women volunteers are eligible. Women who have had a previous diagnosis of any kind of breast cancer are excluded. Design: - Participants complete a questionnaire providing information about their background, including medical and reproductive history, family health history and lifestyle habits and undergo the following additional procedures: - Height, weight, hip and chest measurements. - Saliva sample collection to measure biological factors that may be related to breast conditions. - Breast examination and, if permission is given, photographs of affected breast. - Analysis of biopsied tissue for genetic and biochemical factors.
