Efficacy of Adipose Tissue Derived Stem Cells for the Treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcers

The aim of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of uncultured adipose derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and cultured adipose derived stem cells (ASCs) both supplemented with platelet rich plasma (PRP) to treat chronic diabetic foot ulcers. It will increase the pragmatic potential of both types of cells as PRP is rich in survival and chemotactic factors. Moreover, the autologous nature of the proposed study will ensure safety of its use in diabetic patients and will unveil the more effective therapeutic option for treatment of foot ulcer wounds.

Postprandial Glycemia and Satiety of Meals With Potatoes, With and Without Protein

The proposed study aims to simulate a meal eaten at home, where meals will provide a fixed amount of protein from beef or vegetarian substitute "meat" balls with ad libitum access to one of mashed potatoes, full-fat fries, or pasta. Postprandial glycemia (PPG), insulin, active ghrelin, satiety, amino acid response and food intake (FI) at the meal and again 3h later (after an ad libitum pizza meal) will be measured. In addition, post-meal PPG and satiety will be measured for one hour after the second meal.

Investigating the Relationship Between Nocturnal Glucose Levels and Motion During Sleep

In this study the investigators will explore whether the motion during sleep of people with diabetes changes as a function of the blood glucose levels. The motion will be assessed with a radar sensor, a thermal camera, and wrist worn smartwatches. Additionally, participants will answer a short daily questionnaire. Data will be collected for 10 days and analyzed at the end of the study.

Effect of Sago-based Product on Glycaemic and Lipid Control in Diabetes

This will be a parallel, randomised, double-blind, controlled trial. Upon successful screening, subjects will be randomised to either intervention arm or control arm in a ratio of 1:1. The subjects will consume either a drink containing 25g of Sarawak sago starch (intervention) or 25g of corn starch (control) in approximately 200mL of water, two times a day, before lunch and dinner for 12 weeks, in addition to a standardised dietary counselling for diabetes given by the hospital dietitian at baseline. The study endpoints will be evaluated after 12 weeks of starch consumption.

Effect of Nutrition Education Groups in the Treatment of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Every year there is an increase in people with diabetes all over the world. Because it is a disease associated with several comorbidities and is increasing, there is a need for more effective treatments. Lifestyle changes combined with medication are the best strategies for the treatment and reduction of comorbidities. Therefore, the present study posits the hypothesis that the integration of nutritional education groups into standard treatment, within a nutrition-specialized outpatient clinic, may yield additional enhancements in health parameters among patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The driving force behind this research lies in the pursuit of more effective strategies to enhance glycemic control, diminish the risk of complications, and elevate the overall quality of life for these patients. Our motivation stems from a commitment to base our interventions on scientific evidence and strive towards meaningful improvements in diabetes management outcomes. A randomized clinical trial will be conducted with adult patients with a previous diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Patients will be divided into two groups (intervention: nutritional education added the usual care; and control: usual care). The outcomes analyzed will be: glycemic control, lipid profile, body mass and dynapenia obesity, blood pressure values, eating behavior, diabetes complications and adherence to recommendations.

Anhydroglucitol in Children With Type 1 Diabetes

The investigators will measure blood levels of 1,5-anhydroglucitol in children with type 1 diabetes and correlate them with parameters related to functional beta-cell mass in diabetic patients. The values will be compared to those obtained in healthy volunteers. Children with newly diagnosed diabetes as well as children with longstanding disease will be included. The aim of the study is to test the validity of 1,5-anhydroglucitol as a novel biomarker of beta-cell mass and function in type 1 diabetes.
