Impact of Removable Cast Walker Design on Usability for Patients With Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Within their lifetime, over 30% of people living with diabetes will develop a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), many of which will never heal and may require amputation. Removable cast walkers (RCWs) are commonly prescribed to offload (treat) DFUs. While RCWs are prescribed to be worn during all weight bearing activities, adherence to this prescription is low. This is a serious concern given that low adherence predicts poor DFU healing. This study will provide pilot/feasibility data to inform a larger clinical trial to evaluate the impact of existing RCW designs on adherence and DFU healing. We will also quantify the effect of RCW form on biomechanical and self-reported measures related to usability. Our working hypothesis is that healing outcomes with a given RCW will be predicted by biomechanical and self-reported measures of RCW usability, with the predictive relationship partly explained by the effect of these measures on adherence.

Teaching Method With Simulation in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Management

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus is one of the common risk factors of pregnancy and occurs for the first time during pregnancy. It adversely affects maternal and fetal health and causes an increase in morbidity and mortality rates. In this context, it is very important to identify possible risks for GDM, plan, implement and evaluate initiatives, provide emergency crisis management in a short time without damage, and increase the self-confidence of midwives. In recent years, interest in simulation methods and skill acquisition training in midwifery education has increased. Research; In the management of GDM, to increase the satisfaction and self-confidence level of midwifery students in learning, to evaluate the simulation design and educational effectiveness, it was planned to use the scenario-based near-realistic simulation method in the form of randomized control-intervention quantitatively, and in qualitative design to evaluate the students' views on the method and educational effectiveness. The research will make it easier for midwifery students to intervene with the patient in a shorter time, with confidence and with sufficient clinical skills, and patient safety will be increased. In addition, it will allow the reduction of erroneous clinical practices and malpractices. This study aims to evaluate the satisfaction and self-confidence status of midwifery students and the educational effectiveness of the scenario-based simulation method with high closeness to reality in GDM management and to examine the opinions about this method to fill the gap in the literature.

Evidence for Health Improvement in People With Diabetes Using One Touch & Partner Solutions

ECLIPSE will evaluate the clinical and economic value of OneTouch Solutions in a real world study design. OneTouch Solutions describes a selection of devices and health and wellness solutions that people with diabetes (PWDs) can access online via OneTouch Solutions (Cecelia Health, Fitbit, Noom or Welldoc, each in combination with OneTouch Verio Reflect® blood glucose meter and the OneTouch Reveal® mobile app (or Welldoc app for the Welldoc arm)). ECLIPSE is a large parallel arm digital health study combining advanced blood glucose monitoring solutions with a choice of four different health and wellness applications or services. There are four unique study arms that will run in parallel over one year. The primary (A1c) endpoint for each study arm will be after 6 months and subjects will continue to use the interventions for a full year to generate data on sustained engagement with these products and services, and to collect healthcare utilization and health insurance claims information. Each study arm will differ to some degree in terms of patient baseline demographics (since subjects self-select their own app/intervention) and the experience per arm will be unique, and therefore each study arm will be analysed separately in terms of endpoints and outcomes.

Digital, Blended Lifestyle Intervention for Type 2 Diabetes Remission

410 Dutch type 2 diabetes patients will be randomized using a 5:1 ratio to intervention group versus control, to a lifestyle intervention program given via a mobile application and digital platform. Active participants will undergo diabetyping, where blood glucose and c-peptide responses to a glucose challenge are measured, and be recommended to follow a calorie-restricted (minimum 500 kcal deficit) low-carbohydrate, or restricted carbohydrate (120g) Mediterranean diet and customized exercise program for a period of 24 weeks. Individuals will then be followed for a period of 2 years following the intervention.
