CBT for Anxiety Sensitivity vs. Disorder-specific CBT: An RCT

Adults with high anxiety sensitivity (AS) and a mental health diagnosis of anxiety, depression, or posttraumatic stress will be recruited and will be randomly assigned to either transdiagnostic cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for AS or disorder-specific CBT for their primary mental health problem. The study outcomes - AS, anxiety, mood, and substance use symptoms, and functional impairment - will be assessed at pre-and post-treatment and 6 and 12 months post-treatment via standardized self-report measures completed by participants and a standardized diagnostic interview.

The Experience of Older Adults Facing Depression for the First Time in Old Age

Analysis of recent studies show that researchers find it hard to distinguish between Late Onset Depression, a first diagnosed major depressive episode which occurs at old age, and Early Onset Depression, a depressive episode at old age with a history of previous episodes. Since current data, about the phenomenology and etiology of Late Onset Depression, lake conicity it is unclear whether this phenomena should be considered as a distinct subtype of depression. Nevertheless, the wide spread assumption is that Late Onset Depression has a stronger correlation with brain damage and environmental risk factors such as the common losses at old age and weaker correlation with family history and genetics when compared to Early Onset. Although many researchers consider brain damage to have the main contribution to the emerge of Late Onset Depression, the fact that depression has a negative effect on one's health supports the claim that it might be the result and not the rick factor. Since Late Onset Depression correlates with the common losses at old age, the investigators propose that an existential approach that deals with one's meaning, freedom, responsibly and death, might be more appropriate. Thus, the investigators ask how do older adults experience depression which they face for the first time in old age? Current study will seek to understand older adults' experience of Late Onset depression through existential paradigm by using a semi constructed interview.

Comparing Thinking Skills for Work (TSW)Home Practice Program With Traditional TSW Program

The purpose of this study is to determine if using a tablet computer, which is a very small, easy-to-carry computer, to practice thinking exercises at home will help improve your attention, memory, and problem solving abilities. All the participants will receive training in the thinking skills for work program. But in order to determine the effect of tablet use for home practice, half of the participants will be given a tablet to practice the thinking exercises at home. All participants will be receiving vocational rehabilitation and have a goal of getting a job.

A 7-year Assessment on Subject Understanding of ZYBAN/ WELLBUTRIN Associated Risks

Branded bupropion hydrochloride products including ZYBAN and WELLBUTRIN range are approved for the treatment of smoking cessation and depressive disorders respectively. The Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for ZYBAN was initially approved in 2010 and consists of a Medication Guide and a timetable for REMS assessments submission at 18 months, 3 years and 7 years from the date of initial approval of REMS. The present study is a 7-year REMS assessment to evaluate subjects' understanding of the potential serious risk of neuropsychiatric adverse events associated with the use of ZYBAN, WELLBUTRIN, WELLBUTRIN SR, and WELLBUTRIN XL. The assessment will be a 20-minutes Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior (KAB) survey and will be conducted among approximately 125 subjects currently using or who have filled a prescription for a branded bupropion product for smoking cessation within the 6 months prior to survey administration. ZYBAN, WELLBUTRIN, WELLBUTRIN SR, and WELLBUTRIN XL are registered trade marks of the GSK group of companies.

ECT Pulse Amplitude and Medial Temporal Lobe Engagement

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) remains the gold-standard treatment for patients with depressive episodes. During a typical four-week ECT series, most depressive episodes will respond to treatment and people will improve their level of functioning (return to work or family). Independent of the antidepressant effect of ECT, many patients experience transient memory impairment. This investigation will examine the impact of one ECT parameter (pulse amplitude or current) on brain changes (structure of connections within the brain) and clinical outcomes. The goal of this investigation is to determine the optimal parameter for an individual patient that will maintain the clinical response (reduce depression severity) and minimize side effects (eliminate memory issues related to treatment).
