Clinical Performance of Chairside CAD/CAM Restorations

This investigation will be a longitudinal clinical trial to study the long-term clinical performance of a resin cement for chairside CAD/CAM restorations. Lithium disilicate chairside CAD/CAM onlays will be adhesively bonded using a selective enamel etch technique with an adhesive. Full contour zirconia crowns will be cemented using a self-adhesive resin cement.

Functional Evaluation of Ceramic Onlay Restorations With Different Preparation Designs

Tooth preparation designs for posterior ceramic restorations have been based on traditional cast metal restoration designs, but with more occlusal tooth reduction and with a slightly increased taper. These preparations may involve the removal of considerable tooth structure. As more structure is removed, higher tooth strain and lower fracture resistance may occur.5 The increased tooth structure loss may increase cuspal flexure, thereby reducing the tooth fracture resistance, or open the restoration-tooth interface . However, it has been demonstrated that cusp recovery results in fewer failures, likely increasing the longevity of posterior ceramic restorations. Recently, minimally invasive cavity preparations for posterior indirect restorations were demonstrated to present the benefit of conservation of tooth structure, as well as improved stress distribution. However, the performance of posterior restoration is also material dependent. Due to the continuous advancements in dental ceramics and innovative manufacturing techniques. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical functional performance of ceramic onlay restorations with butt joint preparation design and compare them to shoulder preparation design.

Effect of Trait Anxiety in Women on Oral Health Status and Oral Health Care-Seeking Behavior

Trait anxiety is the tendency of an individual to perceive environmental stimuli such as different events and situations as threatening; it's stable and reflects how an individual generally feels. In 2015, it was estimated that 3.6% of the population lived with anxiety disorders globally, i.e. approximately 264 million people lived with anxiety disorders worldwide of which 31.36 million resided in the Eastern Mediterranean region, that's to say, 10% of the global number of anxiety cases. Moreover, females were more affected than males in a proportion of 4.6% as opposed to 2.6% respectively. The prevalence of anxiety has increased by 14.9% from 2005 to 2015. In addition, in 2017, approximately 42 million new cases were recorded globally. In Egypt, the total number of anxiety cases were more than 3 million in 2015 thus indicating that 4.2% of the total population lived with anxiety. Anxiety may affect the individual's utilization of dental services and predispose to a delay in seeking dental treatment and thus might compromise the overall oral health. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the effect of trait anxiety on the oral health status of women and determine their behavior towards the utilization of dental services. To our knowledge, no previous research has been conducted to assess such relationship in Egypt.

Pulp Protection in Selective Carious Tissue Removal

Although selective removal of carious tissue to soft dentin (SRCT-S) has been proposed as the standard of care for the management of deep dentin caries, it is unclear whether a cavity liner is necessary. This double blinded randomized controlled clinical trial aims to analyze the behavior of a resin restoration performed after SRCT-S for deep dentin caries, treated either with a Glass Ionomer or only with a Self-Etching Adhesive, in permanent teeth. The study will include 142 restorations allocated to either experimental arm. After 12 and 24 months, restoration survival, pulp response and radiographic lesion progression will be assessed.

The goal of modern dentistry is to manage non-cavitated caries lesions non- invasively through re-mineralization process to prevent the disease progression and improve aesthetics, strength, and function. Re-mineralization is defined as the process that supplies calcium, phosphate and flouride ions from an external source to the tooth to convert ion deposition into crystal voids in demineralized enamel. White spot lesions should be managed using a multifactorial approach. The most important strategy is to prevent demineralization and biofilm formationand use of methodologies for remineralization of lesions . Self-assembling peptide (P11-4) has shown great potential for natural repair of early caries lesions through emerging biomimetic re-mineralization properties. (Takahashi Fet al in 2015) This peptide forms a 3D matrix within demineralized carious lesions areas, which enables novo hydroxyapatite crystal formation facilitating the so-called guided enamel regeneration of the lost enamel structure. The peptide has shown encouraging results as a scaffold for enamel regeneration

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Dental Caries and Growth Parameters in Preschool Children

Untreated dental caries are very common in preschool children. Pain and inflammation due to dental caries have been reported to affect eating and sleeping disorders, affecting growth and development. The aim of this study was to compare the changes in serum IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 levels, height and weight gain before and after treatment in patients with dental caries-related inflammation and pain in preschool children and to compare these children with children without dental caries. Thirty children aged between 3-6 years with dental caries with pulp were identified using ICDAS II and dmft index as the study group.30 children dental caries including pulp, will be included using the same indices as the control group. In the study group, serum IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 levels and anthropometric measurements will be determined before and at the 6th month after treatment. In the control group, serum IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 levels and anthropometric measurements will be determined at the 6th month following the first dental examination. IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and anthropometric measurements will be compared between first dental examination and 6th month values in the study and control groups, and between first dental examination and 6th month time points between the groups.
