The purpose of the study is to assess if the study medication (molnupiravir, MK-4482) will prevent symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults who live with someone with confirmed COVID-19 infection. This is a phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study; half of the study participants will receive molnupiravir twice daily by mouth and the other half will receive a placebo. The primary objectives of the study are to determine if molnupiravir prevents symptomatic COVID-19 disease and to evaluate its safety and tolerability. All participants who develop COVID-19 during the study are still eligible for any COVID-19 treatment recommended by their doctor.
This study will establish benchmarks of TFV-DP concentrations as measures of adherence following daily dosing with Tenofovir Alafenamide (TAF) compared with Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) during pregnancy and postpartum. Study Investigators will recruit from an ongoing observational cohort study in Cape Town, South Africa, PrEP-PP (recruitment ongoing through July, 2021; NIMH R01MH116771; PI Coates & Myer). Findings form this PK sub-study will be used to inform future PrEP in pregnancy and postpartum studies and develop benchmarks of the relative PK between TDF and TAF.
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate non-inferiority (NI) in terms of humoral immune responses after 6 dose levels of Ad26.COV2.S.
The study will enroll up to 27,200 participants in order to demonstrate the efficacy of the active Ad26.RSV.preF-based study vaccine in the prevention of Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) confirmed Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)-mediated Lower Respiratory Tract Disease (LRTD) when compared to placebo in adults aged 60 years and above.
This is a prospective, multicenter cohort study in which the accuracy and the diagnostic yield of the Stool Processing Kit (SPK) in combination with Xpert Ultra MTB/RIF (Ultra) on stool samples will be assessed using a microbiological reference standard and a composite reference standard among children with signs and symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis.
The postpartum PrEP study (PPS) seeks to evaluate how best to improve adherence to PrEP in postpartum women and to evaluate how acceptable it is to offer HIV self tests for the participant and partner, and provide enhanced adherence biofeedback following a urine test of recent PrEP use (measuring tenofovir). The primary outcome is recent PrEP adherence following the intervention. The secondary outcome is HIV testing uptake in participants' partners.
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of bemcentinib as an add-on therapies to standard of care (SoC) in participants hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The global burden and threat of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a major health challenge that undermines social and economic development throughout the world. Cardiovascular disease including acute coronary syndromes (ACS) currently accounts for 17.9 million deaths a year. Low and middle-income countries such as those in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) have undergone a rapid epidemiological transition over the last few decades and now have a burden of disease increasingly dominated by NCDs. The global burden of disease report for 2017 revealed a 71.4% increase in cardiovascular disease in SSA, predicting a large increase in mortality. Unfortunately, reliable population-level data regarding the incidence, prevalence and demographics of ACS in SSA are limited. The investigators propose to set up and conduct a multi-centre, prospective, observational registry to describe the demographics, clinical characteristics, presentation, management and outcomes of patients admitted with ACS in Cape Town and the Garden Route Health District, Western Cape Province, South Africa. The registry is designed to shed insight on the current burden and impact of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in the Western Cape.
Two new male condoms have been developed - one made of synthetic nitrile and the other made of latex graphene. Both new condoms are of the same design as a standard latex male condom. The aim of this study is to evaluate the functional performance of two new male condoms compared to a control latex male condom. Couples enrolled in the study will be asked to use five latex graphene, five synthetic nitrile and five latex male condoms in a randomized type order. Function, safety, and acceptability will be assessed at three follow-up visits approximately one month apart after enrolment.
This trial is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, 2-arm, multicenter trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of C21 versus placebo as add-on to standard of care (SoC) in adult subjects with COVID-19. The trial planned to enroll a total of maximum 300 randomized subjects, 150 per arm (oral C21 100 mg twice a day (BID) or placebo for 14 days) according to the 1:1 randomization.
