This research is studying a new noninvasive device-based therapy called Transcutaneous Electrical Acustimulation (TEA) to learn about its safety and how well it works as a treatment of pain in chronic pancreatitis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential of TEA to treat abdominal pain in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP). The study hypothesizes that TEA can be used as a non-pharmaceutical opioid-free approach to treat pain in chronic pancreatitis.
This clinical trial tests how well cognitive behavioral cancer stress management (CBCSM) group sessions work to decrease psychological distress in cancer patients. CBCSM teaches patients how to recognize and reduce the impacts of cancer associated stress on the biological, psychological, and social life domains.
Background: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a problematic pattern of alcohol use accompanied by clinically significant medical consequences. Medications can help most people reduce their drinking, but the number is limited, and additional treatment options are needed. Objective: To test if a medication named Semaglutide is safe and may reduce alcohol drinking in people with AUD. Who can participate? All Adults aged 18 or older with AUD might be eligible to participate in the study. What will happen during the study? Participants will visit the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in Baltimore once a week for about 20 weeks (5 months). Each visit will last between 2 and 6 hours depending on the tasks scheduled for that visit. Participants will be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to receive either Semaglutide or placebo. A placebo looks just like a real drug but contains no medicine. The study medication is given as a shot under the skin each week. Participants will undergo different tests throughout the study: They will give blood, urine, and saliva samples. They will engage in self-paced behavioral therapy on a computer. They will answer questions about their mood, diet, alcohol drinking and craving, tobacco use, etc. They will taste several sweet liquids and tell their preferences. They will sit in a bar-like room and be exposed to cues that might make them feel the urge to eat food or drink alcohol. They will wear a virtual reality headset that creates a cafeteria setting. They will walk the virtual cafeteria and choose food and drinks from a buffet. They will have a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan to take pictures of their brain. During the scans, participants will be shown pictures of alcohol-containing drinks, food, and other items.They will perform tasks on a computer screen. Participants will have a follow-up visit about 7 weeks after their last shot.
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of mosunetuzumab when given together with polatuzumab vedotin and lenalidomide in treating patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) that has come back after a period of improvement (relapsed) or that has not responded to previous treatment (refractory). Mosunetuzumab and polatuzumab vedotin are monoclonal antibodies that may interfere with the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Polatuzumab, linked to a toxic agent called vedotin, attaches to CD79B positive cancer cells in a targeted way and delivers vedotin to kill them. Lenalidomide may stimulate or suppress the immune system in different ways and stop cancer cells from growing and by preventing the growth of new blood vessels that cancer cells need to grow. Giving mosunetuzumab with polatuzumab vedotin and lenalidomide may work better in treating patients with relapsed/refractory DLBCL.
There is an increased risk of diastolic heart failure in post menopausal women. Estrogen plays a positive role in regulating molecular pathways in heart remodeling. Such pathways may work through purinergic signaling and its downstream effects on the heart's mitochondrial metabolism and angiogenic response to stress. Loss of estrogen functionality in post menopausal women may account for the increased risk of diastolic heart failure. The investigators will explore said pathways using cardiac tissue obtained from patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous (SC) anifrolumab versus placebo in adult participants with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE).
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the safety and tolerability of anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody (mAb), daratumumab, in combination with KRAS vaccine (Targovax TG-01/Stimulon QS-21) when given with anti-PD-1 (programmed cell death protein 1) mAb (nivolumab) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The main questions it aims to answer are: - How well does daratumumab and nivolumab, when given with a vaccine, control or stop these types of cancer? - How well does participants bodies handle these study drugs? - Does this combination of study drugs help participants live longer? Participants will receive daratumumab, nivolumab with KRAS vaccine and have regular tests and procedures to follow how the participants are doing on these study drugs.
The purpose of this study is to improve diabetes management for patients at Midtown General Internal Medicine Clinic (Aim 1). The clinic offers dedicated diabetes care on certain days with trained providers able to offer dedicated diabetes care. The clinic will also make sure to address other aspects of life and health that may impact an individual's ability to manage their diabetes - food insecurity, housing insecurity, knowing about healthy food, finding ways to exercise, and mental health. The study will also train the medical residents to be able to participate in this dedicated diabetes care (Aim 2).
This study aims to investigate the impact of accelerated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on brain function and behavior in patients with focal hand dystonia. Previous research demonstrated that individualized TMS improved dystonic behavior after one session. Building on this, the current study administers four TMS sessions in a day, with assessments conducted on the same day, two weeks, and twelve weeks after each session. The research involves 10 in-person visits and focuses on functional MRI brain scans and writing behavior analysis. The potential risk of seizures from TMS is mitigated through careful screening, adhering to safety guidelines. The study's main benefit is enhancing dystonic behavior and deepening the understanding of brain changes caused by TMS in focal hand dystonia, paving the way for further advancements in clinical therapy for this condition.
