Is the Degree of Perceived Effort During Resistance Exercise Important for Improvements in Blood Glucose

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the degree of effort during a resistance exercise session on blood glucose levels in individuals with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Do individuals with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus need to perform resistance exercise with a high degree of effort for their blood glucose to improve? - How do they feel (their enjoyment, discomfort) after the sessions with different degrees of effort? Participants will perform 3 situations separated by at least 4 days, after being familiarized with all exercises and procedures: - One control day, when they will not exercise; - A high-effort resistance exercise session; - A low-effort resistance exercise session Researchers will measure blood glucose levels and psychological responses after these situations to see if the effort was important for the improvement of their blood glucose and how effort affected the way they felt after each situation.

Since 1980, the global prevalence of obesity, commonly defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, has doubled. Importantly, high levels of central adiposity (i.e., abdominal fat) is associated with numerous PNI-related sequelae, including increased levels of psychological distress, cognitive deficits, ANS dysfunction, and immune marker abnormalities. To our knowledge, rigorous investigation of chiropractic's impact on psychoneuroimmunological (PNI)-related outcomes in people with high central adiposity is lacking. Based on limited evidence to date, it is plausible that clinically important PNI-related dysfunctions (e.g., heightened stress levels, executive function impairments, dysautonomia, immune dysregulation) common in this population could be ameliorated via chiropractic care.

Longitudinal Neural Fingerprinting of Opioid-use Trajectories

This project aims to collect a densely sampled neuroimaging dataset among individuals receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). MOUD is multiphasic, comprised of medication induction, stabilization, ongoing treatment, and eventual dis-continuation phases. However, with a few small exceptions, existing neuroimaging efforts are almost exclusively single time-point assessments which, by definition, fail to capture these clinically relevant transitions and thus also do not capture individual risk and resilience trajectories. The investigators innovation, the characterization of neurocomputational trajectories during clinically relevant phases of MOUD treatment, will provide unprecedented mechanistic insight into the neurobiological basis of recovery. Once characterized, such trajectories may be used in the identification of specific therapeutic windows for additional intervention (e.g., times of increased neural plasticity) and in the design of novel tailored interventions based on known brain mechanisms (e.g., behavioral therapy, neurostimulation, neurofeedback).
