The Discriminative Ability of the Four Balance Measures for Fall History

The fall rate is increased parallel to the aging process. The early determination and management of falls in older adults are quite crucial to preserve the independence of older adults. In the literature, there are used many measurement tools for predicting fall status. The discriminative ability of these measures is important for the accuracy of the assessment. In this study, four of the most commonly used balance measurement tools will be investigated in terms of the discriminative ability for fall status in the Turkish community-dwelling older adults.

The Impact of Preprocedural Animation About Echocardiography Display and Kaleidoscope Display on Anxiety in Children

Objective: The study was conducted for the purpose of determining the effect of making children aged 5 to 12 years watch a cartoon about echocardiography (ECO) procedure before the procedure and kaleidoscope during the procedure on their anxiety. Material and Method: It is a randomized controlled study. The study was completed with a total of 164 children who came to have an ECO and met the sample selection criteria. There were four groups in the study which were as follows; the group that was made watch a cartoon about the procedure before the procedure, the group that was made watch a kaleidoscope during the procedure, the group that was made watch a cartoon about the procedure before the procedure and a kaleidoscope during the procedure and the control group in which routine applications of clinic were carried out. Results: At the end of the study, it was determined that anxiety scores of the cartoon group, cartoon+kaleidoscope group and the kaleidoscope group were lower during the procedure than before the procedure (p<0,001). In the control group, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the anxiety scores before and during the procedure (p>0,05).

Telerehabilitation in Individuals Over 65 Years of Age Having Social Isolation Due to Coronavirus (Covid-19)

In December 2019, new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) erupted in Wuhan (Hubei, China) and quickly spread from a single city to the entire country in just 30 days and then attracted worldwide attention. COVID-19 causes a large number of deaths due to its occurrence in many cases. This virus caused a total of 549,461 approved cases and 24,887 deaths worldwide. All the countries of the world take some precautions to prevent the spread of this epidemic disease, which WHO declared it as "pandemic". Staying home and social isolation are at the top of these precautions. For this purpose, in Turkey on March 21, 2020, '65 and older individuals began to apply the curfew to individuals with chronic illnesses. However, not leaving the house and social isolation brings with it the limitation of physical activity. Physical activity (PA) is defined by WHO as any bodily movement produced by the contraction of skeletal muscles that increases energy consumption. Recommended PA levels for the elderly (≥65 years) are similar to adults (18 to 64 years old). At the global level, approximately 45% of people over the age of 60 do not meet the recommended level of PA. Studies investigating the relationship between social isolation and health behavior report consistent findings. Individuals with smaller social networks report less healthy diets, excessive alcohol consumption, and less physical activity. The effects of social isolation are related to physical inactivity, smoking and the possibility of having both health risk behaviors together. The decrease in physical performance is associated with the risk of falling, sarcopenia, fragility, decreased quality of life, emotionalization, comorbidity, early death, and increased health care costs. Practical and innovative interventions are needed to reduce the decline in muscle mass, strength and physical performance in the aging population. When today's conditions are evaluated, technology-supported education programs are effective in increasing the motivation for physical activity. The purpose of this study; to evaluate the physical activity level of individuals over the age of 65 who experience social isolation due to the precautions taken in our country to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to investigate the effectiveness of home-based telerehabilitation exercises. It is aimed to use an innovative model based on the digitally supported, home-based exercise program.

The Efficacy Of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization At Lumbar Region Disc Herniations

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization in patients with lomber region disc herniation. 60 patients with lumbar disc herniation between the ages of 30-65 were included in the study. Following the evaluation, the patients were divided into two groups by closed envelope method; control group (n=30) and experimental group (n=30). In both groups, 4 weeks (20 sessions) hot pack (hotpack), conventional transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), therapeutic physical therapy program with therapeutic ultrasound applications were performed. In addition to this program, Instrumental Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) was applied to the experimental group in 12 sessions of 3 times a week. This technique was performed by using stainless steel tools of different sizes and shapes. IASTM treatment was performed (including SWEEP-FAN-BRUSH-SWEEP technique, 45° angle with the skin, by 8-10 repetitions) for the ilicostalis lumborum, priformis, gluteus medius, erector spines, quadratus lumborum muscles, superficial and deep fascia. Depression levels of the patients were evaluated with Beck Depression Scale, before the treatment and after 4 weeks pain severity, VAS pain scale, functional status with Oswestry Scale, quality of life with Short Form-36 (SF- 36) and normal range of motion with goniometer. The results were analyzed by using SPSS v.20 program. In all analyzes, the significance ratio was accepted as p <0.05. At the end of the four-week treatment program, significant improvements were observed in VAS levels, normal joint movements (flexion, extension, right-left lateral flexion, rotation) in both groups (p <0.05). Oswestry and Beck Depression Scale scores showed significant improvement merely in the experimental group compared to the control group (p <0.05). There was no significant difference in VAS values, normal joint motion and Oswestry scale while there was no notable difference in SF-36 and Beck Depression Scale. As a result of the study, it was concluded that IASTM is a more effective method on normal range of motion and functionality in comparison with traditional physiotherapy program in patients with lumbar disc herniation and it can be used as an alternative method in patients during the physiotherapy and rehabilitation program if needed.

Blood Flow Restriction Training in Patients With Shoulder Pain

This study was planned to investigate the effect of blood flow restriction exercise training on shoulder muscle strength and muscle thickness, and to determine the change in pain and symptoms in patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy. Patients in the study group will perform the rehabilitation exercises with a pneumatic cuff and blood flow restricted. The patients in the control group will perform the same exercise program without restricting blood flow.

The pain after clavicle fracture surgery may be managed with combined superficial cervical plexus-interscalene block and recently clavipectoral fascia plane block (CPB). CPB was defined by Valdes in 2017 firstly. It may be used for postoperative analgesia after clavicle surgery. CPB may be an alternative to interscalene brachial plexus block. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of the US-guided CPB and ISCB for postoperative analgesia management after clavicle surgery. The primary aim is to compare perioperative and postoperative opioid consumption and the secondary aim is to evaluate postoperative pain scores (VAS), adverse effects related with opioids (allergic reaction, nausea, vomiting).

This short-term, randomized, placebo-controlled, investigator-initiated trial aims to establish metabolic improvements in NAFLD subjects by dietary supplementation with cofactors N-acetylcysteine, L-carnitine tartrate, nicotinamide riboside and serine. Concomitant use of pivotal metabolic cofactors via simultaneous dietary supplementation will stimulate three different pathways to enhance hepatic β-oxidation and this study's hypothesis is that this will result in decreased amount of fat in the liver.
