A rapid oxygen desaturation has observed in patients with COVID-19 which have seriously respiratory failure and most of them have intubated and connected to the mechanical ventilator. Finally, many of them have died during the process. ORF8 and superficial glycoproteins of a novel coronavirus bind to porphyrin on haemoglobin molecules and inhibit heme metabolism in an erythrocyte. However, it is not clarify the effects of the novel coronavirus on mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular of haemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC).
Dementia, a part of geriatric syndrome, is characterized by the deterioration of multiple cognitive domains such as memory, language, orientation, learning and personality as a result of damage to the central nervous system and in terms prognosis persistent and often progressive clinical condition. In the epidemiological studies it is stated that the number of the dementia affected people approximately 2 times in every 20 years. In several studies, it has been mentioned that cognitive disorders affect individuals' motor function such as gait and postural responses. These effects lead to a vicious circle by causing immobilization of individuals due to a decrease in cognitive functions in addition to immobilization due to aging. The lack of pharmacological therapies to change the prognosis of dementia, emphasizes physical activity methods due to its neurological contributions. However, due to the fact that conventional exercise programs are seen as boring in terms of elderly individuals and the exercise attendance rates are low, the virtual reality (VR) training have been preferred recently. To the best of the investigator's knowledge, there is no study examining the effect of different virtual reality trainings on the spatio-temporal characteristics of the gait, posture and balance. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of different virtual reality trainings on these parameters.
The development of sleep wake cycles is indicative of child's neurocognitive functions. Caffeine therapy is commonly used in neonatal intensive care units for treatment of apnea of prematurity (AOP), to reduce mechanical ventilation, and improve the success of extubation. In addition, it is suggested to be associated with positive long-term outcomes on pulmonary function and neurodevelopment. However, it is still not clear how caffeine therapy affects the sleep architecture and neurodevelopment of preterm infants. Furthermore, optimal dosing and timing of caffeine therapy is controversial. We aimed to evaluate the effects of caffeine therapy on sleep architecture and neurodevelopment in preterm infants during the first year of life. A prospective observational case-control study will be conducted. Forty preterm infants aged between 28 to 34 gestational weeks admitted to the Marmara University Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) from May 2020 to May 2021 will be included. Infants with neonatal risk factors for poor neurodevelopmental outcomes will be excluded. Duration, timing and cumulative dosage of caffeine therapy will be calculated. Follow up outcome for neurodevelopment and sleep architecture of preterm infants who received caffeine therapy will be compared with those who did not receive caffeine therapy. Sleep and activity behavior recorded by actigraphy, sleep diary and polysomnography at 6, and 12 months corrected age will be compared to noncaffeine group. Neurodevelopment will be assessed by neurological examination defined by Hammersmith, Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-2), and Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development.
Interest in low fresh gas flow anesthesia has increased in recent years. The high standard of anesthesia machines, the presence of monitors that continuously and thoroughly analyze the anesthetic gas composition, and the increased knowledge of the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of inhalation anesthetics greatly facilitated the safe administration of low-flow anesthesia.Low-flow anesthesia can be mentioned for most patients if modern re-breathing systems are used but only if the fresh gas flow rate is reduced below 2 lt / min. In 1974, Virtue was defined as a technique called minimal flow, in which the fresh gas flow was not exceeded 0.5 lt / min. Although there are too many applications for low current in the literature, there is little literature for use in one lung.
Surgical removal of impacted third molars is one of the most frequent procedures carried out in the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics. There are a varying range of postoperative complications including pain, edema and swelling. Antibiotics, analgesics and mouthwashes are usually prescribed for the treatment of these complications. Patients undergoing impacted third molar surgery are frequently prescribed chlorhexidine mouthwashes with/without benzydamine hydrochloride. However, there has been a search for alternatives with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic properties as part of the oral care routine following surgical removal of impacted third molars. Thus, this multicenter study was aimed to evaluate the effects of chlorhexidine mouthwashes with different boric acid concentrations (%0.1, %0.5, %1, %1.5, %2 and %2.5), and boric acid mouthwash on the postoperative complications and compared with chlorhexidine mouthwash after the removal of impacted wisdom teeth.
Asthma, which are one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality both in the world and in our country, constitute a very serious social and economic burden. An estimated 300 million people suffer from asthma worldwide, which is a major public health problem. Asthma is complex and heterogeneous chronic airway diseases that require a multifaceted approach. In asthma, small airways represent key regions of airflow obstruction. Although small airway dysfunction is known in chronic airway diseases, the importance of small airway dysfunction on disease control, exacerbations and quality of life, and the importance of taking place among treatable targets is not clear. Thus, there is an unmet need to assess its role in the control of the disease. Therefore, our primary aim in the study is to determine the frequency of small airway dysfunction measured by impulse oscillometry in Asthma patients. Our secondary aim is to evaluate the role of small airway dysfunction in disease severity, disease phenotypes, disease control, quality of life and its effect on predicting the risk of exacerbation and its role among treatable targets in Asthma.
This study is a single blind semi-experimental study. Aim: To investigate the effect of standardized care on peristomal skin complications and quality of life in colorectal cancer patients undergoing ostomy surgery. H1: Standard stoma care which is established evidence-based guides and complication algorithm, reduces peristomal skin complications in patients with colorectal cancer and an ostomy. H2: Standard stoma care which is established evidence-based guides and complication algorithm, increases the quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer and an ostomy.
The aim of the investigator's study is to investigate whether postoperative inspiratory muscle training and resistance exercise training has an effect on functional capacity, respiratory functions, respiratory muscle strength and endurance in patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
Novel Coronavirus is reported to cause COVID-19, recently. It's known that this virus uses ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) 2 receptors to enter human cells and also blocks the activity of ACE 2. Upon these data the investigators hypothesize that, mortal hyper-inflammation state which is shown in COVID-19 cases, can be a result of angiotensin peptide (1-7) deficiency. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the possible effect of angiotensin peptide (1-7) supplementation on treatment of COVID-19 cases.
