A Study to Evaluate the Efficacy, Safety, Pharmacokinetics, and Pharmacodynamics of Subcutaneous Emicizumab in Participants From Birth to 12 Months of Age With Hemophilia A Without Inhibitors

This is a Phase IIIb, multicenter, open-label, single-arm study of prophylactic emicizumab in previously untreated and minimally treated patients at study enrollment from birth to ≤12 months of age with severe hemophilia A (intrinsic factor VIII [FVIII] level <1%) without FVIII inhibitors. The study is designed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of emicizumab administered at 3 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg) once every 2 weeks (Q2W) for 52 weeks. After 1 year of treatment, participants will continue to receive emicizumab (1.5 mg/kg once every week [QW], 3 mg/kg Q2W or 6 mg/kg once every 4 weeks [Q4W]) over a 7-year long-term follow-up period under this study frame.

Perceptions of Orthopedic Prespecialists on Patient-Specific 3D Models.

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) patient-specific anatomical model guidance is a reliable tool in obtaining accurate bony cuts, precise implant placement, and satisfactory surgical results. These can enhance surgeon's understanding of their patients' patho-anatomy also helping in precise preoperative planning. So, the hypothesis of this study is that, in the training of orthopaedic residency, 3D printed models reflecting the patient's individual process provide a a foresight and a perception of the bone pathologies and osseous relationships before orthopaedic intervention. Methods: In this study, the investigators displayed our experience of creating realistic 3D models in orthopaedic surgical case scenarios to evaluate the perceptions of fellows in orthopaedic surgeon training. The investigators based our study on the comparision of the perception of residents who were presented with four-step carousel consisting of different scenarios as trauma (calcaneal fracture), deformity (hallux valgus), tumoral mass (sacral chondrosarcoma), and reconstructive procedure (multidisciplinary cancer surgery). The X-ray images, computed tomography (CT), and 1:1 solid models of the cases were included in each step. The orthopaedic residents were asked to compare their perception level of the actual scenarios in evaluating the effectiveness of each tool in terms of perceiving the orthopaedic problem, understanding the bone pathology, classification of diagnosis and preoperative data planning.

The Effects of Point-of-care Ultrasonography

Background: When used with standard diagnostic testing, point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) might improve the proportion of patients admitted with chest pain (CP) who are correctly diagnosed, decrease length of stay (LOS) in emergency department (ED) and costs. We therefore assessed POCUS for the heart, lungs, aortic, hepatobiliary and deep vein in addition to the usual initial diagnostic testing in this patient population. Methods: In a prospective, randomised-controlled, parallel-group trial in the ED at Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital, Turkey, patients (≥18 years) with CP were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to a standard diagnostic strategy (control group) or to standard diagnostic strategy supplemented with POCUS (POCUS group).

To investigate changes in refractive errors and evaluate clinical outcomes of strabismus surgery in patients with both amblyopia and partially refractive esotropia (PAET).Amblyopic patients with PAET were enrolled. Non-amblyopic patients with full refractive accommodative esotropia (RAET) were included in the study as a control group. Preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spherical equivalent (SE), astigmatism, stereoacuity and deviations at near and distance were evaluated and statistically compared in the patient group. The mean BCVA, SE, astigmatism were compared between the patient and the control groups.

Some authors suggest that EA has beneficial effects for postoperative outcome and hospital stay, whereas others have reported that the role of EA in the modern perioperative care of patients undergoing open colorectal surgery has been limited. Therefore, the investigators aimed to investigate the effect of EA on postoperative outcome, particularly postoperative ileus and hospital stay in patients with colorectal surgery.

It is difficult to measure the several levels of intracranial pressure during abdominal surgery, and direct monitoring with intracranial devices is often impossible. Measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) via ultrasonography has been developed as an alternative method for evaluating intracranial pressure. Increased intracranial pressure may cause in expanding of the optic nerve sheath and may increase the diameter. Therefore, measuring the diameter of the optic nerve sheath via ultrasonography is considered as a non-invasive, easy-to-apply and reliable method to evaluate intracranial pressure.

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by partial insulin deficiency or insulin resistance in peripheral tissue. Type 2 diabetes, which has a very high prevalence worldwide, is a socially serious health problem. Exercise has beneficial effects on the glycemic profile, such as decreased glycemic hemoglobin (HbA1c) level, increased maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) and improved insulin sensitivity in diabetes patients. When the literature is examined, it is seen that exercise is also effective in improving metabolic health. Although the metabolic benefits of exercise have been shown, there is no study of which type of exercise is more beneficial in what time of day in individuals with Type 2 diabetes. Circadian rhythm plays an important role in clarifying this issue because the circadian rhythm is impaired in the glucose metabolism of individuals with type 2 diabetes.The aim of this study is to investigate which exercise is more effective in which time period for individuals with Type 2 diabetes
