Epicardial Fat Thickness and Inflammation in People With Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity

Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is a type of visceral adipose tissue (VAT), functioning as a metabolically active endocrine organ and suggested to play an important role in the progression of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Obesity and MetS are commonly associated with an inflammatory status. The aim of the study was to evaluate the association of echocardiographically measured epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and inflammation, on the basis of c-reactive protein (CRP) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), with MetS and its components in people with obesity. A total of 104 patients with body mass index (BMI)≥30 kg/m² were enrolled to the study. In all participants, EFT was measured with transthoracic echocardiography at end-systole. The patients were then classified into two groups according to whether they had MetS or not. EFT, clinical and biochemical parameters were compared between the two groups

AİM:The aim of this study is to control the fears and anxieties of Type 2 diabetics in insulin injection and blood glucose measurement with motivational videos and Ice applications to be applied with virtual reality glasses. Material and Methods: The research is designed as a semi-experimental model with pretest-posttest control groups. The research will be carried out in the endocrine services located in Turgut Özal Medical Center in Malatya province. The universe of the research will be 2113 Type 2 diabetes patients who are being treated in the hospital specified on the specified dates, who are injecting insulin and following blood sugar. According to the analysis of the power, the sample of the research is composed of an experiment effect of 0.5% with bilateral significance level, 95% confidence interval determined with 5% error level, the experiment group to be applied with 80% Reality with 80% representation power, and the control group with 80 ice application. will create a total of 240 Type 2 diabetes patients.In the collection of the data, the Participant Presentation Form developed by the researcher, Diabetes Fear of Self Injecting and Self-testing Questionnaire-D-FISQ, State Anxiety Scale and VAS will be used.

Methods: This randomized experimental study with placebo and control groups was conducted with 175 infants assigned to the ShotBlocker® (n = 35), ShotBlocker®-placebo (n = 35), sucrose (n = 35), sucrose-placebo (n = 35) and control (n = 35) groups. The pain levels of the infants were determined by blind assessors (nurses, parents, and observer) using the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) before and during vaccination.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD) on pain, quality of life and psychological status. A total of one hundred twenty people participated in the study, sixty with TMJD symptoms (according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders) and sixty without TMJD symptoms. The severity of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and headache was assessed using a visual analog scale (VAS), pain threshold using an algometer, anxiety and depression levels with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and the quality of life level was assessed by Short Form-36 (SF-36). Treatment of TMJD with appropriate therapies and psychological support techniques may reduce TMJD symptoms and improve patients' quality of life and psychological status.
