NCT ID: NCT04914780 Completed - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

The Effect of Training Given by Mobile Application to Women Undergoing Breast Surgery

Start date: June 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In a metanalysis study examining the effects of mobile health applications on the quality of life and psychological outcomes of patients with breast cancer, it was concluded that the quality of life increased, the level of self-efficacy was high, and the perceived stress, depression and anxiety were low compared to standard care. It has been stated that there is a need for well-designed randomized studies on the subject due to the heterogeneity of the study results. In a study examining the effects of exercise training given by mobile health application and traditional brochure on physical function, physical activity and quality of life in breast cancer patients, improvement was observed in both groups, but no significant difference was found between the groups. In the study conducted to evaluate the effect of the information transmitted via the mobile application on preoperative breast cancer patients, it was concluded that control patients who did not have access to additional information provided by the mobile application had significantly lower anxiety and depression scores at seven days before surgery compared to the intervention group, and thus, when less information was accessed. It has been reported that anxiety decreases. Surgical treatments applied to women with breast cancer, although there are different treatment options depending on the stage of the disease and the results of the diagnostic procedures; breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy / tumorectomy, partial mastectomy, segmental mastectomy / quadranectomy) and non-breast-conserving surgery (simple mastectomy, bilateral mastectomy, skin-sparing mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, radical mastectomy). When the literature is examined; It was stated that negative emotions such as body image deterioration, decreased self-esteem, hopelessness, guilt, anxiety, and depression were experienced less in patients who underwent breast conserving surgery (BCS) compared to patients who received other breast surgical treatments. Compared to other patients, those who undergo BCS adapt better to the treatment and care process. There are some disadvantages for patients in BCS, which is preferred in the early stage, which aims to protect the integrity of the breast. Some of the disadvantages are the long-term treatment process, the expensive treatments and the difficult access for those living far from the radiotherapy treatment, which is mostly applied in large centers. In addition to these disadvantages, women experience intense psychosocial problems, symptoms experienced during the treatment process negatively affect their compliance with treatment and quality of life. In order to improve the affected quality of life, besides nursing interventions specially planned for each patient, trainings that will facilitate their adaptation to the disease during the diagnosis and treatment process should be planned.

NCT ID: NCT04914637 Completed - Pain, Chronic Clinical Trials

Does Dry Needling Affect Treatment Outcomes of Interlaminar Epidural Steroid Injection in Cervical Disc Herniation?

Start date: June 4, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Chronic neck pain is among the most frequently seen chronic painful conditions. As an important cause of disability, chronic neck pain is a musculoskeletal disorder that negatively affects quality of life. Cervical disc herniation is one of the leading causes of chronic neck pain and conservative methods such as exercise and pain medications are used first in the treatment. In patients unresponsive to conservative treatment, epidural steroid injection is successfully and frequently used treatment option. Epidural steroid injection in the cervical region can be applied with two approaches: interlaminar or transforaminal. Myofascial trigger point characterized by intramuscular taut band and hypersensitive spots is a condition in which central and peripheral sensitization play a role in the pathophysiology. There are underlying myofascial trigger points in many etiologies that cause chronic neck pain. Trigger points can increase the severity of pain and in some cases they can be the main factor in the etiology of pain. Therefore, the presence of myofascial trigger points should be investigated, even if another cause is detected in chronic neck pain. Dry needling is an easily applicable and effective treatment option in myofascial trigger point. Although it is well known that myofascial trigger points frequently accompany cervical disc herniation, their effect on treatment outcomes has not been investigated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of dry needling for trigger points on the treatment results of interlaminar epidural steroid injection in patients diagnosed with cervical disc herniation.

NCT ID: NCT04912752 Completed - Migraine Clinical Trials

Copy Number Variation in CHRNA7 Gene in Migraine and Gene Expression

Start date: April 5, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Migraine is a common and possible hereditary disease. Copy number variation (CNV) is a phenomenon in which parts of the genome are repeated and the number of repeats in the genome varies between individuals in the human population. The CHRNA7 gene has a major role in the neuropsychiatric phenotypes observed in patients. The 15q13.3 gain/loss variation in this gene may be associated with migraine.

NCT ID: NCT04911673 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Effectiveness of Dark Chocolate and Music in Dysmenorrhea

Start date: January 30, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is a pain that occurs in the menstrual period without pathological pelvic disorder. Excessive prostaglandin release causes uterine contraction and leads to uterine hypoxia and ischemia, which results in extreme abdominal cramps and pain. Music therapy is one of the complementary treatment methods in the management of pain for PD which is an intervention that is not expensive and has no side effects. Another complementary treatment method is for PD is chocolate. In the literature; there have a few studies about the effect of the music and dark chocolate on the primary dysmenorrhea but no studies have been conducted to evaluate the effects of the music and dark chocolate on PD. The following is the protocol for a randomized controlled clinical trial, where an experimental group 1 listened to a 30-minute song, an experimental group 2 ate dark chocolate and a control group had no intervention for the same time and conditions. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of dark chocolate and music on PD. This pain measured through a 10 cm Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) in nursing students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Manisa Celal Bayar University, Manisa, Turkey. Additionally, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used to assess the trait and state anxiety.

NCT ID: NCT04911283 Completed - Spinal Degeneration Clinical Trials

Brucella Serology and History of Brucellosis in Patients With Modic Changes Type 1

Start date: May 1, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Objective: This study aims to examine Brucella serology and history of brucellosis in patients with lumbar Modic changes (MCs) type 1, considering results from cross-sectional and case-control comparisons. Design: In comparative cross-sectional design, MCs type 1 patients (study group) and MCs type 2 patients (comparator group) were examined in terms of Brucella serology by using agglutination with Coombs test. In addition, in comparative case-control design, both of the MCs groups and age/sex-matched healthy controls were investigated for their medical history regarding brucellosis.
