Reiki for Cancer: Pain, Anxiety, and Stress

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effects of Reiki, Sham Reiki, and Progressive Relaxation Exercise on the levels of pain, anxiety, and stress in cancer patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Question 1: The effect of Reiki applied to cancer patients on the level of pain within the time series is higher in favor of the intervention group. - Question 2: The effect of Reiki applied to cancer patients on the level of anxiety within the time series is higher in favor of the intervention group. - Question 3: The effect of Reiki applied to cancer patients on cortisol levels within the time series is higher in favor of the intervention group. - Question 4: The effect of Reiki applied to cancer patients on the level of stress within the time series is higher in favor of the intervention group. - Participants have answered the questions in the Individual Identification Form, Visual Comparison Scale, State Anxiety Scale and Perceived Stress Scale and serum cortisol levels were evaluated in the pretest. - Afterwards, the patients in the intervention group received Reiki for four consecutive days, the patients in the placebo group received Sham Reiki, and the patients in the control group received Progressive Relaxation Exercise. - The patients in the experimental group received Reiki to the seven chakra regions and additional areas with pain for a total duration of 25-30 minutes for four days, with an average of three minutes. - The patients in the placebo group received Sham Reiki to the seven chakra regions for a total duration of 25-30 minutes for four days, with an average of three minutes. - Progressive Relaxation Exercise (PRE) group patients received PRE for four days. - On the 4th day, pain and anxiety levels (0-10 Likert-type scale) of the patients were evaluated after the last applications. - On the 21st day, the day of the next chemotherapy cycle, pain and anxiety levels were evaluated, state anxiety scale and perceived stress scale were administered, and serum cortisol level was evaluated in the morning before the start of chemotherapy. - At the 3rd month follow-up, pain and anxiety levels (0-10 Likert-type scale), state anxiety scale and perceived stress scale were evaluated.

Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) Bactericidal Permeability Protein (BPI) and Interleukin (IL)-1 Beta

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the amounts of BPI (Bactericidal permeability protein) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) in gingival fluid samples obtained from individuals with periodontally healthy and periodontal disease, to compare these amounts between study groups, and to evaluate their relationship with clinical parameters. In cases where clinical parameters increase, IL-1β amounts also increase significantly. The amount of IL-1β in individuals with periodontal disease is significantly higher compared to healthy individuals. There is positive correlation between BPI and clinical parameters. The amount of BPI in individuals with periodontal disease is significantly higher than in healthy individuals. More studies are needed to better understand the importance and therapeutic effect of BPI in periodontitis

Clinical Effectiveness and Parental Acceptance of Silver Diamine Fluoride in Preschool Children: A Non-randomized Trial

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a topical fluoride agent that has emerged in recent years and has a strong potential to arrest dentinal caries in early childhood caries. SDF has been developed as an effective non-invasive treatment method, especially in the non-cooperative preschool group, with its advantages such as easy application, low cost, and limited technical difficulties. The aims of this study were as follow: (a) to evaluate the efficacy of 38% GDF in arresting active dental caries lesions and reducing or preventing associated dental pain and infections in at-risk young children; and (b) how SDF treatment is perceived and acceptable by parents. The null hypothesis of the study was that 38% SDF treatment will be effective in arresting active dental caries lesions and reducing the incidence of pain and infection in young children, and is well-accepted by parents. The study group of this clinical research will consist of pediatric patients and their parents who were selected by easily accessible case sampling method and applied to Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry clinic. The working group will consist of a total of 48 children and their parents who meet the inclusion criteria. Parents will also be briefed on the GDF, follow-up instructions, oral hygiene instructions, and dietary education. After a baseline examination including radiographs taken during a standard dental examination, 38% GDF will be applied to carious lesions detected in primary teeth. Carious lesions will be treated with 38% SDF application once or twice. Children will be reassessed at 3-week, 3-month and 6-month follow-up sessions to assess color and structural changes in carious lesions (soft/hard). Parents will be asked to answer a questionnaire including questions about pain or infection symptoms and their views on SDF treatment.

The Importance of Discharge Education for Mommy Blues

The study will be conducted with participants who will give birth at Farabi Training and Research Hospital in Darıca District, Kocaeli Province. The sample size of the study was calculated using the G*Power 3.1.9.2 program, and the effect size of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) score in the Sun et al. (2021) study was considered in the effect size calculation. In the relevant article, the effect size is reported as effect size: 0.47. In our planned research, the minimum number of individuals to be sampled was calculated using G*Power 3.1.9.2 with effect size: 0.47 α= 0.05, power: 0.80, and the sample size was set at a minimum of 57 participants in each group. In anticipation of possible data loss, the study will be completed with a total of 140 participants, including 70 cases and 70 routine discharge training groups. This research aims to determine the effect of discharge training on maternal blues and postpartum depression on the levels of maternal blues and postpartum depression during postpartum follow-up.

Quality of life is defined as functional abilities that include the ability to fulfill an individual social role, the degree and quality of social interaction, mental health, physical competence, somatic senses such as pain, and satisfaction with life. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined quality of life in 1947 as a decrease not only in disease, disorder or disability, but also in physical, mental and social well-being. Old age is one of the situations in which the quality of life decreases. It is reported that the poor social and financial situation of individuals, low educational level, gender, lack of physical movement, decreased daily life activity level, decreased mobility ability, fall anxiety, sleep problems and other conditions that cause disability are determinants of the quality of life. According to the results of Bloom et al.'s study, elderly people wake up at night due to health problems. According to the literature, the sleep and life of pet therapy applied to elderly individuals living in a nursing home there have not been any studies examining the effect on quality. For this reason, it was aimed to conduct this study in order to determine the effect of pet therapy applied to elderly individuals living in a nursing home on sleep and quality of life. The study was planned to be conducted in a randomized controlled manner in order to determine the effect of pet therapy applied for one hour twice a week for 6 weeks to elderly people living in a nursing home in Tokat province on sleep pattern and quality of life. In the study, gender, age group and the presence of chronic diseases were taken as equivalence criteria. Since conducting the study single-blind will increase the reliability of the study, the application of the scales was applied by another researcher/surveyor other than the main researcher.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of employing the multi-sensory stimulation technique by both the mother and the nurse on the pain and physiological responses of infants aged 2-6 months during vaccination. The significance of pain experienced during vaccination in children is emphasized, potentially leading to avoidance behaviors toward healthcare services. There is growing evidence supporting the efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions. Multi-sensory stimulation, which integrates various stimuli such as taste, touch, and speech, alleviates infant pain. However, there has been a lack of studies assessing the effectiveness of this approach during vaccination administered by different healthcare providers. Hence, this study sought to explore the effects of multi-sensory stimulation by both mother and nurse applied to pain and physiological parameters. It is anticipated that the findings of this study will contribute to both pain management strategies and healthcare practices.
