Near Infrared Spectroscopy in Thyroidectomy

Thyroidectomy operations have traditionally been performed as open surgery. However, the scarring that occurs in the patient leads to cosmetic problems, especially in young women. Today, as a result of the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques, the number of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgeries (NOTES) is increasing. Surgical scars are avoided by using natural pathways such as the mouth, urethra, vagina or anus. Transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy (TOETVA) with vestibular approach, a form of NOTES, was first performed in 2011. In this method, the operation is performed through three ports entered near the gingiva-buccal sulcus. TOETVA surgeries are performed with an insufflation pressure of 6 mmHg in the neck region. No studies are examining the effects of this pressure on the blood vessels in the neck region on the blood supply to the brain tissue. Therefore, the investigators aim to compare cases operated using open thyroidectomy or TOETVA method by measuring cerebral regional tissue saturation.

Effectiveness of Supervised Exercise Program in Subacromial Impingement Syndrome

Subacromial Impingement Syndrome (SIS) is a pathology resulting from mechanical repetitive compression and inflammation of the supraspinatus tendon, subacromial bursa and biceps tendon under the acromion and the coracoacromial ligament. It is the most common cause of shoulder pain, with an incidence of 44-65%. Restriction of the range of motion, along with the pain in the anterior region of the shoulder, is the main reason for disability and decreased quality of life in patients with SIS. Physical exercises to improve the range of motion, strengthening, and flexibility is the main part of treatment. The subacromial-subdeltoid bursa corticosteroid injection is shown to decrease pain during the exercise program and increase participation in the treatment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of a supervised exercise program and home-based exercise program after subacromial-subdeltoid bursa corticosteroid injection in patients with SIS.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a heterogeneous pathology characterized by focal cartilage degeneration and the formation of new bone around the subchondral bone and joint, which is the disruption of balance between the processes of destruction and repair in subchondral area. Knee OA is a considerable cause of disability and is present in 2-3% of all disability causes. Exercises are more noticeable than other methods because they are an easy method, low cost and long-lasting. To the best of our knowledge, the studies based on this topic are scarce. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effects of open and closed kinetic chain exercises on pain, functional level, quality of life and muscle strength in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
