The Effects of Pilates-Based Core Stabilization Training in Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, autoimmune and neurodegenerative disease characterized by inflammation and progressive demyelination of the central nervous system. It is characterized by muscle weakness, balance and coordination disorder, which is more common in the lower extremities and trunk muscles. Over time, these symptoms decrease the individual's level of physical activity, mobility and quality of life, leading to further deterioration of the disorder. One of the most important problems that cause these problems in individuals with MS is reduced core stabilization. Decrease in core stabilization affects the quality of limb movements as well as trunk stability when considering the kinetic chain in the body. Pilates-based core stabilization training (PBCST) are a controlled exercise form used to improve the stabilization of trunk muscles. There are no studies on the effect of this training on lower extremity isokinetic muscle strength in individuals with MS. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of PBCST on lower extremity muscle strength, postural sway and kinetic chain in individuals with MS.

In this retrospective study, the sample included all pregnant women diagnosed with GDM in a pregnancy polyclinic in Kocaeli, Turkey between 2014 and 2019. The sample included 373 participants: 233 in the GDM group and 140 in the control group. The groups were compared in terms of age at menarche.

D-dimer values have been shown to be useful in the diagnosis of acute aortic dissection. Fibrinogen levels have been shown to be low, normal or high in individuals with acute aortic dissection. This study aims to investigate whether D-dimer/fibrinogen ratio can be valuable for diagnosis of acute aortic dissection.

Sternal wound infections after coronary artery bypass graft surgery through median sternotomy are one of the important, life-threatening complications. For this reasons, the investigators researched the advantages and disadvantages of showering for postoperative sternal wound infections, pain due to sternotomy and patient comfort and satisfaction.

Physical Fitness in Elderly

Aging decreases the physical fitness levels in living beings. The environmental factors also have a major effect on the physical fitness levels. The objective of this study was to compare the physical fitness levels of nursing home residents and community-dwelling elderly people. This study employed 118 participants, who consisted of nursing home residents and community-dwelling elderly people. The physical fitness levels of the elderly people were measured by Senior Fitness Test. The physical fitness levels of the elderly people were measured by Senior Fitness Test. Chair stand test, arm curl test, 2-minute step test, chair sit and reach test, back-scratch test, 8-foot up and go test and body mass index were measured.
