There are about 3491 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Singapore. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of upadacitinib compared to placebo in inducing clinical remission (per Adapted Mayo score) in participants with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC).
The aim of this study is to measure TAPSE in TEE using two deep transgastric views. This is a prospective comparative diagnostic study where 21 CABG patients who are enrolled for the study will be studied during the intraoperative period. The choice of general anaesthesia, hemodynamic management will be at the discretion of the anaesthesiologist in charge of the patient. The monitoring technique is standard as per any cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. After induction of anaesthesia, TEE probe will be inserted by the PI or the Co-Investigator and the required TEE standard views and deep TG view of the right heart at zero degree and Deep TG view at 100-150 degrees will be acquired TAPSE will be measured in both the views using Mmode. The measurement will be done as follows: After acquiring the deep TG views the M mode cursor is aligned with the longitudinal motion the lateral tricuspid annulus. Once the Mmode picks up a good signal, 3 cycles are chosen and measured using calipers, and an average reading is taken. TAPSE will be used to evaluate the right heart function during the intraoperative period so that the patients with deteriorating right heart function can be identified and treatment started early. The potential benefits include the simplicity and reproducibility of the technique.
Assessing the safety and efficacy of a micro-bypass stent in combination with cataract surgery in subjects with primary angle closure. Subjects are randomized into two arms: phacoemulsification cataract surgery alone versus phacoemulsification cataract surgery combined with the micro-bypass stent implantation. Post surgery intraocular eye pressure will be recorded to assess the efficacy of both arms.
The aim of the study is to determine the glycaemic and insulinaemic index of pasta products and local foods. It is hypothesized that different pasta cuts and wholegrain composition of pasta and local foods have different GI depending on the nature of the carbohydrate content and the food structure within each food.
Bronchial Asthma is a common childhood chronic disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the airways. Frequent relapse of asthma has serious impacts on the child's growth, impairs quality of life (QoL) and mortality, posing a huge economic burden on both family and society. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and theory, the main reason for children suffering from asthma are congenital deficiencies at birth which were not corrected and/or lack of appropriate care in the early childhood, leading to insufficiency of the lung, spleen and kidney, resulting in susceptibility to external pathogenic factors. During the interval phase of the illness, wheezing is not prominent and the "Lung-Spleen Qi Deficiency" (LSQD) syndrome is most commonly seen. TCM treatment aims to strengthen the body's immune system by nourishing the spleen, replenishing "Qi"(vital energy), tonifying the lungs and strengthening the exterior, thereby reducing incidences of relapse and improve QoL. It is hypothesized that TCM has adjuvant roles in the management of mild-moderate childhood asthma. Hence the primary aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of using herbal TCM as adjuvant therapy in the management of symptoms and QoL in asthmatic patients. A randomized, double-blind cross-sectional, 2-arms placebo-controlled study will be carried out. Pediatric patients with mild-moderate asthma identified with LSQD will be randomized to either control or treatment group. Study participants in control group will continue their conventional western medicine (CWM) while those in TCM group will consume a decoction of herbal TCM for 12-weeks in addition to their CWM. Pulmonary function tests, Asthma Control Test, QoL and TCM questionnaires will be used as outcome measurement tools. In addition, liver and kidneys functions will be monitored for signs of toxicity.
Approximately 20% women who undergo cesarean delivery would suffer from severe post-operative pain, which may further increase their risks from developing postpartum depression. Predictive factors such as pre-operative pain, age and anxiety could significantly contribute to post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and pain in general surgery, however little information is available with regards to cesarean delivery. The investigators would investigate the risk factors of causing post-operative emesis after cesarean delivery, and to reaffirm that there is a positive correlation between pain on local anesthetic injection, presence of mechanical temporal summation (MTS) and post-Cesarean pain scores.
This study examines potential physiological and psychological determinants of food intake in response to exercise. Specifically, beyond measuring actual food consumption and physiological markers typically assessed during exercise and appetite work (i.e. appetite hormones, blood glucose), the investigators wish to investigate the influence of individual behavioural differences (attitudes towards eating, licensing/compensatory health beliefs, self-regulation, and exercise-associated motivation) on the relationship between exercise and eating behaviour.
JAVELIN Ovarian PARP 100 (B9991030) is an open-label, randomized study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of avelumab in combination with chemotherapy followed by maintenance therapy of avelumab in combination with talazoparib versus an active comparator in treatment-naïve patients with locally advanced or metastatic ovarian cancer (Stage III or Stage IV). On March 19, 2019, Sponsors alliance announced the discontinuation of the ongoing Phase III study, and the decision was based on several factors, including previous announced interim results from JAVELIN Ovarian 100 study (B9991010). Patients who remain in B9991030 study will continue receiving their randomized treatment assigned and will be monitored for appropriate safety assessments until treatment discontinuation.
With the growing burden of dementia (including Alzheimer's disease), and the lack of efficacious therapies, there is an urgent need to identify new therapeutics. Ergothioneine (ET) is a naturally occurring thiol derivative of histidine, obtained solely through diet and is able to accumulate in the body and brain, through the action of a specific transporter, OCTN1. In addition to a wide variety of in vitro and in vivo (animal) studies demonstrating the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties of ET, several studies have demonstrated the neuroprotective potential of ET in various cell and animal models. Based on the ability of ET to counteract the underlying pathology of AD dementia, it is hypothesize that ET supplementation may prevent cognitive decline, especially in individuals at risk of cognitive impairment. This will be assessed using a randomized, double blinded, placebo-controlled, intervention study to test the ability of ET to delay or reverse cognitive impairment in elderly individuals with mild cognitive impairment.
