Lung Function After Abdominal Surgery

The study aims to investigate changes in lung function and diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide after open and minimally invasive abdominal surgery and whether such changes can explain hypoxia after surgery. Inclusion: Patients undergoing surgery for abdominal surgery Exclusion: Dementia or cognitive impairment that makes it impossible to participate in studies. Investigation: The day before surgery and the day after surgery Primary outcome measures: - Pulmonary function test with dynamic spirometry (Vital capacity, FEV1) and diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide. - PaO2, PaCO2 and oxygen saturation (blood gas)

Effects of Anesthetic Techniques on Time to Start of Adjuvant Chemotherapy Following Surgery for Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in the world with a high postoperative mortality (2 - 6%) as well as a low 5-year survival (40%). Despite advances in surgery and the use of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery in recent years and adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery, long-term prognosis has only improved marginally. Epidural analgesia is commonly used as a part of the perioperative management of patients undergoing open, colorectal cancer surgery. Not only does it reduce pain and stress, epidurals have been shown to reduce perioperative inflammation and preserve immunological function, all of which may be beneficial in perioperative tumorigenesis. In several retrospective studies, anesthesia and choice of analgesia have shown to improve long-term survival, but no randomized studies have been published in the literature today. Similarly, the benefits of propofol anesthesia in comparison to inhalational anesthesia have recently been high-lighted in relation to cancer surgery, and many patients today request the use of epidurals, total intravenous anesthesia and loco-regional anesthetic technique during surgery, without clear evidence from prospective studies in the literature. Therefore, the question as to the real benefit of anesthesia technique in postoperative outcomes and tumor recurrence remain unanswered, and skepticism abounds amongst both surgeons and anesthesiologists. It is therefore important to study short- and long-term outcomes in patients undergoing CRC surgery, comparing epidural vs. no epidural or inhalational vs. total intravenous anesthesia. However, prospective, randomized studies are costly, require many patients, and the benefits of choice of anesthesia and analgesia on outcome remain uncertain from the current literature. There is a clear diffusion in practice across the world in the choice of anesthesia for patients undergoing CRC surgery, a lack of evidence in the literature and an absence of guidelines on best practice anesthesia care. We believe that by performing a large, prospective, observational, international, pragmatic study, with low costs, it will be possible to answer some of the important questions pertaining to the choice of anesthesia and analgesia. The clinical trials network at the European Society of Anesthesiology will play an important role in the success of this study.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a diabetes complication caused by damage to the small blood vessels inside the retina at the back of the eye. Diabetic retinopathy may cause mild vision problems or eventually blindness. Diabetes is a condition that makes your blood sugar levels higher than they should be. In the early stages of diabetic retinopathy - called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR)- increased blood sugar levels lead to damage to the tiny blood vessels of the retina. This damage results in small outpouchings of the vessel lumens leading to rupture. At the same time the blood vessels can leak and making the retina swell and can cause so called macula edema. In these early stages of DR current treatment to reduce the risk of this eye complication is focused on controlling blood sugar levels and blood pressure. Participants in this study have NPDR, Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a condition in which the kidneys become damaged and do not work as they should. These participants are already taking part in one of the phase 3 studies (FIDELIO-DKD and FIGARO-DKD). They study the effect of Finerenone on delaying kidney disease progression and reducing the risk of events that may cause damage to the heart and blood vessels To learn more about the effect of Finerenone on diabetic retinopathy, data from routine eye examinations performed during the two phase 3 studies will be collected and analyzed. All male and female participants included in this study are at least 18 years.

Digital Support for People With Cognitive Impairment

Cognitive impairment may cause problems in planning and initiating daily activities, as well as remembering to do what is scheduled. This study investigates the effectiveness of an interactive web-based mobile reminder calendar, (RemindMe). The calendar sends text messages to the user's mobile phone as support in everyday life, for persons with cognitive impairment due to neurological injury/diagnoses. The study has a randomized controlled trial design with data collection at baseline and at follow-up sessions after two and four months. Data collection started in October 2016 and continued until February 2018. RemindMe may give the needed support to remind the person and thus increase the ability to perform activities and to become independent in everyday life.

In this alpha-radioimmunotherapy study groups of 3 patients with recurring epithelial ovarian cancer treated by salvage chemo-therapy and being in complete or good partial remission will receive one intra peritoneal infusion of 211 astatine (211At)-MX35 F(ab')2 . Patients will receive a single dose of MX35 F(ab')2 radiolabeled with increasing activity concentration of 211At in 1.0 - 2 L Extraneal® solution starting at an activity concentration of 50 megabecquerel per litre (MBq/L).

Prisma is a four-session psychoeducational intervention administered in groups for individuals with ASD together with their family members and significant others. The aspiration is to make Prisma into an affordable, accessible and available intervention. This includes taking into account a great age spectrum, differences in comorbidity as well as other varied qualities that characterize this group. Acknowledging this diversity and helping to create opportunity for these individuals is of great importance in order to follow national as well as international legislations of the patient's rights. The aim of the proposed studies is to evaluate the feasibility and effect of Prisma in adults (18 or over) with ASD and their family members/significant others in an outpatient clinical habilitation context.
