There are about 8563 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Sweden. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
NSHDS (Northern Sweden Health and Disease Study) is an umbrella term for a prospective biobank with related survey data. The sample collection consists of three subcohorts, Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP), Mammography Screening Project (MA) and MONICA (MONItoring of Trends and Determinants in CArdiovascular Disease). The blood samples are stored at the Northern Sweden Biobank.
Noise benefit in ADHD Auditory noise benefit: The original findings from our research group, that auditory noise enhances cognitive performance in inattentive children without diagnosis as well as children with an ADHD diagnosis, have been replicated several times (Baijot et al., 2016; Söderlund et al., 2016; Söderlund & Nilsson Jobs, 2016; Söderlund et al., 2007). In a new study, the benefit of noise was shown to be in parity with or even larger than the benefit of pharmacological ADHD treatment on two cognitive tasks, episodic word recall and visuo-spatial working memory task. In the study a group of children diagnosed with ADHD were tested on and off medication, at separate occasions, in noisy vs. silent environments while performing the tasks (Söderlund, Björk et al., 2016). Participants and recruitment: Participants with an ADHD diagnosis using medication will be recruited from Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Lund and Malmö. Typically developing children (TDC) and inattentive children without diagnosis will be recruited from schools in collaboration with the municipality. Experimental design: All participants will perform a double-blind placebo cross over control study. ADHD participants will perform the entire test battery at three occasions with 2-3 weeks intermission in between tests. One occasion with placebo medication and sham SVS stimulation; one occasion with active SVS stimulation; and one occasion with active medication. TD children will only be tested twice while they will not be given any medication or placebo and just perform under SVS vs. sham conditions. Test battery: 1) Episodic memory will be tested trough Auditory Verbal Learning Test (AVLT) (e.g. Dige et al., 2008). 2) Visuo-spatial working memory will be tested through the Spanboard task (Westerberg et al., 2004). 3) Motor-neurological investigation. 4) A finger tapping task. 5) Evaluation of an iPhone auditory noise application in a normal school setting. Our research group has developed an iPhone application (www.smartnoise.se) that is available at App-store right now. The study will last for about 5 months and participants will be 50 voluntary secondary school pupils that have documented attention difficulties as judged by their teachers. The application will be evaluated both by pupils, teachers and parents.
This study evaluates hydration (1.5 L of water daily during 1 year) in the lowering of blood glucose concentration in adults with signs of dehydration (elevated levels of the vasopressin marker copeptin and high urine osmolality). Half of participants will in addition to lifestyle advice receive extra water on top of their habitual fluid intake, and the other half (control) will receive only lifestyle advice.
In this study we are going to measure the blood flow in the lower limbs under cast immobilisation and also under mobilisation with an orthosis. The aim is to evaluate how the aforementioned modalities affect the blood flow and also to compare between the two.
Observational, multi-centre, prospective study to investigate the feasibility of centralized TDM of moxifloxacin and levofloxacin in MDR-TB patients by determining turn-around time between sampling and receiving dosing advice. In addition, the effect of TDM will be evaluated by comparing treatment results of prospective patients receiving TDM with historical controls without TDM.
The mechanisms behind heart failure are largely unknown. Despite an increasing arsenal of pharmacological therapies, cardiovascular disease is still the most common cause of death in the western world, which demonstrates a pronounced need for more patient-related mechanistic research. Cachexia and limited exercise capacity are the symptoms that best match prediction of heart failure, both of which are symptoms involving a dysfunctional skeletal muscle. An increased understanding of the mechanisms and signaling pathways connects the failure heart with skeletal muscle dysfunction is likely to lead both to discoveries of prognostic factors and possible therapeutic options. The study is a prospective, non-blinded, study. The study will consist of the assignment of patients with heart failure, New York Heart Association (NYHA) III-IV, 60-80 years old. One hundred (100) patients will be enrolled in this study.
Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been used in treating postoperative SSI with encouraging results and is now an accepted element in the arsenal of tools for treating these complications. The concept of applying NPWT to closed surgical wounds as a preventive measure is relatively new but draws on the inherent properties of the method which could theoretically lead to reduced seroma formation, wound dehiscence, increased capillary circulation and consequently better wound healing and fewer SSI. Given the incidence and the consequences of SSI in infrainguinal vascular procedures any appreciable decrease in the burden of these complications could have profound benefits for patients and healthcare facilities. As to date, there are no published data from randomized controlled trials investigating the effectiveness of this prophylactic measure. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of NPWT applied to closed surgical wounds directly after skin closure compared to standard sterile gauze dressing in reducing the incidence and severity of postoperative SSI in infrainguinal surgical wounds in patients undergoing elective, open vascular surgery.
The FAST Trial Registry is a prospective observational cohort study of fetuses with a new diagnosis of atrial flutter (AF) or supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) that is severe enough to consider prenatal treatment (see eligibility criteria below). Aims of the Registry include to establish a large clinical database to determine and compare the efficacy and safety of different prenatal treatment strategies including observation without immediate treatment, transplacental antiarrhythmic fetal treatment and direct fetal treatment from the time of tachycardia diagnosis to death, neonatal hospital discharge or to a maximum of 30 days after birth.
The aim is to analyse feasibility of a minimally-invasive isolated limb perfusion.
This study aims to investigate if a low back pain screening tool is helpful for the caregivers to direct the rehabilitation in a more efficient way, at an earlier stage. Primary Health care centers in the municipality of Halmstad, Sweden will be enrolled to participate in the study as either "Control" or "intervention". The primary Health care centers who are enrolled taking part in the intervention, will use the provided screening tool when taking care of patients seeking care for low back pain. Scorings from the screening tool will "label" the patients as one of Three pre-defined risk levels. The caregiver will then use the provided risk level when deciding how to proceed the rehabilitation. Based on the risk level identified, the patient is directed to one of three levels of treatments - including simple advice; physiotherapy; or multimodal rehabilitation. The screening tool is used as a complement to the examination, allowing the physiotherapist /GP to decide how to proceed with rehabilitation using the back screening tool, together with Clinical examinations. The Control Group consists of patients recruited when seeking care for back pain at a Primary Health Care service who has been randomly selected as "Control". The care givers at the Control primary Health care will conduct as usual, not using the back pain screening tool in their Clinical examinations.
