There are about 3194 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Portugal. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Until recently, the tuberculin skin test (TST) was the only available diagnostic assay for detection of latent infection with M. tuberculosis (LTBI). Despite the low overall incidence of symptomatic tuberculosis infection in low-prevalence countries, the potential mortality and morbidity mandate constant vigilance to identify patients at risk for reactivation. Due to systemic immunosuppression, immunocompromised patients with latent M. tuberculosis infection are at increased risk of progression to active disease. This applies to patients with various causes of immunodeficiency such as HIV-infected patients, allogeneic stem cell and solid organ transplant recipients, patients with rheumatoid arthritis and patients with chronic renal failure. Therefore, current guidelines aimed at preventing tuberculosis infection in immunocompromized individuals recommend a generalized screening for evidence of latent infection to target appropriate preventative prophylaxis. At present, tuberculosis control programs exclusively rely on the tuberculin skin test to identify a latent infection in asymptomatic individuals. Recently, novel in vitro assays termed T cell interferon-gamma release assay (TIGRA) have become available that are based on the detection of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) production in T cells or supernatants after stimulation with highly specific antigens of M. tuberculosis. Two TIGRA are commercially available, the ELISPOT based T.SPOT.TB and the ELISA based QuantiFERON-TB Gold test (now available as an "IN-TUBE" version). The aim of the study is a prospective comparison of the two commercially available approved TIGRA (QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube and T.SPOT.TB) with the established Mendel-Mantoux skin-test in immunocompromized patients (main focus on sensitivity and specificity). The study hypotheses are as follows: 1. In immunocompromised patients, the two commercially available approved TIGRA (QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube and T.SPOT.TB) have increased sensitivity and specificity as compared to the established Mendel-Mantoux skin-test. 2. Results from QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube and T.SPOT.TB do not differ in immunocompromised patients.
The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the progression-free survival (PFS) with XL184 as compared with placebo (an inactive substance) in subjects with unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). Subjects will be randomized to receive XL184 or placebo in a 2:1 ratio. XL184 is an investigational drug that inhibits VEGFR2, MET and RET, kinases implicated in tumor formation, growth and migration. The Clinical Steering Committee for this study, comprised of study doctors who specialize in medullary thyroid cancer, has provided guidance regarding the design of the study. The committee includes: Douglas Ball, MD, Barry Nelkin, PhD, Martin Schlumberger, MD and Steven Sherman, MD.

LYDO is a multi-center study that will enroll approximately 1925 adult outpatients with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Patients will receive, under open label conditions, atomoxetine up to 100 mg/day during the acute, open-label part of the study. Those patients that meet the response criteria will continue the blind phase of the study up to a year. During that period, patients that respond to atomoxetine will be randomized to continue the treatment with atomoxetine or with placebo (neither the patients nor investigators know if patients receive atomoxetine or placebo).
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of perampanel when given as an adjunctive therapy in subjects with refractory partial seizures.
This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of adding bevacizumab to crossover fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who have experienced disease progression under first line treatment with standard chemotherapy plus bevacizumab. Participants will receive chemotherapy alone, or in combination with bevacizumab. The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. Participants are allowed to continue on bevacizumab, even after stopping chemotherapy.
This study will evaluate the relative efficacy and safety of prasugrel and clopidogrel in a medically managed Unstable Angina/Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (UA/NSTEMI) acute coronary syndrome (ACS) population (that is, patients who are not managed with acute coronary revascularization).
The primary objective was to compare the efficacy of once daily subcutaneous injections of Semuloparin sodium (AVE5026) with placebo in the prevention of venous thromboembolism [VTE] in cancer patients at high risk for VTE and who were undergoing chemotherapy.
