NCT ID: NCT00120003 Completed - Stroke Clinical Trials

Scandinavian Candesartan Acute Stroke Trial (SCAST)

Start date: June 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this trial is to assess whether the blood pressure lowering agent candesartan (an angiotensin receptor type 1 blocker) is effective when given to patients with acute stroke and elevated blood pressure. Hypothesis: AT1 receptor blockade with candesartan in acute stroke will: 1. reduce the risk of death or major disability at 6 months by a 6% absolute risk reduction, relative to placebo. 2. reduce the risk of the combined event of "vascular" death, myocardial infarction, or stroke during the first 6 months by a 25% relative risk reduction, relative to placebo

NCT ID: NCT00119912 Active, not recruiting - Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trials

NORCCAP: Norwegian Colorectal Cancer Prevention Trial

Start date: January 1999
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to see if screening with flexible sigmoidoscopy (a flexible viewing tube) may reduce large bowel cancer and cancer deaths. The researchers also want to see if the addition of screening for occult blood in stools may contribute further to this aim. Additionally, the researchers also want to see to which extent (and in which direction) the study may influence overall endoscopic activity in the general population in the screening area and in areas where controlled screening is not established.

NCT ID: NCT00119483 Completed - Hypogonadism Clinical Trials

Older Men and Testosterone

Start date: September 2005
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Male hypogonadism is a clinical situation characterized by a low serum testosterone level in combination with a diversity of symptoms and signs such as reduced libido and vitality, decreased muscle mass, increased fat mass and depression. Similar symptoms in combination with subnormal testosterone levels are seen in some elderly men. Low testosterone levels are associated with known cardiovascular risk factors, and men with diabetes and stroke have lower testosterone levels than healthy men. Even though several publications have suggested that testosterone treatment in hypogonadal men may have beneficial effects, it is still uncertain if testosterone substitution in the aging man is indicated. Despite this uncertainty the sale of testosterone has increased enormously the last few years. We hypothesize that older men with subnormal testosterone levels have a varying degree of dysfunction/symptoms both physically and mentally, and that these dysfunction/symptoms can be improved with testosterone treatment.

NCT ID: NCT00119457 Completed - Clinical trials for Venous Thromboembolism

Factor IX Inhibition in Thrombosis Prevention (The FIXIT Trial)

Start date: January 2005
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether TTP889 prevents venous thromboembolism following surgery to repair hip fracture.

NCT ID: NCT00118703 Completed - Vasomotor Rhinitis Clinical Trials

Once-Daily Investigational Nasal Spray In Adults And Adolescents With Vasomotor Rhinitis

Start date: July 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of GW685698X 100mcg once daily (QD) aqueous nasal spray with vehicle placebo nasal spray in adult and adolescent subjects (12 years of age and older) with vasomotor rhinitis (VMR).

NCT ID: NCT00117325 Completed - Rhinitis, Vasomotor Clinical Trials

Study Of Adults And Adolescents With Vasomotor Rhinitis

Start date: July 11, 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of GW685698X 100mcg once daily (QD) aqueous nasal spray with vehicle placebo nasal spray in adult and adolescent subjects (12 years of age and older) with vasomotor rhinitis (VMR).

NCT ID: NCT00117026 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 1

Effects of Vitamin B1 in Type 1 Diabetic Patients

Start date: August 2005
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether benfotiamine supplementation can reduce markers of microvascular complications in type 1 diabetic patients.

NCT ID: NCT00114972 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Coronary Artery Disease

SYNTAX Study: TAXUS Drug-Eluting Stent Versus Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery for the Treatment of Narrowed Arteries

SYNTAX
Start date: March 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The SYNTAX trial is designed to determine the best treatment for patients with complex coronary disease (blocked or narrowed arteries in both the right and left sides of the heart) by randomizing patients to receive either percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with polymer-based paclitaxel-eluting TAXUS stents or to coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG).

NCT ID: NCT00114855 Completed - Hyperlipidemia Clinical Trials

The Effect of Hypocol® on Lipids in Subjects With Mild Hypercholesterolemia and Mildly Elevated Blood Glucose

Start date: March 2005
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine to what degree Hypocol® (Red Yeast Rice) may lower low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol in a European population. The effect of Red Yeast Rice on fasting blood glucose and inflammatory markers will also be investigated.

NCT ID: NCT00114777 Completed - Clinical trials for Renal Transplantation

Study of Belatacept in Subjects Who Are Undergoing a Renal Transplant

BENEFIT-EXT
Start date: February 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this trial is to learn if Belatacept is effective and safe as a first line of immunosuppression treatment in patients undergoing a renal transplant where the donor kidney is obtained in patients with extended criteria.
