Postoperative pain and nausea may diminish a patient`s wellbeing, and may also delay rehabilitation, as well as increase the total cost of care and treatment. Opioids are effective drugs for treatment of pain, but with the disadvantage of side effects such as somnolence and nausea. The benefits of various types of non-opioid analgesic in reducing patients` postoperative need for opioids have been well-documented. One non-opioid prophylaxis documented for various surgery is short-term treatment with corticosteroids. The optimal dose of corticosteroids for peroperative nausea and pain prophylaxis is not well-documented. In our study we will attempt to determine whether the aforementioned benefits of corticosteroids are valid for a group of patients undergoing thyroid surgery. Hypothesis: Single-dose treatment with dexamethasone provides a better analgesic effect and/or reduced use of opioids than placebo in patients undergoing elective throid surgery. Higher dose of dexamethasone provide better and/or longer-lasting analgesic effects without influencing the side effect profile.
A prospective multicenter study comparing patients with CRVO amd secondary macular edema treated with ranibizumab versus sham. Safety and efficacy will be evaluated. Patients will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to one of the two arms. 32 patients, 6 months follow up. There will be monthly visits with injection the first three months and subsequently new injection if present edema.
This is an observational safety study being conducted in Europe comparing patients taking Xagrid to patients taking other cytoreductive treatments. The plan is to enrol at least 750 subjects taking Xagrid with up to 3000 subjects taking other cytoreductive therapies. The study will collect follow up data for 5 years for each patient enrolled that will focus on collecting data related to pre-defined events (PDEs) and Suspected Serious Adverse Reactions (SSARs).
Pelvic organ prolapse is characterized by a lack of pelvic floor support causing the pelvic organs and vaginal walls to protrude. For decades, suture repair techniques have been the primary choice of surgical treatment when indicated. Traditional surgical techniques are frequently associated with unsatisfying anatomical recurrence rates and it is plausible that inherently weak, or damaged, pelvic floor supportive tissues need to be reinforced by a permanent support to avoid the high rates of recurrences commonly described using traditional techniques. Over the years sporadic attempts have been made to introduce novel surgical techniques using a variety of biomaterials with varying success. Despite a lack of clinical safety data, or compelling clinical evidence demonstrating that it improves outcomes compared to traditional suture techniques, use of biomaterials in pelvic reconstructive surgery has become widespread in just a few years . It is likely that biomaterials need to be "anchored" in tissues not afflicted by the disease, in order to provide the intended pelvic floor support. This has given rise to transvaginal surgical techniques using a transobturator approach passing the mesh through the arcus tendineous fascia pelvis, or the sacrospinous ligaments through a transgluteal approach. Short term data from concluded and on-going safety assessments of these techniques has provided promising results and satisfying clinical outcomes. The aim of the present study is to compare anterior mesh repair (PROLIFT®) with traditional suture repair in a randomised trial.
Risk factors for postoperative delirium in hip fracture patients.

This is a randomised, double-blind, double-dummy, multinational, multicentre, parallel group trial comparing tiotropium (18 mcg) inhalation capsule via HandiHaler and salmeterol (50 mcg) via MDI in patients with COPD. There will be a two-week run-in period followed by a 52-week randomised treatment phase. Patients who withdraw prematurely from trial medication will be encouraged to remain in the trial and participate in follow-up telephone contacts until their predicted normal exit date from the trial (i.e. 52 weeks after taking the first dose of randomised treatment). The phone calls will be made at all scheduled visits. The primary objective of this study is to compare the effect of tiotropium (18 mcg) inhalation capsule via HandiHaler with that of salmeterol (50 mcg) via MDI on COPD exacerbations. The primary endpoint is time to first COPD exacerbation during the 52 week randomised treatment period. A COPD exacerbation will be defined as a complex of respiratory events / symptoms (increase or new onset) of more than one of the following: cough, sputum, wheezing, dyspnoea or chest tightness with at least one symptom lasting at least three days requiring treatment with antibiotics and/or systemic steroids and/or hospitalisation. The onset of an exacerbation is defined as the onset of the first new or increased reported symptom. The end of the exacerbation should be recorded as defined by the investigator. Only COPD exacerbations with onset during randomised treatment will be included in the analysis.

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is associated with moderate to severe postoperative pain, causing patient discomfort, mobilisation and hospital discharge. The aim of this study is to: 1. Compare analgetic efficacy of to types of local infiltration analgesia in total knee arthroplasty. 2. Compare analgetic efficacy of local infiltration analgesia with continuous epidural analgesia.
The main objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of aflibercept (versus placebo) in increasing the overall survival in participants with metastatic colorectal cancer treated with FOLFIRI (Irinotecan, 5-Fluorouracil, and Leucovorin) and that have previously failed an oxaliplatin based treatment for metastatic disease. The secondary objectives were to compare progression-free survival, to evaluate overall response rate, to evaluate the safety profile, to assess immunogenicity of intravenous (IV) aflibercept, and to assess pharmacokinetics of IV aflibercept in both treatment arms.
