There are about 5161 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Norway. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The objectives of the project are to investigate feasibility, safety, and health-related outcomes in patients with psychosis who choose not to use antipsychotic drugs (APs). The instruction from the Ministry of Health and Care Services to establish "Medication Free" (non-pharmacological (NonPharm)) treatment services, which has received substantial critique for being given without support in scientific evidence, provides a window of opportunity for research in an under-investigated field. The study will prospectively follow a cohort over 1 year who seeks NonPharm treatment, with repeated measurements of symptoms, functional outcomes, quality of life, adverse events, as well as biological parameters including genetics and brain imaging, and environmental factors, and compare the findings to a control group of users of antipsychotic drugs, matched for age, gender and diagnosis. Current unanswered questions in the treatment of psychosis include which patients can successfully and safely discontinue antipsychotic medication; and what are the long-term symptomatic, biological and functional outcomes after use or non-use of APs, respectively. Taken together there is a fundamental lack of high-quality evidence to guide the treatment options in people who cannot or do not want to use APs in psychosis. This is also a major challenge in the study, as a more rigorous design that could directly compare different treatment options is not feasible, because no alternatives to APs have proven to be sufficiently effective and safe in controlled trials. The study is accordingly expected to provide new exploratory information that could be the basis of intervention studies which in its turn could provide important information for consumers and the mental health services regarding treatment options in psychosis.
The biggest challenge in obesity management is maintaining weight loss in the long-term. Currently, bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment, leading to sustained weight loss that is not yet achievable with lifestyle intervention (e.g. diet). The reasons behind its success is still not clearly understood, but beneficial changes in the homeostatic and hedonic appetite systems (the two major physiological regulators of appetite), along with the microbiome (known to have a mediatory effect on appetite) have been shown to occur after bariatric surgery. These alterations are in opposition to what is seen after diet-induced weight loss. Today, the component of appetite regulation that drives bariatric surgeys' long-term success is still unknown. By comparing a lifestyle and surgical intervention in parallel, the investigators can observe the impact of a similar magnitude of weight loss on these three domains of appetite regulation simultaneously, thereby illuminating the mechanisms behind bariatric surgerys' success.
A prospective cohort design will be used to assess differences in outcomes between pivoting sport athletes with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) who follow usual care and those who follow a treatment algorithm with a RTS and rehabilitation tool. Athletes aged 15-40 at injury with primary ACLR who express a goal to return to sports with frequent pivoting are eligible. The RTS and rehabilitation tool includes standardized clinical, functional and muscle strength testing 6, 8, 10, and 12 months after surgery. Individual test results guide progression in sports participation and the content of further rehabilitation according to a standardized algorithm.
Evidence is lacking about scalable, effective and sustainable interventions to increase physical activity and concomitant outcomes in young children. Therefore, the investigators will conduct a large cluster randomized controlled trial investigating the effects of physical activity professional development of preschool staff on preschool physical activity practices and child health and development over 6 and 18 months. The aim is to recruit 60 preschools and 1200 children aged 3-5 years in one county in the western part of Norway to allow for detecting small to moderate effect sizes and ensuring a heterogeneous sample of preschools for the study of implementation. Children's physical development, children's socio-emotional and cognitive development, and intervention implementation will be investigated. The intervention will be developed with strong user involvement from municipalities and relevant stakeholders to facilitate the development of sustainable solutions.
Introduction: Maximal strength increments are reported to result in improvements in sprint speed and jump height in elite male football players. Although similar effects are expected in females, this is yet to be elucidated. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of maximal strength training on sprint speed and jump height in high-level female football players. Methods: Two female football teams were team-cluster-randomized to a training group (TG) performing maximal strength training (MST) twice a week for five weeks, or control group (CG) doing their regular pre-season preparations. The MST consisted of 3-4 sets of 4-6 repetitions at ≥85% of 1 repetition maximum (1RM) in a squat exercise. Sprint speed and jump height were assessed in 5-, 10- and 15 meter sprints and a counter-movement jump (CMJ) test, respectively. 19 participants in TG (18.3 ± 2.7 years) and 14 in CG (18.3 ± 2.4 years) completed pre- and posttests and were carried forward for final analyses.
The CORINTH trial is for patients with more advanced (stage 3 and 4) anal cancer. The numbers of patients with anal cancer is increasing and only 65% patients with this later stage anal cancer have not had a recurrence 3 years after treatment. Anal cancer responds well to chemo-radiation (CRT) and this would be the treatment used for standard clinical care. The chemotherapy in CORINTH will be the same as standard of care (Mitomycin and 5FU or capecitabine) and the radiotherapy (RT) will be delivered using a technique where the dose intensity of RT can be modulated for different areas of the tumor (Intensity Modulated RT - IMRT). Translational samples (tissue blocks and blood) will be collected at baseline with further blood and tissue samples during and after treatment. Pembrolizumab, a relatively new drug, is a monoclonal antibody that enhances the body's immune response to cancer cells by acting on a receptor on the surface of T-cells called Programmed Death -1 (PD-1). The CORINTH study aims to see whether pembrolizumab, can be added safely to standard CRT. We will explore how safe the combination is and how well tolerated it is for patients with stage 3 and 4 anal cancer. If it is tolerable more patients will be treated to see if there is a similar or better clinical response. The trial is designed in 3 groups of patients. All patients will receive eight infusions of pembrolizumab at three weekly intervals. Each infusion lasts approximately 1 hour. The first group will not get pembrolizumab until they have already had 4 weeks of CRT (Day 29). As long as this is not found to cause too many extra side effects, the next group will have infusions at the beginning of the third week of CRT. The final group (cohort 3) will start their pembrolizumab with the first day of CRT i.e. Day 1. Initially each group will have 6 patients. Provided each group of patients finds the treatment tolerable and it is safe, more patients will be recruited into the group that receives the pembrolizumab earliest during their CRT. This will add further credence to the safety and tolerability of the combination and may provide a signal of how effective this treatment might be in improving outcomes for patients with more advanced anal cancer.
Primary objectives: - Randomization R1, all patients eligible: To examine, whether the cumulative incidence of relapses with involvement of the CNS (CNS relapse, pCICR) can be decreased by a modified induction therapy including dexamethasone (experimental arm) instead of prednisone (standard arm) - Randomization R2, only patients with high risk LBL eligible: to examine, whether the probability of event-free survival (pEFS) in these patients can be improved by receiving an intensified treatment arm versus a standard treatment arm (as used in the EURO-LB 02)
This study aims at developing, implementing and evaluating a complex intervention involving Learning, Innovation, Volunteers and Empowerment for home dwelling persons with dementia and their caregivers. The investigators hypothesise that a successfully implemented intervention will reduce caregivers burden and be cost-effective.
The proposed study is designed to provide patients previously enrolled in Phase 1 and 2 studies of DCR-PHXC and their siblings (<18 years old) long-term access to DCR-PHXC, and to evaluate the long-term safety and efficacy of DCR-PHXC in patients with PH.
In this study, all citizen of Nord-Trøndelag County, Norway, above 18 years of age are invited to participate in a population-based health study, the HUNT study. Blood samples are drawn from the participants and assessed for celiac disease by a serological assay. Celiac disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the small intestine due to dietary gluten in wheat, barley and rye. The diagnosis will be verified through endoscopic assessment and biopsies from the small intestinal mucosa. The aims of the study are 1) to establish the population-based prevalence of celiac disease; 2) to assess the consequences of the disease from patient reported outcomes, symptoms, deficiencies, and co-morbidity; 3) to study possible risk factors and environmental triggering events; 4) to identify genetic predictors and gene-environmental interactions.
