Real-time Targeted Fluorescence Endoscopy for Detection of the Primary Cancer Lesion in Patients With a Metastasis of Unknown Primary Tumor in the Head and Neck

In current diagnostic work-up of patients with a cancer of unknown primary (CUP), approximately 50% of the primary tumor lesions remains undetected. Identification of the primary tumor site results in minimizing the potential morbidity from treatment by reducing morbidity by omitting the need for a mucosectomy of the bilateral base of tongue and tonsils, reducing the radiation field and better oncologic outcome than those with unidentified primary tumor. Clearly, new endoscopic 'real-time' imaging techniques are needed to visualize mucosal changes associated with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and increase detection rate of the primary tumor. Targeted fluorescence endoscopy enables the visualization of targeted tumor-specific biomarkers by using fluorescence, thereby enhancing the contrast between normal mucosa and tumor tissue. This could improve the detection of the primary tumor in cases where the primary tumor is not detected with white light endoscopy.

Image-based Remote Monitoring in Cardiac Surgery Patients

In this observational study, 100 patients admitted to the Cardiothoracic ward will be additionally monitored with video-cameras. The video-cameras will measure heart- and respiration rate continuously. Other features, such a cardiac arrhythmias and context analysis may be added as well. Data will be analysed retrospectively and will be compared with vital parameters measured with healthdot- and spot check measurements.

Nexpowder to Prevent Delayed Bleeding After Endoscopic Resection

Safety and effectiveness of a new hemostatic system to prevent delayed bleeding after endoscopic resection in a selected high-risk population (NEXPOWDER- ENDOHS). Indication: Patients with indication of endoscopy resection by endoscopic mucal resection (EMR) or endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) with high risk of delayed bleeding (≥5%). Hypotheses: The use of NexpowderTM after upper and lower gastrointestinal ESD or EMR of ≥20mm in high-risk population will prevent and decrease delayed bleeding to less than 5%.

Hip Socket Erosion Study

The aim of this exploratory retrospective study is to gain a better understanding about the occurrence of acetabular erosion in patients after after hip hemiarthroplasty. The main objectives are i) to summarise a selection of basic patient characteristics of all patients of ≤ 75 years of age with a femoral neck fracture who have received either HA or THA, ii) to explore the proportion of patients after HA who developed acetabular erosion in the first years post-surgery and iii) to explore the proportion of patients after HA for whom acetabular erosion was the main reason for conversion surgery from HA to THA. A secondary objective is to assess the observer reliability of, and explore the association between, the Baker classification grading and Köhler line measurements. All participants approached for participation in the main phase of the study will be asked to give their written informed consent to use their patient data. Patients who are willing to participate will also be asked to complete a short paper survey to collect data that is not available from their health records.

Perfect Fit: Evaluation of a Virtual Coach for Smoking Cessation and Physical Activity

The leading cause of disease burden across the globe is cardiovascular disease (CVD). Important modifiable behavioral CVD risk factors include, amongst others, smoking and low physical activity (PA). Individuals with a low socioeconomic position (SEP) often have a less favorable profile of risk factors, resulting in a higher disease burden and premature death. There is a need for cost-effective multi-behavior interventions that target one or more risk factors. eHealth applications are increasingly being used to offer behavior change interventions. Potential benefits include accessibility, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and increased disease self-management. However, eHealth interventions are often static and thereby less effective, and also frequently developed without (sufficiently) engaging end-users. Involving end-users, including those from lower SEP groups, and other relevant stakeholders can help to optimize the adoption and adherence to the eHealth intervention and result in the maintenance of healthy behavior. The Perfect Fit intervention is the result of interdisciplinary collaboration, and the personalized eHealth intervention supports adult smokers to stop smoking and increase their PA using a virtual coach. We primarily aim to examine the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary effectiveness of the Perfect Fit intervention. A mixed-method single-arm pre-post intervention study will be used. The intervention, delivered through a virtual coach, has a personalized duration and intensity, but will last on average 16 weeks.
