NCT ID: NCT04394013 Completed - Mental Health Issue Clinical Trials

A Web-Based Gentle Body Stretching to Alleviate Loneliness and Improve Mental Fitness During COVID-19 Isolation Period

Start date: August 26, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals are having to stay at home in quarantine to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. Depending on the number of occupants and the dwelling space available, this can lead to household crowding, which can have an effect on mental health. In addition, the closing of leisure facilities, including restaurants, cafes and, with the need to self-isolate and socially distance, has led to loneliness. The focus on "loneliness" has recently been on a rise, and being described as an epidemic, especially when it has been shown to be associated with various diseases as well as increased risk of mortality. Studies conducted on participants in isolation has shown increased mental health issues including anxiety, stress and depression. Mindfulness intervention has been shown to alleviate mental health issues including loneliness. However, to date, there is limited studies examining the effectiveness of a remote mindfulness intervention. This proposal aims to deliver a remote mindfulness program that can be accessible by participants easily and even during the isolation period. This intervention will investigate the effectiveness and safety in elevating mental health issues faced by the general population.

NCT ID: NCT04390165 Completed - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Start date: June 6, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The Malaysian COVID-19 Anosmia Study is a nationwide multicentre observational study to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of olfactory and gustatory/taste disturbances in COVID-19 infection in Malaysia, and to evaluate the predictive value of screening for these symptoms in COVID-19 infection. NCT ID: NCT04378725 Completed - Smoking Clinical Trials

Evaluation of a School-based Smoking Prevention and Cessation Programme in Negeri Sembilan

Start date: January 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

School-based smoking cessation programmes stretched longer than a year had 12% reduction in preventing smoking uptake. With regards to smoking intervention programme among adolescents, there is a lack of evidences regarding its long-term effectiveness. This was due to lack of clear guidelines, methodological issues and the fact that adolescents were likely to be sporadic or non-daily smoker, leading to discrepancies in their self-reported claim. Adolescent's smoking relapse rate was at 47% while those who never smoke have a 13% chance to become smoker. Light and regular smokers have 30% and 75% chance becoming an adult smoker respectively. A review paper in smoking research in Malaysia showed that the provision of anti-smoking education in school was associated with reduced susceptibility in female smoking.Male students perceived printable media, radio and the Internet as effective in delivering anti-smoking messages.School-based smoking cessation programme has been shown to be cost-effective in helping the students to quit smoking both in developed and developing countries. For this reason, it is essential to explore what are the factors that amplify the success rate of smoking cessation effect of the KOTAK programme.
