There are about 2118 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Malaysia. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
To compare the use of transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) of cervix to the Bishops score prior to induction of labour in term pregnancies, and the ability to predict Caesarean delivery for failure to progress.
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of danicopan as add-on therapy to a complement component 5 (C5) inhibitor (eculizumab or ravulizumab) in participants with PNH who have clinically evident EVH.
It is important to bring the blood glucose levels of those with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) back to normal levels as this can stop the condition from worsening and prevent other conditions that are related to T2DM from developing. One way to maintain healthy blood glucose level is the use of the glycaemic index (GI), which ranks food according to how the body responds to its carbohydrate content. Low GI foods corresponds to low increase in blood glucose levels. Calamansi is a citrus that is believed not to induce an increase in blood glucose levels. Since beverages from calamansi are available and diabetes is a health concern in the community, it is important to investigate the effect of consuming this drink. Finger prick blood were tested in order to obtain the blood glucose levels for calculating the GI for the calamansi drink.
Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is defined as nausea and/or vomiting occurring within 24 hours after surgery, it commonly affects 20-30% patients but as high as 70-80% patients who are deemed high risk for PONV may be affected. PONV may cause unpleasant complications such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, suture dehiscence, aspiration of gastric contents, delayed recovery and prolonged hospital stay. Standard guideline recommended combination of anti-emetics to prevent PONV in high risk patients. The commonly used agents are dexamethasone and ondansetron which are cheaper although they are proven to be less effective as single agent when compared with newer agent such as palonosetron. As an adjunct or alternative to pharmacological treatment, acupressure P6 point has gained increasing attention for its possible value in preventing PONV. It is proven that acupressure reduced the incidences of PONV when combined with pharmacological treatment. It is postulated that acupressure active Aβ and Aδ fibres and stimulate the release of β-endorphine from hypothalamus. In addition, it is believed that acupressure might act on dopaminergic, serotonergic and norepinerphrinergic fibres which might has a role in PONV prevention.
The percentage of hypertension among adults aged 18 is relatively high which is about 30% in Malaysia. Uncontrolled hypertension will increase the risk of diseases especially cardiovascular disease. However, adults still lack awareness about the importance of knowledge of hypertension. In between, online health information seeking and the use of social media to gather health information have been quite a norm among students. The wide use of this platform has been proven in various researches and studies. This study will be conducted among the undergraduate students in FMHS, UPM to look at the various socio-demographic factors associated with their level of knowledge on hypertension. Therefore, this may lead to a need to plan awareness programs on hypertension and to increase the knowledge of hypertension among health science students in the future. A cross-sectional study design will be done for this study. All undergraduate students in FMHS, UPM will be selected through simple random sampling. Online questionnaires will be given via the selected student email platform. However, there are limitations for this study where we only focus on the students of FMHS, UPM. Hence, the results of this study may be limited to them only. The causal relationship cannot be determined by this study design as well. The purpose of this study is to determine the social media use, online health information seeking practices with knowledge on hypertension among undergraduate students in FMHS, UPM, and its associated factors
A double blinded randomised placebo controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of probiotics on constipation symptoms and whole gut transit time in patients with Parkinson's disease.PD patients with constipation were randomized to receive a multi-strain probiotic (Lactobacillus spp and Bifidobacterium spp at 30 X 109 CFU) with fructo-oligosaccaride (FOS) or placebo (fermented milk) twice daily for 8 weeks. Primary outcomes include changes in the presence of constipation symptoms using 9 items of Garrigues Questionnaire (GQ), which included an item on bowel opening frequency. Secondary and exploratory outcomes include whole gut transit time (WGTT), quality of life (PDQ39-SI), motor (MDS-UPDRS) and non-motor symptoms (NMSS).
Coronavirus disease 2019 (abbreviated "COVID- 19") is a pandemic respiratory disease that is caused by a novel coronavirus and was first detected in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The disease is highly infectious, and its main clinical symptoms include fever, dry cough, fatigue, myalgia, and dyspnoea.1 In China, 18.5% of the patients with COVID-19 developed to the severe stage, which is characterized by acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock, difficult-to-tackle metabolic acidosis, and bleeding and coagulation dysfunction. After China, COVID-19 spread across the world and many governments implemented unprecedented measures like suspension of public transportation, the closing of public spaces, close management of communities, and isolation and care for infected people and suspected cases. The Malaysian government had enforced Movement Control Order (MCO) from 18th March to 4th May 2020 and henceforth Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) until 9th June 2020. The battle against COVID-19 is still continuing in Malaysia and all over the world. Due to the CMO and CMCO in the country, public and private universities have activated the e-learning mode for classes and as the government ordered, universities are closed and no face-to-face activities allowed. This has forced students of all disciplines including dentistry to stay at home which are wide-spread across Malaysia and shift to e- learning mode. To guarantee the final success for fight against COVID-19, regardless of their education status, students' adherence to these control measures are essential, which is largely affected by their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) towards COVID-19 in accordance with KAP theory. Once the restrictions are eased students have to come back and resume their clinical work in the campus. Hence, in this study we assessed the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) towards COVID-19 and the students preference for online learning.
Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a significant worldwide medical problem. GSK3228836 demonstrated target engagement in CHB participants who were not on treatment and in CHB participants on stable nucleos(t)ide therapy. This study is intended to evaluate if treatment with GSK3228836 can achieve sustained virologic response (SVR), that is hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) less than (<) lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ) and HBV deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) <LLOQ sustained for 24 weeks post-GSK3228836 treatment end. In addition, the study will also evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of GSK3228836 in the 4 dosing regimens. This study will assess the efficacy and safety of treatment with GSK3228836 in two populations of participants with CHB; participants on stable nucleos(t)ide treatment (Cohort 1) and participants who are not currently on nucleos(t)ide therapy (Cohort 2). For each population, participants will be randomized into one of the 4 different parallel arms to receive treatment. The study will consist of a screening, treatment, and post-treatment follow-up phase. Approximately, 440 participants will be enrolled in the study.
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains as one of leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality, with postpartum period carries the greatest risk. Perinatal thromboprophylaxis is often administered based on risk-factor assessment. Low molecular weight heparin has a proven safety profile in obstetrics population, however its porcine derived content may lead to reduced uptake amongst certain religious groups. The investigators aimed to evaluate the safety of fondaparinux as an alternative postpartum thromboprophylaxis. The investigators planned a prospective, single arm, open label study. Women who fulfilled the criteria for post natal thromboprophylaxis based on the 2015 RCOG guidelines were recruited. Each patient would receive subcutaneous injection of Fondaparinux, 2.5mg daily for 10 days. The investigators would conduct a telephone interview on day 10 post delivery and six week outpatient review in clinic.
The 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic has had far-reaching consequences beyond the spread of the disease. Quarantine measures during a public health pandemic can be particularly detrimental to urban poor families and affect the dietary diversity and food security. This can disproportionately affect young children aged 6 and below, and severely impact those <2 years. Sudden unemployment may result in an unexpected reduction in income that will place pressure on daily budgets for food. Children of families may not have access to foods of adequate diversity that will enable them to meet their macro and micronutrient requirements for growth and development, especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO). The study plans to monitor and evaluate dietary diversity in young children's food intake after the MCO and use the collected information to direct targeted food aid to address observed macro- and micronutrient deficiencies among the urban vulnerable group.
