NCT ID: NCT00975195 Completed - Clinical trials for Pulmonary Disease, Chronic Obstructive

Inhaled Corticosteroid Withdrawal in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Start date: February 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This is a randomised study to be conducted in patients with severe to very severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to establish whether there is a need for these patients to be continuously treated with an inhaled corticosteroid on top of two potent long-acting bronchodilators. The study also aims to identify the type of patients who are likely to benefit from inhaled corticosteroid maintenance therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00975000 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Kidney Disease

Treatment of Autonomous Hyperparathyroidism in Post Renal Transplant Recipients

Start date: December 3, 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is common in people with a kidney transplant. Patients with HPT often have high parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels and may have large parathyroid glands in the neck. Patients with HPT can develop bone disease (osteodystrophy). This bone disease can cause bone pain, fractures, and poor formation of red blood cells. Other problems from HPT may include increases in blood levels of calcium (hypercalcemia) and low blood levels of phosphorus (hypophosphatemia). The high calcium levels may cause calcium to deposit in body tissues. Calcium deposits can cause arthritis (joint pain and swelling), muscle inflammation, itching, gangrene (death of soft tissue), heart and lung problems or kidney transplant dysfunction (worsening of kidney transplant function). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of cinacalcet (Sensipar/Mimpara) on high calcium levels in the blood in patients with HPT after a kidney transplant.

NCT ID: NCT00974909 Completed - Fecal Incontinence Clinical Trials

Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation in the Treatment of Fecal Incontinence

Start date: October 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Background of the study: Fecal incontinence is a complex problem. The social consequences of this problem result in a lower quality of life. The exact prevalence of FI is unknown, literature reports vary from 13-19%. There are variable treatment options depending on the patient and the etiology of the FI. Dietary manipulation, pharmacological intervention, pelvic floor physiotherapy, as well as surgical interventions are currently used to treat FI. A promising current treatment is Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS). The nerves in the spine that control bowel function also have branches which go to the ankle. Stimulating these nerves in the ankle has shown to be an effective treatment for FI in the short-term. The treatment has been shown to be safe and well tolerated by subjects with almost no morbidity in prior urology trials. Objective of the study: The objective of this study is to show that the results of PTNS are based on the treatment of electrical stimulation and not on a placebo effect with a sham treatment. Study design: This study is a multicenter, single-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Primary study parameters/outcome of the study: The percentage of patients experiencing a ≥ 50% decrease in incontinence episodes from baseline after 9 weeks of treatment. Secondary study parameters/outcome of the study (if applicable): Mean change in the Cleveland Clinic Florida Fecal Incontinence Score (CCF-FI Score) Mean change in Quality of Life scores in validated QoL questionnaires (SF-36, Digestive Health Status Instrument (DHSI), and Fecal Incontinence Quality of life) Subject's and Physician's Global Impression

NCT ID: NCT00974714 Completed - Clinical trials for Hypertension in Pregnancy

L-arginine Effects on Chronic Hypertension in Pregnancy

Start date: September 2007
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of oral L-arginine administration on pregnant women at second trimester of gestation with chronic hypertension, respect with placebo.

NCT ID: NCT00974311 Completed - Clinical trials for Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer

Safety and Efficacy Study of MDV3100 in Patients With Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer Who Have Been Previously Treated With Docetaxel-based Chemotherapy

AFFIRM
Start date: September 30, 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This is a phase 3 study to compare the clinical benefit of MDV3100 versus placebo in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer who have been previously treated with docetaxel-based chemotherapy.

NCT ID: NCT00974181 Completed - Clinical trials for Treatment of Symptomatic Ischemic Heart Disease

The European Cobalt STent With Antiproliferative for Restenosis Trial (EuroSTAR Trial)

Start date: January 2004
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Two consecutive cohorts of subjects were each treated with the CoStar stent loaded with a different paclitaxel dose regimen. The first 145 subjects (Arm I), enrolled between 20 January 2004 and 26 May 2004, were treated with 10 µg paclitaxel and the subsequent 137 subjects (Arm II), enrolled between 15 December 2004 and 9 March 2005, were treated with 30 µg paclitaxel. Both dose formulations eluted over 30 days (in-vitro). Subjects in both arms completed clinical follow-up at 1, 6 and 12 months post-index procedure, with angiographic follow-up at 6 months as outlined in the original study protocol. Based on results from previous studies and the initial EuroSTAR Trial results, Conor Medsystems decided to pursue the dosage used in Arm I, 10 μg/30 days, as the commercial dose formulation for the CoStar® stent. The EuroSTAR Trial addendum was proposed for the purpose of evaluating the long-term clinical outcomes of the CoStar stent.

NCT ID: NCT00972283 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

Comparison of NN1250 With Insulin Glargine Plus Insulin Aspart With/Without Metformin and With/Without Pioglitazone in Type 2 Diabetes

BEGIN™
Start date: September 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This trial is conducted in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the United States of America (USA). The aim of this clinical trial is to compare NN1250 (insulin degludec (IDeg)) with insulin glargine (IGlar) plus insulin aspart (IAsp) with/without metformin and with/without pioglitazone in subjects with type 2 diabetes (main period) followed by investigating the long-term safety in terms of comparing NN1250 with insulin glargine plus insulin aspart with or without metformin and with or without pioglitazone in subjects with type 2 diabetes. All oral anti-diabetic drug (OAD) treatment will be discontinued, if applicable, when trial participant enters the trial (NN1250-3582) with the exception of metformin and pioglitazone. Subjects who consent to participate in the extension trial (NN1250-3667) will continue to receive the treatment to which they were randomly allocated in the 52 week trial NN1250-3582. The main period is registered internally at Novo Nordisk as NN1250-3582 while the extension period is registered as NN1250-3667.
