The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of Faslodex (fulvestrant) to Aromasin (exemestane) in hormone receptor positive postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer. Patients will be treated until disease progression or until the investigator has determined that treatment is not in the best interest of the patient, whichever occurs first.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy such as gemcitabine use different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving these treatments after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. It is not yet known whether giving gemcitabine together with radiation therapy is more effective than gemcitabine alone following surgery in treating pancreatic cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II/III trial is studying how well giving gemcitabine together with radiation therapy works and compares it to gemcitabine alone in treating patients who have undergone surgery for pancreatic cancer.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy such as irinotecan, capecitabine, leucovorin, and fluorouracil use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Celecoxib may stop the growth of colorectal cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. It is not yet known which combination chemotherapy regimen with or without celecoxib is more effective in treating metastatic colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying two combination chemotherapy regimens and celecoxib to see how well they work compared to two combination chemotherapy regimens alone in treating patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.
The purpose of this study is to allow patients to receive VELCADE⢠(bortezomib) for Injection who experienced progressive disease(PD) while receiving high-dose dexamethasone from the M34101-039 study.
RATIONALE: Antibiotics such as amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, and moxifloxacin may be effective in preventing or controlling fever and neutropenia in patients with cancer. It is not yet known whether moxifloxacin alone is more effective than amoxicillin combined with ciprofloxacin in treating neutropenia and fever. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well moxifloxacin works and compares it to ciprofloxacin together with amoxicillin in treating neutropenia and fever in patients with cancer.
This study will determine if NXY-059 will improve recovery from an acute stroke. The study is designed to look at both overall recovery and recovery of motor function, for example muscle strengthen and coordination.
Pompe disease (also known as glycogen storage disease type II, "GSD-II") is caused by a deficiency of a critical enzyme in the body called acid alpha-glucosidase (GAA). Normally, GAA is used by the body's cells to break down glycogen (a stored form of sugar) within specialized structures called lysosomes. In patients with Pompe disease, an excessive amount of glycogen accumulates and is stored in various tissues, especially heart and skeletal muscle, which prevents their normal function. This study is being conducted to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of recombinant human acid alpha-glucosidase (rhGAA) as a potential enzyme replacement therapy for Pompe disease. Patients diagnosed with infantile-onset Pompe disease who are less than or equal to 6 months old will be studied.

RATIONALE: Ultraviolet light therapy uses light and drugs that make cancer cells more sensitive to light to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known whether ultraviolet light therapy is more effective with or without bexarotene in treating mycosis fungoides. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of ultraviolet light therapy using methoxsalen with or without bexarotene in treating patients who have mycosis fungoides.

It is not yet known if chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy is more effective with or without efaproxiral in treating non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy with or without efaproxiral in treating patients who have stage III non-small cell lung cancer.
