NCT ID: NCT01108952 Not yet recruiting - Trauma Clinical Trials

The Impact of Chemotherapy on Memory Function and the Development of Traumatic Symptoms in Children With Cancer

Start date: January 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Background: While treatment for pediatric cancer has improved significantly over the past 40 years, the neurotoxic side-effects of the chemotherapy agents themselves are now being recognized. Two drugs suspected of having acute impact on memory performance in children are methotrexate (MTX) and steroids (GCs). In addition, new evidence suggests that this neurotoxicity might actually protect these children from traumatization. Working hypothesis and aims: This project aims to examine the acute impact of MTX and GC chemotherapy on memory performance in children and young adults with cancer, and the subsequent impact on the development of traumatic symptoms. We hypothesize that MTX and GCs will each produce acute declines in memory performance and that children with greater reductions in memory performance will have fewer traumatic symptoms. Methods: The investigators will recruit 45 children being treated with MTX or GCs at Dana Children's Hospital. To determine acute impact on memory, a battery of memory tests will be administered before and after a cycle of MTX and before and after a cycle of GCs. In addition, traumatic symptoms will be assessed at each post-chemotherapy evaluation point Expected results: The investigators expect poorer memory performance after MTX and after GCs and that these performance declines will correlate with lower rates of traumatic symptoms. Importance: The immediate impact of MTX and GCs on memory is not well known, especially in children. In addition, recent findings have led us to hypothesize that chemotherapy-induced deficits in memory function would paradoxically protect these patients from the traumatization often associated with cancer and its treatment. The proposed study will test this novel hypothesis for the first time.

NCT ID: NCT01107132 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Blood-retinal Barrier Imaging and Neuropsychiatric Sequela in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Start date: May 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

In Type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients we will: 1. quantify vasculopathy and blood-retinal barrier (BRB) leakage 2. measure blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability and neuroanatomical changes 3. correlate BRB pathology with BBB breakdown, inflammatory markers and neuropsychiatric sequela

Assessing the relation between the Pelvis diameters measured by the LaborPro, and the mode of delivery(normal vaginal delivery/instrumental delivery/Caesarean section.

NCT ID: NCT01089283 Not yet recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Ioflupane I123 (DaTSCAN) and Positron Emission Tomography-computed Tomography Fludeoxyglucose (PET-CT FDG) to Assess Brain Function of Parkinson Patients With Different Genetic Characteristics

Start date: March 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Parkinson disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative illnesses. The disease is characterized by decrease in dopamine levels and decrease in the number of dopaminergic neurons and dopamine receptors. There are gene mutations that increase the risk for the disease. Two of those mutations are on the LRRK2 gene and on GBA gene. It is yet unknown if there is a difference between the metabolic brain function of Parkinson patients that carry one of the two mutations to Parkinson patients with no known mutation. Participants: diagnosed Parkinson patients that carry a gene mutation in either LRRK2 or GBA genes, Parkinson patients with no known mutation and healthy volunteers as a control group. The participants will go through both examinations DAT SCAN and PET CT SCAN at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center Nuclear Medicine Institute. The examination results will be given to the participants by a doctor from the neurology department.

NCT ID: NCT01089270 Not yet recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Ioflupane I123 (DaTSCAN) and Positron Emission Tomography-computed Tomography Fludeoxyglucose (PET-CT FDG) to Assess Brain Function of Parkinson Patients' First Degree Relatives

Start date: March 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Parkinson Disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative illnesses. First degree relatives of Parkinson patient are in high risk for developing the disease. We will try to detect early changes in brain metabolism before the appearance of Parkinson symptoms. Participants: first degree relatives of diagnosed Parkinson patients that carry a gene mutation in either LRRK2 or GBA genes. The examination results will be given to the participants by a doctor from the neurology department.

Start date: April 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the composite Nail - the Quantum interlocking intramedullary nailing system in the reduction of humeral fractures.

NCT ID: NCT01085149 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Hypercholesterolemia

The Effect Of Simvastatin On Bone Remodeling In Socket Of Mandibular Teeth

Start date: May 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Simvastatin has been reported to promote osteoblastic activity and inhibit osteoclastic activity by enhancing the expression of BMP2. There have been many studies demonstrating the bone-promoting effect of local application various animal models including after application into socket of teeth in a rat. the purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of slow release topical simvastatin in socket of mandibular teeth on bone remodeling in the socket

NCT ID: NCT01084356 Not yet recruiting - Parathyroid Adenoma Clinical Trials

Evaluation of a New CZT System

Start date: March 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The purpose of the study is to check if the new CZT system has an advantage in detection of small osseous processes, thyroid adenomas, parathyroid adenomas and detection of sentinel node, in comparison with the techniques in use. Participants: 100 subjects male and female that come to the institute of nuclear medicine for routine screening examinations. The CZT screening takes 10 minutes and does not require any extra intervention to the routine screening.

NCT ID: NCT01083992 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Role of Vitagliptin and Vitamin D in the Treatment of Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Start date: April 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary choices are leading to a weight gain epidemic and increasing the risk for developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The strong relationship between insulin resistance and NAFLD suggests that adding Vitamin D TO insulin sensitizing therapies such as Galvus (vitagliptin) might be beneficial in the prevention or improvement in NAFLD. Considering the close relationship between NAFLD and T2DM and lipid metabolism, we assume that adding vitamin D to Galvus, may be effective for NAFLD by improving lipid metabolism and by improving type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
