There are about 9745 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Israel. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This research looks for markers in the blood of people with spinal cord injury that may be a sign of injury severity, or serve as a clue to the degree of recovery. Investigators would also like to compare the marker profile of these patient with that of other neurological conditions such as stroke and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Patients participating in this trial will be those accepted to neuro-rehabilitation in Sheba medical center, Israel. They will join the trial at their arrival to the ward, no less than 2 week after the beginning of their condition, but no later than 3 months. Patients will be examined by the research staff three times: 1. At arrival, the patients will be neurologically examined and their functional abilities will be assessed. Blood will be drawn and sent to the lab. 2. At 6 months after the beginning of the neurological condition the same will be repeated: the patients will be neurologically examined and their functional abilities will be assessed, and blood will be drawn and sent to the lab. 3. The final examination will take place 1 year after the beginning of the neurological condition. This time only the neurological and functional abilities will be assessed without blood tests. The blood samples will be tested in the research lab. Then investigators shall compare the clinical findings with the laboratory findings, and see if any of the markers found reflect the injury severity or predict the recovery.
The purpose of the registry is to assess workload of a Home Monitoring based follow up for Biotronik ICD and CRTD patients.
Glucose has analgesic and calming effects in newborns. To date, it is not known whether the beneficial effects extend to care giving procedures that are performed after painful procedures. The investigators objective is to determine the effect of glucose 25% analgesia in comparison to Materna RTF Stage 1 for procedural pain on infant pain responses during a subsequent care giving procedure.
Today, no non-verbal auditory stimuli that assess mental processing are available in Israel. The goal of this study is to make available a validated set of auditory stimuli in Israel. We created a computerized Hebrew version of the Montreal Affective Voices (MAV). The MAV is a novel tool for assessing mental processing. The MAV consists of 90 nonverbal affect bursts corresponding to nine different emotions (such as anger, fear, happiness etc.) recorded by ten different actors. The uniqueness of these affective bursts is that they do not contain verbal context, but rather express affective moods using the vowel /a/ (as in "apple"). In this study, the investigators will verify the new Hebrew version of MAV in healthy control groups. Next, the investigators will compare the mental processing ability in young vs. old population, using the MAV test. In addition, the investigators will assess mental processing in two pathologic study groups (Parkinson's disease, major depressive disorder) using the MAV test. The investigators intend to use the MAV tool in future research in Parkinson's disease and depression.
This study evaluates the effects of psychological and pharmacological treatment of regular users of cannabis and psychostimulants in a treatment center (Kfar Izun) in Israel. The participants will undergo psychological evaluation before and during treatment and follow up at 4 months. Ten participants will undergo brain imaging of the dopamine receptor D2 in order to evaluate the effects of treatment on dopamine turnover in the brain. A control group of psychiatric in-patients undergoing treatment for psychiatric illness with be recruited from Geha Hospital in Israel. It is predicted that successful treatment of regular users of cannabis will be resulted in improvement in anxiety, depression and psychotic symptoms as well as in upregulation of dopamine turnover in participants that will undergo brain imaging.
The aim of this study is to identify factors associated with hyponatremia among patients hospitalized in the internal medicine ward. Consequtive patients hospitalized because of hyponatremia will be recruited. Follow up will include clinical factors such as background diseases, complete drug history, blood tests including Biochemistry tests (Sodium, renal function), endocrinological evaluation, thyroid function tests, cortisol, urinary sodium on addmition. One month following discharge follow up Sodium level will be taken.
Urinary stress incontinence is defined as leakage of urine during stress. Urinary stress incontinence is a health problem with social, economic and psychological consequences. The appearance of Urinary stress incontinence post vaginal wall prolapse repair is a known phenomena. Part of the cases relate to pre-surgical occult Urinary stress incontinence which has been asymptomatic, and part of the cases relate to de-novo urinary stress incontinence post surgery. Latest studies have demonstrated 11-22% rate of post surgical urinary stress incontinence. The aim of this study is to examine the efficacy of transobturator tension free vaginal tape (TVT-O) among women who intend to undergo vaginal wall repair by a vaginal approach.
It is known that several psychological and medical comorbidities are frequently found among children suffering from autistic spectrum disorders. Our aim is to investigate which comorbidities are most common among those children and whether there are differences among the different ethnic groups found in Israel.
Dural or lumbar puncture (LP), the passing of a needle into the space of the spinal cord, is a common procedure in everyday clinical practice. The most common use for LP is to measure the spinal fluid pressure and sample spinal fluid for laboratory analysis. However, it is also used for therapeutic purposes, such as administering chemotherapy or spinal anesthesia. A notorious side effect of dural puncture is headache that ranges from mild to debilitating and may last for several days following the procedure. Among diagnosed patients, 39% experience at least 1 week of impaired ability to perform activities of daily living. The likelihood of developing a headache after dural puncture depends on a number of factors. As fluid leak is assumed to be the culprit mechanism in this headache strategies to minimize the leak seem to offer the best path to lowering the incidence of headache after diagnostic LP, the commonest clinical context of dural puncture in medical practice. Lumbar puncture is a highly stressful event for most patients. As both pain and anxiety cause adrenergic stimulation, they also cause an increase in ICP. We believe that this mild increase in ICP, occurring before the puncture as well as during the puncture itself may exacerbate the pressure difference between the CSF space and the epidural space and so worsen the CSF leak Furthermore, this excess pressure, although mild, might cause the dural puncture hole to widen slightly and so further augment the leak and possibly even prolong it. Furthermore, the very anticipation of pain causes a rise in neurotransmitters that may cause a sensitization effect and worsen pain. This increase in adrenergic drive as well as the sensitization to pain can be effectively blunted by the periprocedural use of mild IV sedation. Benzodiazepines, with their sedative-hypnotic qualities are well suited for this task. This study aims to test the effect of mild peri-procedural IV sedation using Midazolam on the rates of headache after diagnostic LP. Patients undergoing a diagnostic LP will be randomized into two groups. Group 1 will undergo the procedure as routinely practiced. Group 2 will be given Midazolam IV 10-5 minutes prior to the procedure and undergo the same diagnostic procedure. All patients in the study will remain under observation in the hospital for at least 6 hours. Patients will be evaluated for headache and specifically for headache. Clinical follow up will continue for 72 hours by administering a short questionnaire over the telephone.
Technetium-99m NC100692 Injection is under development as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for targeting angiogenesis associated with diseases such as primary and metastatic cancer, and for targeting active fibrosis in cardiac diseases such as developing heart failure and developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. A principle goal of imaging is identification of disease processes early in their development, at times prior to symptoms. In cancer, angiogenesis is essential for a tumour to exceed approximately 1-2 mm3 in size.As markers of angiogenesis are often expressed early in the growth of a tumour it is postulated that imaging of angiogenesis can assist in early diagnosis of cancer, relapse or spread, and monitoring response to therapy. Technetium-99m NC100692 Injection will be tested on 3 populations of pts: 1.30 patients at high risk For breast cancer 2.30 patients with breast cancer 3.15 patients with locally advanced breast cancer undergoing treatment.
