Study of the Intravitreal Implantation of NT-503-3 Encapsulated Cell Technology (ECT) for the Treatment of Recurrent Choroidal Neovascularization (CNV) Secondary to Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Prospective, multi-center 2-stage study. Stage 1 (Phase I) is open-label with all patients treated with the NT-503-3 ECT implant. Stage 1 (Phase I) patients will undergo explantation at year 2. Those who, in the opinion of the investigator, are still candidates for continued anti-VEGF therapy will be re-implanted with a new NT-503-3 investigational product and followed for an additional 12 weeks before study exit. Stage 2 (Phase II) is a separate, randomized, masked phase during which eligible patients will be randomized to the NT-503-3 group or the control group. Clinical Hypotheses: - NT-503-3 ECT is comparable to Eylea® injected intravitreally every 8 weeks in the prevention of vision loss due to recurrent CNV secondary to AMD - NT-503-3 ECT has an acceptable safety profile

Evaluating Effectiveness of Dyadic Prolonged Exposure on 2-4 Years Old vs. Toddler-parent Focused Treatment

Traumatic events have potentially debilitating long-lasting effects on the child's normal development and, therefore, should be effectively treated. Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy has been found to be effective in reducing posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in adults and in adolescents. It has not yet been tested in toddlers. The purpose of this study is to examine the treatment efficacy of 2 methods of treatment for toddlers with PTSD and their parents. A randomized control trial could examine the efficacy of PE versus dyadic play therapy (TP-CT). Exploration of these questions under more rigorous conditions would help broaden our knowledge about developmentally sensitive treatment tools for this age group. Our research hypotheses are: 1. PE would more effective than TP-CT in reducing post-traumatic symptoms in toddlers. 2. PE would more effective than TP-CT in reducing post-traumatic symptoms of the toddlers' parents. 3. These results will be preserved in a follow-up of 3-6 months post treatment. Following psychiatric assessment, 100 toddlers will be randomly assigned to PE and TP-CT (50 participants in each group).

The Effects of Methylphenidate on the Cognitive Function of Older People With Mild Cognitive Impairment

Background: The increase in life expectancy and the rise in the ratio of older to younger people in the population has resulted in an increase in the number of those suffering from a decrease in cognitive ability, such as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Methylphenidate can improve cognitive ability, mainly in memory and executive function. Working hypothesis and aims: This study examines the effect of Ritalin treatment in older people suffering from MCI. Our hypothesis is that treatment with Ritalin will improve cognitive function in those suffering from MCI, especially in the domains of attention and executive function. Methods A randomized, double-blind, case-control study. 120 patients older than 65 years of age diagnosed as suffering from MCI in the past year in geriatric assessment facilities in Beersheva. Patients will be randomized in equal groups to either the study group (Ritalin treatment) and control group (placebo). Each participant will attend the geriatric unit for four consecutive days: on the day prior to beginning the intervention participants will undergo cognitive assessment at 9:00 am. On the intervention days (days 2-4) participants will undergo cognitive assessment at 9:00 in the morning, followed by the administration (at 10:30) of different doses of Ritalin (10, 20 and 30mg) every day of intervention. Participants in the control group will receive placebo. Two hours after taking the drug or placebo participants in both groups will be assessed cognitively by means of Mindstreams and MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment). Expected results: Ritalin treatment will improve the cognitive function of the subjects, mainly in the domains of concentration and executive function
