Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block to Treat Shoulder Pain After Laparoscopic Surgery

This is a prospective double blinded randomized pilot trial to evaluate the efficacy of phenopalatine ganglion block (SPGB) block to manage shoulder tip pain (STP) after laparoscopic surgery. Patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery will be approached by a member of the research team and those found eligible for participating will be enrolled after signing an informed consent form. Patients will be randomized to have the SPGB block with saline versus active drug which contains 10% lidocaine diluted to 5%. The block will be performed , by an experienced member of the research team, and the patient will then be followed up by the investigator for any adverse events and levels of shoulder pain.

Nutrition Monitoring and Feeding Optimization With the smART+ System - Comparative Study

The smART+ is a comprehensive modular patient care system intended for ICU patients. The main purpose of the study is the optimization of the delivery of nutrition. The use of the smART+ Feeding tube includes a feature of facilitating correct tube placement and alerting when the tube is displaced during ongoing use. The system will automatically stop feeding if displacement is detected. If a massive reflux episode is detected by the system, a balloon located on the tube will automatically inflate and automatic GRV feature will open to prevent gastric content from regurgitating to the esophagus. In addition to tube placement, the system allows to obtain REE (Resting Energy Expenditure) measurements and calculates the optimized nutritional values required by the patient. Furthermore, the system optimizes feeding by compensating for any lost feeding time or discarded nutritional content that was discarded via the GRV (Gastric Residual Volume). Study participants will be randomly assigned to a study group: Group A- ICU patients receiving the investigational device ("Treated"). Group B- Control group.

Evaluation of ReX-C® System for Medication Adherence in Oncology Patients Taking Oral Oncolytics

In recent decades, an increasing number of oral anticancer medications (oral oncolytics) have been approved. Oral oncolytics now make up to 30% of the oncology market, and their use is continually expanding. Oral oncolytics can be a significant benefit for patients and providers. Patients who receive them often report a greater sense of control over their treatment, less interference with daily work and social activities, reduced travel time and costs, and the elimination of discomfort associated with an IV line. In rural areas, the oral route is crucial because the closest treatment center may be hours away and weather may complicate travel. Moreover, oral therapy is less invasive and reduces nursing time in infusion suites and risks to patients. However, making cancer treatments available in oral form transfers most of the responsibility for correct administration of the drug to the patient. The more complex the oral treatment regimen, the higher the risk of errors and non-adherence. Oral Oncolytics are high-risk and high cost drugs. Hence, with this transfer of responsibility comes the need to support patients in their adherence to the directed regimen and to effectively monitor them at home.
