Brain Responses to Visual Food Cues in Response to a Low Carbohydrate Diet

The aim is to profile and elucidate the hormonal and neurological system interaction to food related behavior. The stimulus used will include visual and taste (gustatory) stimuli. The study will profile induced correlations of metabolic parameters, gut hormones and brain region (ROI - regions of interest) activation and interaction. In this study we will use fMRI (functional MRI) to compare brain responses in obese, normal-weight and reduced weight subjects. The food stimuli will be blocked into specific categories to allow for investigation of different responses to alternating energy density foods. The response will be tested prior to and following a brief low carbohydrate dietary regimen.

Randomized, open-label, multi-center, comparative trial to assess the efficacy and safety in immunocompromised subjects with acyclovir resistant or acyclovir susceptible mucocutaneous HSV infection, treated with pritelivir 100 mg once daily (following a loading dose of 400 mg as first dose to rapidly reach steady-state plasma concentration) or investigators choice, which can be either foscarnet 40 mg/kg every 8 hours or 60 mg/kg every 12 hours, or Cidofovir iv 5 mg/kg body weight given once weekly, or Cidofovir 1% or 3% topical applied 2 to 4 times daily, or Imiquimod 5% topical 3 times per week) (provided the drug is nationally approved).

Double Blind Placebo Control Opipramol-Baclofen Treatment for Addiction

The aim of this study is examining the combination of two FDA approved drugs, Opipramol and baclofen, which may increase rehabilitation from psychoactive substances. Previous studies have indicated a connection of sigma-1 receptor to cocaine abuse and raised the possibility that these receptors as mediators of drug craving . However previous studies showed partial efficacy with no significant relapse in relapse rates. The same is true for the use of GABAb-1 receptor antagonist. Opipramol is a selective agonist for sigma-1 receptor. It is clinically used as an antidepressant and anxiolytic agent. Moreover, previous open and controlled trials indicated that the GABAb-1 antagonist baclofen partial efficacy in suppressing withdrawal symptoms in alcohol addicts and cocaine. Our studies in an animal model for addiction have shown a significant effect of the combine treatment of the indicated medications both in decreasing relapse and increase of -number of respondents.

To compare different PCV vaccination policies, by cross-sectional repeated surveillance of closely related populations living in regions with different vaccination policies. 2. To compare the epidemiology, predictors and outcomes of antibiotic resistant S. aureus and S. pneumoniae in different regions of the PICR. Study design: Annual / Biannual cross-sectional surveillance of nasal S. aureus carriage and nasopharyngeal S. pneumoniae carriage in children and one of their parents.

Staphylococcus aureus (SA) is a significant cause of community and hospital acquired infections. SA is carried by approximately 30% of healthy adults. Similar carriage rates have been reported in very young infants and newborns. Previous studies have suggested that the source of SA carriage in young children is SA carried by their mothers. Possible modes of transmission from mother to child are transmission during passage through a colonized birth canal, through lactation and/or close contact. We aim to 1) Define the route of transmission between mother and newborn. 2) Assess the dynamics of S. aureus carriage during the first years of life and specifically determine risk factors for becoming a persistent carrier of S. aureus

Direction Modulation of Muscle Synergies After a Stroke

The aim of the study is to investigate the capacity of post-stroke individual (study group) to modulate their EMG muscle activation pattern (MAP) compared to healthy individuals (control group), and to correlate these capacities with their motor impairments. Twenty post-stroke individuals and 12 healthy individuals will participate in this study. each participant will carry out hand-reaching movements in multiple directions, monitored by an EMG device. The modulation of the EMG signal will be compared between groups in terms of EMG-MAP and in terms of muscle-synergies. Additionally the MAPs and synergies of the study group will be correlated with their Fugl-Meyer (FM) assessment scores. Analysis of the muscle synergies underlying the EMG signal will be carried out by the Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) algorithm.

Effect of Nutritional Formula Supplementation on Growth Rate of Growth Hormone (GH) Treated Children With Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) After the Second Year of Therapy

The Proposed study is a double blind, randomized, placebo controlled study The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of combined Growth Hormone (GH) treatment & nutritional formula supplementation versus GH & placebo on growth parameters in 64 children with Isolated Growth Hormone Deficiency (IGHD) after the 2nd year of GH treatment. In this trial GH is a background treatment (non-investigational medicinal product. Participants may be treated with any of the commercial GH products approved in Israel for the indication of IGHD. Participants will be randomly assigned either to the intervention group or the placebo control group. Randomization for the two study groups will be made in a ratio of 1:1. Both participants and study team will be blinded to the type of treatment that each patient will receive during the study. The randomization will be done according to gender and tanner stage. Participants in the intervention groups will be treated with the study formulas and participants in the control group will be treated with a placebo low caloric formulas (Powder added to water) The study will continue for 6 months of intervention versus active placebo, with additional 6 months (an extension period), in which participants at both groups, the intervention and the placebo, will be offered to continue their participation in the study with the active study supplement.
