There are about 3753 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Hong Kong. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This is a study of the efficacy of acupuncture in children with autism.
We aim to study the efficacy of Acupuncture versus sham acupuncture in children with ASD.
An open-label, dose-adjustment, extension study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of eltrombopag for the treatment of subjects with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) who have previously been enrolled in an eltrombopag trial. This study will allow adjustment of the eltrombopag dose to achieve an individualized dose and schedule for each subject. In addition, the ability to reduce the dose of concomitant ITP medications in the presence of eltrombopag, while maintaining platelet counts = 50,000/microL will be investigated.
Rosiglitazone (RSG) has been tested in clinical studies and is approved by the FDA as a treatment for type II diabetes mellitus, a disease that occurs when the body is unable to effectively use glucose. RSG XR, the investigational drug used in this study, is an extended-release form of RSG. This study tests whether RSG XR safely provides clinical benefit to people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD) when combined with one of the currently approved AD medications, Aricept®, Razadyne® or Exelon®. RSG XR is a new approach to AD therapy and this study tests a new way to treat AD by testing whether one's genetic makeup affects the response to the study drug. Clinical data suggesting that RSG may benefit AD patients was first seen in a small study performed at the University of Washington and then from a larger GSK study conducted in Europe and New Zealand. In the first study, subjects receiving RSG once daily for 6 months scored significantly better on 3 tests of memory and thought than those who did not receive RSG. In the GSK study, those that appeared to benefit most from treatment with RSG XR had a specific genetic pattern. They did not have the gene that caused them to produce the protein apolipoprotein E e4 (APOE e4). Subjects who have the APOE e4 gene may have two copies, one from each parent, or they may have only one APOE e4 gene meaning that they inherited either the APOE e2 or APOE e3 version of the gene, instead of APOE e4, from one of their parents. Subjects with one copy of the APOE e4 gene remained at their same level of thinking ability while those with two copies of the APOE e4 gene, continued to worsen during the 6-month treatment. The current study will more directly test the effectiveness or RSG XR on people who either have or lack the APOE e4 gene.
This 36-month open-label study of adefovir dipivoxil investigates the clinical benefits of the therapy in chronic hepatitis B patients with advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis confirmed with biopsy. Primary endpoint is histological improvement defined as a decrease of Ishak Fibrosis Score by one point or more from baseline at Month 36 of adefovir dipivoxil treatment. Approximately 150 patients will be recruited in study centres in the Asia Pacific area. The patients are offered 36 months of open label adefovir dipivoxil treatment, with assessments every three months, after which there is a 6-month post study treatment follow-up prior to study completion. After the 36 months of study treatment, it is likely that the patient will benefit from continued treatment with adefovir dipivoxil. If this is the case in the investigators clinical judgement, the investigator should ensure that a routine prescription is available in a timely manner, and that no unnecessary interruption in treatment occurs.
Autism is a behaviorally defined, lifelong disorder of the brain, affecting at least 1-2 per 1000 children. There is an increasing trend of autism worldwide. However, to date, there is still no cure for this devastating childhood disease. Autism is characterized by deficit in language, social communication and repetitive behavior. It is estimated that the annual cost of care for autism is $13 billion in USA alone. Children with autism usually have associated behavioral problems such as aggressiveness, stereotypes, hyperactivity, emotional lability, and short attention span. The National Institute of Child Health & Human Development and National Institute of Deafness & Communication Disorders have jointly founded the Collaborative Programs of Excellence in Autism. One of the long-term NIH goals is to develop or refine interim treatment strategy and to develop effective biological, behavioral or alternative treatment strategy for autism. There is a dire need for early identification and treatment of children with autism. Acupuncture has been practised in China for 2 millennia. The legal status of acupuncture as a treatment technique was approved by Food & Drugs Administration in USA (1997). The therapeutic effect of acupuncture is based on stimulation at specific acupoints resulting in both local and distant effect via improving signal or modulation of electromagnetic energy. There had lack of studies of acupuncture in autism. We hope that we can study the efficacy of acupuncture in autism using clinical measurement. We hope to identify the role of acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment for autism.
To answer the question of overall benefit: risk of celecoxib when compared to two most commonly prescribe traditional (non-selective) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in the treatment of arthritis pain. For this purpose, patients with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis with or at risk of developing cardiovascular disease will be recruited. The cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and renal safety and symptomatic benefit in each treatment group will be assessed accordingly.
The purpose of this study is to assess the impact on tumor progression as evaluated by progression-free survival (PFS) of epoetin alfa plus standard supportive care as compared with standard supportive care alone (packed red blood cell (RBC) transfusions), for treating anemia according to label guidance in patients with metastatic breast cancer receiving standard chemotherapy.
The purpose of this study is to compare eritoran tetrasodium and placebo in patients with severe sepsis and to demonstrate a reduction of mortality from all causes.
To evaluate efficacy and safety of pazopanib compared to placebo in patients with locally advanced and/ or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Approximately 350-400 eligible patients will be stratified and randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive either 800 mg pazopanib once daily or matching placebo. The study treatment will continue until patients experience disease progression, unacceptable toxicity or death. Primary objective of the study is to evaluate and compare the two treatment arms for progression-free survival. Principal secondary objective is to evaluate and compare the two treatment arms with respect to overall survival. Other objectives are overall response rate [complete response (CR) + partial response (PR)], rate of CR + PR + 6 months stable disease, and the incidence, severity and causality of adverse events and serious adverse events. Safety and efficacy assessments will be regularly performed on all patients. An Independent Data Monitoring Committee will be established to monitor safety during the course of the study and to evaluate interim efficacy data on overall survival.
