Primary objective: - To evaluate the effect of lixisenatide versus placebo over a period of 24 weeks on glycemic control, as evaluated by HbA1c reduction, in older type 2 diabetes patients (T2DM) who are inadequately controlled with their current anti-diabetic treatment regimen. Main secondary objective: - To assess the safety and tolerability of lixisenatide compared to placebo in older T2DM patients (including occurrence of documented (Plasma Glucose PG < 60 mg/dL) symptomatic hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal side effects). Other secondary objectives: - To assess the effect of lixisenatide compared to placebo after 24-week treatment on: - Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) - During liquid standardized breakfast meal challenge test : 2 hour- PPG and Plasma Glucose Excursion - 7-point Self-monitored plasma glucose (SMPG) profile - Body weight - Change in total daily dose of basal insulin (if taken) - Percentage of patients requiring rescue therapy - Safety and tolerability - To assess lixisenatide pharmacokinetic profile - To assess anti-lixisenatide antibody development.
Kidney transplantation is the renal replacement therapy of choice for the majority of patients with end-stage kidney disease. Epidemiological studies of kidney allograft recipients can aid in the understanding of cause and effect of health and disease post-transplantation. The combination of health care and information technology has made the potential of transplant professionals to use health information effectively crucial to guide kidney transplant management. The aim of this study is to undertake an observational cohort study of kidney allograft recipients, supported by linking analysis across different database sources, to provide a comprehensive biomedical dataset of information.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of GSK Biologicals' HZ/su vaccine in adults with solid tumours undergoing chemotherapy.
Chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a relatively frequent eye disease that often occurs in patients in the professionally active age range. In this disease, there is pooling of fluid under the central retina (the macula). This specific form of macular degeneration can cause permanent vision loss, image distortion, loss of color and contrast vision due to this fluid under the retina. An early diagnosis and treatment may improve the visual outcome and quality of life. To date there is no international consensus on the optimal treatment of chronic CSC. Many retrospective studies suggest that treatment with photodynamic therapy (PDT) is effective in chronic CSC. Micropulse laser (ML) therapy may also be effective in this disease. The proposed study is the first prospective randomized controlled trial in chronic CSC. In this study, participants with chronic CSC will be randomized into two treatment groups, PDT or ML treatment. The trial is a superiority study, because retrospective studies suggest that PDT treatment may be more effective than ML treatment. Therefore, PDT treatment is challenged against ML treatment. The null hypothesis of the study is that PDT treatment is more effective than ML treatment in patients with active chronic CSC. The alternative hypothesis is that PDT treatment is not more effective than ML treatment in these patients. Treatment success will not only be based on anatomical improvement, but also on functional endpoints, which are most important from a patient's perspective. The study will take place in five large tertiary referral university hospitals in Europe that have extensive experience with conducting clinical trials (in Nijmegen, the Netherlands; Cologne, Germany; Leiden, the Netherlands; Oxford, United Kingdom; and Paris, France). Each of these centers has confirmed sufficient funding to conduct the research. The study will last max. 8 months per participant. Each participant will come for 5 (in the case of 1 treatment) or 7 visits (in the case of 2 treatments). Study evaluations will be mostly part of regular clinical care. The whole study will last for max. 24 months.
The purpose of this randomized clinical trial is to compare the clinical effectiveness of three treatments involving different caries management strategies (conventional restorations, Hall technique, and Non-Restorative Caries Treatment) to the management of class II carious primary molars in children (3-8 year-old).
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (E/C/F/TAF) fixed-dose combination (FDC) versus elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (E/C/F/TDF) in HIV-1 positive, antiretroviral treatment-naive adults.
ASP3652 is being investigated as a novel treatment for chronic pelvic pain. This is a two-part study to investigate the drug-drug potential of ASP3652. Part I of the study evaluates the effect of gemfibrozil twice daily on the single dose of ASP3652. Part 2 evaluates the effect of multiple doses of ASP3652 twice daily on the single dose of repaglinide. Subjects participating in one part of the study may not participate in the other part.
The goal of this study is to determine the impact of apheresis on clinical parameters and symptoms of patients with refractory angina and raised Lp(a). The investigators will conduct a prospective, randomised controlled crossover study of 20 patients with refractory angina and raised Lp(a), randomised to undergoing lipoprotein apheresis weekly for three months or sham apheresis weekly for three months with assessment of myocardial perfusion, carotid atherosclerosis, endothelial vascular function, thrombogenesis, exercise capacity, angina symptoms and quality of life at the beginning and end of treatment. Patients will then crossover to the opposite study arm with the protocol repeated. The hypothesis is that the above parameters will be improved by lipoprotein apheresis in patients with raised Lp(a) and Refractory Angina. Investigators will also test for the genotypic presence of apolipoprotein(a) gene (LPA) locus variants (rs10455872 and rs3798220) which are thought to be associated with an increased level of Lp(a) and an increased risk of coronary disease.
Primary objective: To evaluate compliance of LoFric Origo in a general intermittent catheterization (IC) population with the use of LoFric Origo, by means of a subjective assessment scale Secondary objectives: - To evaluate the subject's perception associated with the use of the LoFric Origo, by means of a subjective assessment scale - To evaluate the subject's discomfort associated with the use of the LoFric Origo, by means of a subjective assessment scale - To observe and collect data on bladder regimen/IC frequency by assessments of descriptive data of demography, catheter therapy, history and other patient reported outcomes. Study Design: Non-interventional study, multicentre, prospective study. Target Subject Population: General intermittent catheterization, LoFric Origo male users. Medical Device: LoFric Origo Study Variable(s): - Primary variable: Use or No use of LoFric Origo after 8 weeks. - Secondary variable(s): patient reported questionnaire with regards to perception, discomfort, diagnose, health status, catheter history and other patient reported outcomes.
The purpose of the study is to look at the levels of three HIV medications: tenofovir, emtricitabine, and rilpivirine in blood after the drug intake has been stopped in order to understand how long these drugs persist in the blood. The study will specifically look at blood levels of these three drugs (taken as a 3-in-1 tablet) after taking them every day for 14 days. The duration of the subjects involvement in the study will be up to 23 days plus a screening visit which will take place up to 4 weeks prior to the start of the study, and a follow up visit which takes place 16-22 days after the last dose of study medication. This study is not randomised which means that all participants will receive all study medications in the same order. The participant and the study doctor will know which study medications you are taking at all times during the study.
