The number of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) continuing to rise, this pandemic is expected to reach 700 million people by 2045. T2DM is a metabolic condition characterized by progressive insulin resistance and chronic hyperglycemia (high blood glucose concentrations). Hyperglycaemia increases the risk of both micro- and macrovascular damage, whilst interventions that reduce blood glucose mitigate this risk. Weight loss, achieved through exercise and dietary modification, is effective at reducing hyperglycaemia. However, despite the clear benefits of exercise and weight loss, diverse psychological, sociological and logistical factors can make it difficult for some individuals with T2DM to initiate, or adhere to, these lifestyle interventions. Alternative approaches to treatment are therefore required. The purpose of this research project is to investigate whether 10-days of overnight exposure to moderate hypoxia is effective at improving blood glucose control in individuals with T2DM and to provide insight into the physiological mechanisms responsible for any beneficial effects.
Background: More people are at the risk of chronic disease as the prevalence of obesity increases. It is therefore essential to find ways of helping consumers to make a lower calorie food choice. Current evidence indicates that current food labelling is changing food choices and consumption, but it is of limited effectiveness. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of physical activity calorie equivalent (PACE) food labelling on food selection and consumption using a randomised experimental design in pop-up café. Method: This study as a randomised controlled experimental trial (RCT) was conducted in a research kitchen at Loughborough University. Participants were blinded to the exact purpose of the study and randomised to either exposure to PACE labelling plus calorie food labelling or calorie labelling only and asked to select food/drinks for their consumption, in the pop-up café up to a maximum value cost of £10. The study outcomes were the amount of money spent, the number of calories selected, and the amount of food consumed after exposure to the two different types of food labels.
Poor health, and its treatment, has impact beyond the healthcare system into wider society. A person's productivity, taxable earnings, benefit payments and community contribution may all be adversely affected by poor health. Family members living with or caring for a patient may suffer equally, or sometimes more than the patient themselves, but this familial burden has gone largely unrecognised by healthcare systems. The Family-Reported Outcome Measure (FROM-16) is the first generic questionnaire designed to measure the impact of any chronic disease on the quality of life of family members or partners of patients with a health condition. Advance Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) are a novel & ground-breaking therapeutic approach for curative treatment of disease and/or injury where conventional treatments have been ineffective. Such disease/injury generally has an extremely high impact on the patient's quality of life, and also the quality of life of the patient's family, in particular those family members who take on the role of 'informal carer'. ATMPs usually have very high costs and this can limit their usage, especially in the context of low prevalence disease and publicly-funded healthcare systems, where healthcare providers may be reluctant to take on the cost burden of the ATMP therapy. As a result, there is a particular focus on the 'value' of ATMPs. An important component of value is 'Societal Value', where a treatment leads to societal contributions, and considering Societal Value may justify the high cost of ATMPs despite the relatively few patients cured. In this study, we will validate the FROM-16 for use as one measure of the Societal Value of very high cost, potentially curative treatments such as ATMPs.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the outcomes of the preloaded stent-graft design (PLD) in the routine treatment of para-renal and thoraco-abdominal aneurysms. Results and postoperative events are reported in accordance with the current reporting standards for endovascular aortic repair prepared and revised by the Ad Hoc Committee for Standardized Reporting Practices in Vascular Surgery of The Society for Vascular Surgery/American Association for Vascular Surgery. The Registry will include approximately 300 patients treated from January 2015 to May 2021 (retrospective arm) and June 2021 to June 2023 (perspective arm) for the routine treatment of para-renal and thoraco-abdominal aneurysms. To reach 300 patients, the enrollments can be extended until June 2026.
There is currently no effective intervention for type 1 diabetes and eating disorders. The main objective of STEADY Stage 2 is to test the feasibility of the newly developed STEADY intervention. STEADY was co-designed by using Experience Based Co-Design methodology and other qualitative methods (focus groups, interviews). These findings informed the development of a T1DM cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) manual. The intervention will now be tested in a feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) in adults with type 1 diabetes and eating disorders and compared with usual clinical care. If STEADY is feasible, this may provide an effective intervention for this population. This study will take place at King's College London. Participants will remain in the study for 6 months, with a 12-month extended observation period. The study is expected to end in February 2023.
The investigators want to understand the feasibility and acceptability of implementing COMPASS: Online Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in routine NHS care for individuals with diabetes. People with type 1 or type 2 diabetes with co-morbid psychological distress will be invited to take part in a pre-post implementation study of COMPASS: Online CBT for managing depression and anxiety in context of Long-Term conditions (LTCs). Patients with diabetes who are also experiencing depression and/or anxiety and/or diabetes specific distress will be recruited from: Improving Access to Psychological therapies (IAPT) services or clinics within Guys and St Thomas National Health Service (NHS) trust (GSTT) in London, United Kingdom (UK).
This is a modular dose confirmation and expansion study. The core study design is to assess the efficacy of AZD4573, administered as monotherapy or combination therapy, to participants with either r/r PTCL or r/r cHL and to confirm the safety profiles and PK in these populations. Module 1 of this study will evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of AZD4573 monotherapy in participants with r/r PTCL or r/r cHL. If AZD4573 monotherapy is found to have promising anti-tumour efficacy in Module 1, an AZD4573 monotherapy Phase II expansion may be added via a substantial protocol amendment.

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of different treatment modalities on clinical outcome of patients suffering from acute lower limb ischemia (ALI). Depending on clinical presentation, anatomical as well as technical considerations, different treatment options are available for revascularisation of affected limbs. Using an observational, international, multicentric study design (min. patient number of 500), the defined primary endpoint of the study, amputation-free survival 90 days after the diagnosis of ALI, will be evaluated.
