Background. Although a healthy urinary system is a vital aspect in every woman's life, bladder management is an aspect of maternity care, which is, or perceived as, being poorly managed by health care professionals. Furthermore, although the relationship between childbirth and bladder dysfunction is an incontestable fact very well documented in the medical literature, women's experiences of bladder care have not been recognized by the evidence, and therefore, no research has been developed to address this topic. This fact implies a limited level of awareness and degree of implication from women in this matter. Research question. What are women's experiences, perceptions and knowledge of bladder care during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period? Aim. To explore women's experiences of bladder care during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period. Design. Exploratory, descriptive research study. Population. Women who have given birth to a singleton, live, term baby between two weeks and six months prior the study, and who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Methods. In-depth semi-structured interviews. Sample. A purposive sample of eight to sixteen women, with a heterogeneous representation of the different modes of birth, will be sought. Recruitment. Postnatal midwives will act as gatekeepers identifying potential participants and providing information packs. Other recruitment resources will include posters and a study website, which will be advertised at local maternity groups. Data collection. Semi-structure interviews to gain a deep understanding of women's experiences of maternity bladder care. Interviews will last between thirty minutes to a couple of hours and they will be digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data Analysis. Framework analysis assisted by memoing technique. Ethical considerations. Ethical approval from the Sponsor and the Health Research Authority will be sought.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and immunogenicity of novel routes of administration of the candidate malaria vaccines ChAd63 encoding ME-TRAP and MVA encoding ME-TRAP. 30-33 Healthy adult volunteers will be recruited in Oxford. All vaccinations will be administered intravenously or subcutaneously. Each volunteer will receive a single vaccination of ChAd63 ME-TRAP or MVA ME-TRAP at different doses depending on the group.
Physical activity has many potential mood enhancing benefits, and may be as effective as anti-depressants and psychological therapies for treating depression and low mood. However, getting people with depression to become more active is challenging. Behavioural Activation (BA) is an evidenced based psychotherapeutic treatment that focuses on increasing exposure to positive environmental stimuli which could provide an effective delivery mechanism for increasing physical activity for people who are more sedentary than the general population. The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of delivering a theory informed online intervention combining physical activity and BA (eMotion) to people with depression, and to examine its effects on depressive symptoms and physical activity.
This study aims to assess the feasibility of capturing data on exhaled breath compounds during an acute asthma exacerbation. In addition to assessing the feasibility of such a study the investigators will collect data on exploratory outcomes including the ability of breath biomarkers to distinguish between controlled and exacerbated states and their ability to differentiate between triggers of exacerbation.

In current, clinical ophthalmology, a range of specialised testing allows comprehensive evaluation of ocular health. These tests have typically evolved over many years to ensure their clinical validity. For example, the assessment of visual acuity has traditionally been measured with Snellen letter charts from a distance of six metres (20 feet), leading to the phrase "20/20 vision". Despite this, the limitations of Snellen testing are well established and more sophisticated testing is now available (e.g., logMAR testing using ETDRS (Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study) charts). Many other diagnostic tests have undergone similar cycles of refinement, often over extended time periods. Therefore, it should be incumbent on any new device to undergo detailed evaluation of its validity (how its measurements agree with other testing) and its repeatability (the variability when a further measurement is obtained in short time period, by the same operator and under the same conditions). Binocular OCT extends the application of OCT devices beyond that of simple, cross- sectional imaging to a diverse array of diagnostic tests. The binocular design also removes the need for additional personnel to perform testing (i.e., the device can be self-operated in an automated manner), and allows for novel testing to be performed that is not possible with monocular imaging. In particular, binocular OCT devices have the potential to perform automated, quantitative pupillary measurements - an entirely novel application for this imaging modality. This study will assess the validity and repeatability of pupil measurements using binocular OCT.
